Does Fire Cider contain alcohol?
No, it does not. It does however, mix well with alcohol if that's your style!
Does Fire Cider contain GMO ingredients?
Absolutely not! Fire Cider is made with 100% Certified Organic vinegar, fruits and vegetables. The only non-Organic ingredient is the honey, because domestic Certified Organic honey is next to impossible to source. They use wonderful raw honey from the hard working people (and bees!) of Merrimack Valley Apiaries. Their organic certifier is Bay State Organics.
This bottle tastes different than the last one, did you change your recipe?
No! Every batch tastes a little bit different for a few reasons. The biggest cause of flavor differences is seasonal variation in the fresh fruits and roots used. The citrus can be juicer or sweeter, the ginger and horseradish spicier or mellower, the honey mild or strongly flavored, etc... Another cause of changing flavor is how long the Fire Cider has been in the bottle. When it's freshly bottled it tends to taste more citrus/ginger dominant, when it has mellowed for a few months it tends to be more onion/garlic/spice dominant. In short, every bottle is a unique snowflake of burning vinegar-y flavor.
Is Fire Cider gluten free?
Yes, all of the ingredients used are whole, raw, gluten free foods that they process themselves. However, if you are extremely sensitive, be aware that they make Fire Cider in a mixed use facility.
How much should I take?
For a daily dose it is recommended about ½ to 1 Tablespoon. You can just take a small sip from the bottle. If you feel under the weather you can take that same dose every 3 hours. You can take Fire Cider any time of day; just keep in mind that it does perk you up!
What is the shelf life of Fire Cider?
According to the FDA, the ‘best by date’ is 18 months from bottling. They put a batch code sticker on the bottom or side of every bottle to tell you when the bottle turns 18 months old.
Does Fire Cider contain sugar?
Yes, there are 3 grams of sugar from the raw honey per one tablespoon serving.
How should I store Fire Cider?
In an abundance of caution, the FDA feels that you should refrigerate Fire Cider after opening. The creators don't refrigerate theirs, but they admit to living on the edge.
About Fire Cider
Dana St. Pierre began making early versions of Fire Cider in the 1990's to support his immune system and respiratory health. Through the years, he tinkered with what started as his grandmother’s ‘recipe’ of horseradish and honey, to make it both potent and palatable. Over a dozen years, Dana added a few new twists to the traditional New England tonic base of apple cider vinegar and honey. In 2010, Dana and his wife, Amy Huebner, a holistic health coach, were invited to sell their Fire Cider at the Handmade Holiday Festival in Pittsfield, MA. So many of the people who sampled Fire Cider bought some and they soon sold out. Seeing people’s need for their spicy tonic, they started the company to bring Fire Cider to everyone willing to try some.
Brian Huebner, Amy's brother and a comic artist, shared his talent by creating the labels for Fire Cider, complete with an original comic character proudly representing Fire Cider on every bottle. Amy, Brian and Dana started making Fire Cider in a church kitchen in their neighborhood and were running the business out of their apartment for the first few years. Now they make Fire Cider at the Franklin County CDC in their newly updated kitchen facility. They even get to share some really cool kitchen equipment with the folks who make Katalyst Kombucha, another CDC tenant.
