Frequently Asked Questions
Do their nut butters have to be refrigerated?
That is a great question. The answer? It's up to you! Nut butters technically do not need to be refrigerated. The reason it is often recommended is to prevent oil separation. They have a lot of customers who prefer their nut butters refrigerated, especially after they have been sent in the mail. If you live somewhere where it is hot, the nut butters can arrive thinner than you would like. Putting them in the fridge and giving them a good stir produces a thicker texture and stronger flavor. Do what feels right to you and your nut butter spreading needs.

What is the shelf life on their nut butters?
Their peanut butter is good for a year sealed on shelf. Once opened, they recommend eating within 3 months of being opened if stored on the shelf or within 6 months if kept in the fridge.

Where did their chocolate espresso peanut butter (Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed flavor?
They will no longer be making their Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed flavor. When they were experimenting with almond butters, they decided that the coffee flavor was even better with almonds! So for those of you who were loyal Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed fans, they encourage you to try their new Vanilla Espresso Almond Butter.

Does their nut butter have sugar in it?
They prefer to use less processed versions of sugar in their nuts butters. In their Honey Pretzel Peanut Butter, they use high quality clover honey as a sweetener, while their other four flavors are sweetened only with agave nectar. For more info on these ingredients, check out their ingredients page!

What's the most delicious way to eat their nut butters?
They're so glad you asked! They have tons of ideas. They suggest spreading it on your morning toast or bagel, stirring it into a hot bowl of oatmeal, with your fruit or celery sticks, on top of your morning pancakes/waffles, baked into brownies or cookies, as a frosting for yummy baked goods, in a smoothie, milkshake or ice cream, and their favorite…with a spoon! For recipes using their nut butters, check out their recipe page.

Are their products Dairy-Free? Vegan?
All of their products are dairy free. Besides Honey Pretzel, which has honey, all their other 5 flavors are vegan.

Are their products gluten free?
Their only flavor that contains an ingredient with gluten is their Honey Pretzel, which has bits of pretzels swirled into it! That being said, their facility is not gluten free certified, so they do not recommend consuming their nut butters if you are acutely allergic to gluten

WILD FLAVORS: Their wild flavors are unique and delicious, without confusing or misleading nutrition facts. They are naturally and minimally sweetened to create flavors that please the palate, while keeping a clean nutrition profile to fuel your body and mind.

Agave nectar or syrup is a natural sweetener that has a flavor similar to honey, made from the natural juices of the agave plant. Unlike cane sugar, agave has a low-glycemic index, meaning agave does not cause a sharp spike in blood sugar levels after consumption. Another benefit to using agave is that it is generally around 1.5 times sweeter than sugar, which means they can use less and still achieve optimal sweetness.

Rich in fiber, protein, healthy fats, potassium, calcium, iron and antioxidants, almonds are said to have the most nutrients out of any other nut! These perfectly sweet and savory nuts are a healthy addition to any diet, as they help to regulate cholesterol and blood pressure, improve brain function, boost energy levels, control weight and prevent cancer. What's not to love?

The world would be a far less enjoyable place without the existence of chocolate! Deeply rooted in Aztec and Mayan culture, chocolate was first enjoyed by mixing ground cacao seeds with a variety of spices to make a frothy drink. Eventually, these cacao seeds were discovered by the Spanish conquistadors, who brought them back to Europe. Over time, new recipes and technologies were created to transform the cacao seeds into the many varieties of chocolate they love today. They are committed to using only dairy free, unsweetened dark chocolate. Dairy-free dark chocolate allows those with dairy intolerances the freedom to enjoy their nut butters as well as creating a richer flavor overall.

Prized for its bold aromatic flavor and versatility in both cooking and medicinal purpose, cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to man. Available in either stick form or as a ground powder, cinnamon comes from the inner brown bark of cinnamon trees grown primarily in Southeast Asia. Cinnamon has unique healing abilities that are rooted in three essential oils found in the bark. These oils are highly nutritious and contain anti-inflammatory properties while helping to regulate blood sugar levels, boost brain function, improve colon health, and prevent heart disease.

Coconut is the seed of a tropical palm that has been highly valued for thousands of years as both food and medicine, earning the name "The Tree of Life." Coconut is highly nutritious and offers incredible health benefits. It is rich in fiber, vitamins minerals and is a very good source of healthy saturated fat. Unlike other sources of saturated fat, coconut is a medium chain saturated fat, meaning human bodies utilize it more efficiently as it converts into energy rather than stored fat. Coconut is found to lower cholesterol and protect against heart disease while also improving digestion, reducing inflammation and increasing metabolic rate.

With flavor as rich as its history, coffee is one of the most universally known crops in the world today. Coffee beans come from the berries of coffee plants that are grown in tropical regions close to the equator. Coffee is highly prized for its distinctive characteristics such as flavor, caffeine content, acidity and body, which reflect the growing region. Coffee is not only beneficial as an energy booster, it can also provide surprisingly positive health benefits. The coffee bean is filled with anti-cancer properties and antioxidants that are thought to protect against common cancers, it can lower blood sugar, fight type 2 diabetes, and even regulate high blood pressure. They use coffee beans in their Vanilla Espresso almond butter.

Honey is known as a miracle food for many reasons! Number one - it never goes bad. Number two - it is the only food eaten by man that is produced by insects. Number three - honey is the only food that is known to contain all substances necessary to sustain life: enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and water. That being said, not all honey is created equally. Today, there are many commercially produced honeys that are overly treated and filtered with improper balances in sugar and water. This industrial processing causes honey to lose its incredible health benefits. High quality minimally processed honey, like they use in their peanut butter, keeps all the nutrition! Honey is a natural energy booster, and its antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties boost immunity and improve digestion. Also, honey has been used throughout history as a natural home remedy to cure everything from burns to arthritis pain.

Said to be first cultivated in the valleys of Peru, the peanut is not actually a nut, but rather a part of the legume, or bean, family. Peanuts have also been known as earth nuts or ground nuts because after its flower has been pollinated, the weight of the plant bends it until it touches the ground. Further growth pushes it underground where the fruit develops into a pod, which they know as the peanut! Peanuts are rich in many nutrients, providing over 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients, including niacin, folate, fiber, magnesium and vitamin E. Peanuts are naturally rich in antioxidants, free of trans-fat and sodium, and they contain about 25% more protein then any other nut!

These crunchy, salty sticks that are known today as a classic American snack have their origins in the state of Pennsylvania. Many stories have been told about the origin of the hard pretzel. But the most commonly told version concerns an apprentice baker who fell asleep while baking soft pretzels. Thinking the pretzels had not been baked long enough, he turned the oven temperature higher and cooked them twice as long as intended. One of the best mistakes in history! Pretzels are free of trans fat and have fewer calories then many products in the snack aisle. They only use the right amount of pretzels to get all the crunchy goodness without adding too many extra calories! Their motto: everything can be enjoyed in moderation!

These plump juicy little dried fruits hold a special place in their heart. They were the first ingredients that they added after making their first batch of homemade peanut butter in their college apartment. They are also the reason Sneaky Cinnamon exists today! Raisins, which of course are dried grapes, are produced and enjoyed all over the world. They are highly versatile, you can enjoy them raw, or you can cook and bake them in your favorite recipes. Raisins are high in antioxidants, provide a high dose of fiber, and are rich in natural sugars for a healthy energy boost! These super fruits have an incredible list of other health benefits: they support healthy digestion, improve eyesight, fight bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease, and much more.

As one of the first plants to ever be cultivated in the United States, the sunflower is deeply rooted in people's agriculture and diet. Their seeds have been cultivated for thousands of years and were part of the Native American diet long before staple crops like corn, squash and beans. This plant loves the sun so much, it retains all of the sun's nutrients and even takes its appearance! They have an incredible amount of Vitamin E which aids in neutralizing free radicals, magnesium which supports bone health, and selenium which is strongly correlated with cancer prevention.

Pure vanilla is the second most popular spice in the world next to saffron, and for good reason. With its unique sweet n' spicy yet delicate flavor, vanilla is an ingredient unlike any other! Vanilla comes from the fruit of a thick green orchid vine that grows wild on the edge of rainforests found primarily in Mexico and Madagascar. The long green pods are picked before they're ripe, and undergo a fermentation process that lasts up to 6 months. The result: rich, brown, aromatic vanilla beans! They use vanilla in the form of powder, which is produced by grinding whole dried vanilla beans into a powdery substance. Vanilla adds rich flavor and nutrients to any food. It contains B vitamins that help in enzyme creation, nervous system function, and body metabolism regulation. It also contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. So much power inside that little pod!

Known for their jewel toned hue and tangy flavor; dried cranberries are the 2nd most popular dried fruit after raisins. The antioxidants and Vitamin E in dried cranberries help reduce inflammation, cutting the risk of chronic health problems, such as heart disease and cancer. A serving of dried cranberries also contains iron, potassium, and vitamin C.

These deliciously crunchy and nutty little seeds are one of the first seeds known to man! Sesame seeds are rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acid oleic acid, which lowers LDL ("bad cholesterol") and increases HDL ("good cholesterol") in the blood. Sesame seeds are also rich in protein and several essential vitamins and minerals such as B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc.

About Wild Friends
Wild Friends began by happy accident one dreary Sunday at the University of Oregon. The two of them were in their college apartment, scraping the bottom of yet another jar of peanut butter. With no more peanut butter and a surplus of celery, they were faced with a familiar conundrum. However, neither of us wanted to ride a bike out in the pouring rain to buy more.

Luckily, they had a bag of raw peanuts, a brand new food processor, and two squirrelly little minds. It didn't take long before they had created their first batch of homemade peanut butter. However, as creative chefs, they were not content with leaving their freshly made peanut butter to be just plain or crunchy. So they began adding every conceivable ingredient from their pantry. They sprinkled in cinnamon, raisins, chocolate chips, coffee, coconut...the list went on and on.

After extensive sampling, they decided their product was simply too good to keep to theirselves, so they brought a few jars over to their friends. They loved it, and encouraged us to make a website to sell their tasty creations.
