All of Better Life’s cleaning agents come from plants. Their products are cruelty-free, natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, safe for waterways and marine life, and packaged in recyclable containers, and their primary manufacturing facility is largely powered by solar energy.
Better Life is not just safe for the planet. It's safe for people, pets, and surfaces, too. This isn’t true for all “environmentally friendly” products. Products and ingredients that biodegrade aren’t always safe for humans and their animal companions. Take poison ivy for example, which is natural and biodegradable. You wouldn’t bring it into your home or put it into contact with your skin. Many of these cleaners also incorporate aggressive solvents (like alcohol) that are technically “plant-based,” but which can damage high-end surfaces. Better Life doesn't like those ingredients, and they don’t include them!
Better Life only uses essential oils in the scented products. They’re naturally derived, they smell wonderful, and they’re a healthy, responsible replacement for synthetic fragrances. Many household cleaning products that claim to use essential oils are really using blends made with synthetic perfumes and a minimal amount of natural botanical extracts. Better Life's scents are always 100% plant-derived.
Better Life provides full ingredient lists on their products, and they always will. Household cleaning product manufacturers are not required to list ingredients on their packaging. It’s true! This makes it hard for people to understand and decide which products are safest for their homes. Better Life's lists are always complete, and always easy to find. They only make exceptions for their sample-sized bottles, where label space is limited. Have no fear – you can always find ingredient lists on their website.
Vs. Homemade Cleaners
Better Life products have been tested and approved for performance, safety, surface compatibility, and stability. They understand why many people feel that homemade cleaners are the best choice for their families. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to perform the necessary performance and safety testing on these products. Ineffective formulas will cause you to work harder with fewer results. Many of these homemade formulas are also unstable, causing them to quickly spoil or grow bacteria, yeasts and mold.
They’ve made a conscious decision to keep harsh chemicals out of their products. They invest in their products’ cleaning agents – not “killing agents.” Did you know that any cleaning product with a disinfecting claim is classified as a pesticide by the EPA? These chemicals pose a serious risk to us, our children and pets every time we use them. Besides, unless you follow the directions perfectly by letting pesticides sit on your surfaces for the directed amount of time – sometimes ten minutes! – you’re dumping money (and nasty chemicals) down the drain. There’s a better way!
Better Life products are more effective than traditional cleaners, and are made without Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). That means you get more out of the product that’s in the bottle – and lose less of it while you’re dispensing it. VOCs, such as alcohol, are prevalent in household cleaning products. They actually vaporize when they’re dispensed from the product. This isn’t just a health concern – it means that your product is literally disappearing into thin air as you use it. Not with Better Life!
Cleaner by Nature
Clean shouldn’t sting. It doesn’t need neon dyes, and it shouldn’t have to wear perfume. Better Life develops all of their products in-house to ensure they’re creating the safest, best performing products, without compromise. Amazing things happen when you take the toxins out of the household cleaners.
Ingredients Better Live Never Uses & Possible Concerns:
Dyes have been linked to disease, can be toxic to animals, & is slow to biodegrade.
Alcohol is a respiratory & skin irritant, is flammable, & may damage surfaces.
Synthetic Fragrances are a central nervous system depressant, plus respiratory & skin irritant. They are toxic & slow to biodegrade.
Sulfates and/or Sulfanates are irritating to skin & eyes and may contain 1,4-Dioxane, a possible carcinogen.
Ethoxylates are petroleum-based cleaning agents which may contain 1.4-Dioxane, a possible carcinogen. They may pose a threat to marine life, and are linked to disease and sterility.
Petrochemical Solvents are respiratory & skin irritants. They are toxic and may damage surfaces.
Green Like You've Never Seen
Better Life was created by two dads (and lifelong friends) who wanted to show the world that safety and performance can play nice together. Better Life cleaners can do more than clear your conscience. One afternoon in 2008, lifelong friends Tim Barklage and Kevin Tibbs were watching their kiddos crawl across the floor. As their toddlers’ tiny hands picked up dust, dirt, and potentially dangerous cleaning residue, the concerned dads had a classic lightbulb moment. What if cleaning products could cut through grease, grime, and dirt without compromising on safety?
Tim, always the optimist, challenged Kevin, an innovative formulation chemist, to create a new line of plant-derived, non-toxic, environmentally friendly cleaners that would defy expectations for safety and performance. Kevin hopped right into the lab, and Better Life was born. Today, Better Life’s products continue to challenge the way people think about natural cleaning – with more plant power, fewer warning labels, and formulas that are always safe for the mess makers (not the mess).
As Seen on Shark Tank
Six weeks of preparation. 150 hours spent watching old episodes. A social media “war room” full of laptops, nervous employees, and a lot of pizza. They were prepared for their November 1, 2013 appearance on ABC’s Shark Tank. And it was definitely worth it. (No spoilers!)
