Feature Ingredient: Aloe Vera
The skin absorbs aloe vera up to four times faster than water. So it's good news that aloe vera leaf juice (not water) is the No. 1 ingredient in all Nourish Organic hand and body washes. Loaded with amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, aloe is ultra-moisturizing and nourishing.
They're Better For You
What goes on your skin ultimately gets absorbed into your system. That's why Nourish believes that you shouldn't put anything on your body that you wouldn't put into your mouth, and for us that means food-grade, 100% USDA-certified organic ingredients and nothing more. That said, they are proud to have been the first company in the world to develop USDA-certified organic beauty products that are made with only nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, and plant extracts.
No parabens. No phthalates. No sulfates, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes or silicones. No propylene glycol, mineral oils, synthetic dyes, triclosan, EDTA or aluminum. And absolutely no artificial fragrances or preservatives. Period.
They're Better For The Earth
Because Nourish's ingredients support organic agriculture and are sourced from organic farmers, you can rest assured that no pesticides or herbicides are being used, and that sound land stewardship is always taking place.
And They're Only The Beginning
Nourish's commitment to the planet starts with their use of 100% organic ingredients, and continues throughout every facet of their business. All of their packaging is made with at least 25% post-consumer recycled content. All of their products are cruelty free and never tested on animals. Nearly all of their products are vegan (excluding those that contain beeswax), and their manufacturing facility uses as much renewable energy as possible, even going so far as to store all of their products in a local underground warehouse that uses the earth's natural ambient temperature and humidity to preserve and protect.
Nourish's Promises Are Big, But Their Footprint Is Small
They firmly believe that the earth, which takes such good care of us, deserves to be treated well in return. They pride themselves in being good stewards of the environment and in doing everything they can—both as a company and as individuals—to support this beautiful planet on which they are privileged to live.
- They buy recycled content and recyclable packaging materials. In fact, all of their packaging is made with at least 25% post-consumer recycled content.
- They recycle all of their cardboard.
- They reuse and repurpose all materials when and where appropriate.
- All packaging, surplus pallets and drums that are not reused by their company are recycled to other companies.
Nourish Saves Energy
- They utilize an underground warehouse and distribution center (adapted from an old mine) to store products and office equipment. Because a constant ambient temperature is maintained, no heating or cooling energies are necessary.
- They provide continuous employee training on how to conserve energy.
- Nearly 70% of their employees carpool, walk, bicycle, or take public transportation to work.
- Their main plant has the highest rating of insulation value.
- They continuously investigate the use of new and more energy-efficient lighting, implementing change whenever beneficial.\
- They use local suppliers whenever possible in order to conserve gas and oil.
- They are currently exploring alternative energy sources, including solar, geothermal, and wind for their main plant.
Nourish Respects The Earth
- They use only cleaning and sanitizing materials/methods, as well as pest control materials/methods that meet the USDA National Organic Program requirements, and that are chemical free.
- They use no pesticides in their landscaping or grassy areas.
The Nourish Organic Story
When they founded Nourish more than a decade ago, the words "organic" and "beauty" were never found together. They were concerned by numerous studies and research that shed light on the hazardous chemicals in existing beauty products, and by the lack of regulations in the personal care industry. Believing that what you put on your body is every bit as important as what you put in it, they became "organic beauty pioneers," determined to create the very first line of chemical-free, environmentally friendly skincare products.
They were the first beauty company to ever work with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to create a collection of products so pure they could be certified organic under the same strict standards the government uses to certify food. And in 2003, they launched Nourish—the world's first USDA-certified organic skincare collection.
Then, in 2012, they re-introduced the Nourish brand with an even more exciting line up of fabulous USDA certified organic products that you are sure to enjoy.
Good For You, Good For The Earth
Today, from their headquarters in the rolling hills of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, they create and produce healthy, concern-free, eco-friendly skin care products that really work (and that are as pure and clean as the organic fruits and vegetables you find at your local market).
In addition to being completely natural and organic, their products are also cruelty-free, gluten-free, and mostly vegan. They display all of the following badges with pride on all of their packaging, so you can be sure that no product you buy is kinder to your skin, and to the earth and the animals with which they share it.
Did you know that the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) organic seal and certification is THE gold standard in organic skincare? This is the only seal that ensures that skincare products are 95-100% organic, up to the standard of food rulings. That means their USDA-certified Nourish products are as pure and clean as the organic fruit you buy in your local supermarket. The USDA does not differentiate between food or beauty products when inspecting products, so any product bearing its seal (whether food or skincare) must be made of 95-100% ingredients that were organically farmed with no pesticides or herbicides. The remaining 5% of contents are drawn from a small, select number of gentle ingredients (such as purified water) that are not organically grown, but which pose no risk to your health or the environment.
The reason it is so important to look for the USDA seal on your beauty products is because the beauty industry is not regulated by the government or FDA. That means that companies can write “organic” or “natural” on their beauty or skincare products, even if only 5% of the ingredients are really natural or organic and the rest contain potentially harmful chemicals like parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals or EDTA. Without the USDA seal on your beauty product, no government agency is ensuring its safety and purity.
Recently, some beauty companies took a step forward and began using a seal on their products called NSF. The NSF seal, while a step in the direction, only ensures that skincare products are 70% organic, while the remaining 30% can still contain synthetic ingredients like waxes. They applaud companies that have moved in this direction, but Nourish maintains their commitment to 95-100% organic beauty products which require the USDA inspection, certification and seal. You can always rest assured that any Nourish product you buy will be the purest, cleanest and gentlest product available in the market, as they were the 1st beauty company in the world to receive 100% USDA-organic certification from the government, and they will only produce USDA-organic products in the future.
An internationally recognized symbol of organic integrity, Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) provides a system that combines strict production standards, on-site inspections, and legally binding contracts to protect the producers and buyers of organic products.
The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics' (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program administers a cruelty-free standard and the internationally recognized Leaping Bunny Logo for companies producing cosmetic, personal care, and household products. The Leaping Bunny program provides the best assurance that no new animal testing is used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or suppliers.
All of their packaging is made with at least 25% post-consumer recycled content, and everything is recyclable. On a day-to-day basis, they make a conscious effort to recycle, re-use, and re-think the use of resources needed to produce the Nourish products.
The "gluten-free" logo proves a company's commitment to a quality, gluten-free product for celiac-and gluten-sensitive individuals.
The "vegan" logo identifies products that do not contain animal products or byproducts and that have not been tested on animals
