Frequently Asked Questions

Why "Metropolis"?
Metropolis Soap Co. comes from a couple of different places. It's an homage to one of their favorite movies, Metropolis, and it's also a homage to their favorite city: New York!

How long does a bar of soap last?
Generally speaking, their soaps last just as long as store bought brands! There are some ways to keep it lasting longer than normal:

  • Always use a soap dish so that air can circulate around the soap and keep it dry
  • Don't allow the soap to sit in water for long periods of time

Does Metropolis Soap Co. use fragrance oils or essential oils?
All of their skincare products are made with essential oils and absolutes only. They don't use  synthetic fragrances.

How does Metropolis Soap Co. color their soaps?
Their soaps are colored with herbs and herb-infused oils.

Are all of Metropolis' products vegan? How vegan?
All of their products are vegan-friendly. They're safe for the most hardcore of vegans: they use no beeswax, honey, or other animal by-products.

Do their products "go bad"?
On the rare occasion that you've had a product of theirs longer than 2 years and haven't used it all up (the shame!) they'd suggest tossing it and getting a new one.

Are Metropolis Soap Co. products safe for all over the body?
Generally speaking yes they are safe for the body and face. However, you may have allergies to a particular ingredient so please try the product on a small patch of skin first. If any redness or irritation occurs don't use the product.

What are Metropolis Soap co.'s ethics?
They believe animals are awesome and should not be affected by them selling their products to you. Therefore they do not test on animals and they make a conscious effort to avoid leaving an imprint on the planet. They do not use Palm Oil specifically because of the decimation it causes to the rainforests and to orangutan habitats. They use recycled packaging materials when shipping items to you when possible.

What makes Metropolis "green"?

  • They only use 100% Post Consumer Waste paper for their labels
  • All products are vegan
  • All ingredients are from sustainable and renewable resources
  • All product packaging is recyclable

About Metropolis Soap Co.
Many people like to ask about how Metropolis came to be, so owner, Megan Brame-Finkelstein, would like you to have some background on Ronnie.

Megan's cousin, Ronnie, is the youngest of 3 and was born in 1994 with pretty serious food allergies. He was always very skinny and tiny, though he made up for it with personality (once he got to know you). It was thanks to him that their family became educated on food: before that they would just eat anything and not think twice about it, but Ronnie taught them to pay attention and recognize ingredients: what was harmful, what could be eaten safely, and how both of those categories affected their bodies.

Megan had always been a lover of skincare products and cosmetics, so it was only a matter of time before label reading became a normalcy for her when it came to beauty products. What was Titanium Dioxide, what was cornstarch doing in her powder, how did Vitamin E really contribute to the product she was buying? Megan began to seek out products with specific ingredients, and when she couldn’t find what she was looking for in ONE product, she started to research making her own. And after years of testing, playing, learning, failing, and perfecting, Metropolis Soap Company was launched.

And it was all thanks to one little guy who spawned a food movement in his family.

Not thrilled. Great ingredients but the smell tells me it's been sitting on the shelf too long. It's not bad enough to throw away, but I bought more than one so I'm using them first. I would not buy again. I hope the other scents in this brand are better.
