Premama Essentials is a taste-free, over-the-counter prenatal/postnatal multivitamin dietary supplement powder. Premama Essentials is a vegetarian, light green powder mix packaged in a single-dose stick.
Quatrefolic is an all-natural folate derivative, (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt. Premama Essentials includes Quatrefolic folate because up to 50% of women have difficulty converting folic acid into active folate. This is important since diets healthy in folic acid and folate have been proven to help reduce your risk of having a child with a brain or spinal birth defect. Quatrefolic does not need further metabolism and can penetrate cells as is. This form of active folate is 10x more absorbable than folic acid, has long lasting stability, high water solubility, improved bioavailability (easy absorption), and well-established safety.
Ferrochel ferrous bisglycinate chelate is a unique iron that has been coupled with amino acids to increase tolerability and absorption. Iron is essential during pregnancy by maintaining healthy red blood cell levels and oxygen flow to your unborn infant. Unlike Ferrochel, basic elemental irons found in most prenatal vitamins are not readily absorbed, resulting in common side effects such as constipation and nausea. Studies show Ferrochel is safe, does not react with other nutrients and demonstrate high levels of absorbability - helping expectant women avoid iron-related constipation.
Vitamin B6 is naturally found in whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables, and poultry. Studies show that intake of Vitamin B6 can ease pregnancy- related nausea and vomiting. Premama Essentials contains 30 mg or 1154% Daily Value of Vitamin B6 - the highest of any over-the-counter prenatal supplement - to help expectant moms soothe discomforts associated with morning sickness. Additional benefits of Vitamin B6 consumption include healthy baby development and maintaining normal metabolic levels during pregnancy.
Premama Questions & Answers
When should I begin taking Premama?
Premama is most effective when taken:
- While trying to conceive
- During pregnancy
- While breastfeeding
Some doctors and organizations, such as the March of Dimes, suggest all women between the ages of 15-50 take prenatal supplements, like Premama, every day, as about 50% of all pregnancies are unplanned.
Is Premama FDA approved?
Premama and many other prenatal supplements are over-the-counter drugs. They fall under the 'supplement' category and do not require FDA approval. Facilities at which Premama is produced and packaged are FDA-approved for the nutrients they handle, their cleanliness and their conduct. They are also USP Verified.
Where is Premama Made?
Premama is produced un USP (United States Pharmacopeia) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved facilities based in the United States. Premama uses only the highest quality, natural ingredients.
What should I mix Premama with?
Premama tastes best with juice, fruit flavored beverages, iced tea and milk. While fine with water, there may be a hint of ginger. Premama should not be mixed with soda or hot beverages. Premama's ingredients are encapsulated to mask the flavors of the nutrients. Over time this encapsulation breaks down and the nutrients' tastes are exposed. This may happen more quickly in some drinks compared to others. However, this does not have a negative side effect on the vitamins themselves nor on the body's absorption of the vitamins. There may be a mild effect on taste.
This is why they strongly recommend adding Premama to your favorite juice, milk, or iced tea and consuming it within 5 minutes after mixing. Flavored versions of Premama are now in development.
In October 2010, Premama Vitamin Drink started out as a socially-responsible initiative at Brown University. Given their passion for and experience in health, sports, and visits to local hospitals, their mission was to address problems in the area of nutrition. Little did they know their chat with an expectant mom at a local Whole Foods would lead them to pursue the path of prenatal nutrition: that large “horse-like” prenatal pills can be difficult to swallow and often carry side-effects of nausea and constipation. What if they could develop a unique product with doctor-recommended prenatal vitamins and minerals that’s healthy, convenient, and comfortable for moms to drink? In that instant, Premama was born. After interviewing their moms, aunts, cousins, distant relatives, family friends, and over a hundred expectant mothers, they began to realize how real the discomforts of taking prenatal pills were. While a majority of the women were aware of prenatal vitamin health benefits, many simply stopped using them because the pills became unbearable. They learned that each year over 850,000 women in the United States suffer from pregnancy complications and birth defects—largely due to nutritional deficiency.
They gathered a team of obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs), nutritionists, pharmacists and health business experts and immediately delved into product development. They promised a prenatal nutritional beverage that was complete, all-natural, and easy-to-drink. With friends, family and numerous moms-to-be serving as samplers of Premama, they refined their product until everyone reached a consensus on nutritional effectiveness and taste. Their next step was to launch their company to market a flavorless Premama to OB/GYNs across the United States. After winning the 2011 Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, meeting with countless doctors, interviewing expectant moms, and receiving extremely positive feedback on their drink, they are proud to finally present Premama to market. Pregnancy, they believe, should be as healthy, wholesome and comfortable as possible. Now moms and moms-to-be can feel good knowing Premama provides all the key prenatal nutrients for their babies and themselves—without the pain of the pill. At Premama, passion for your well-being is their motivation behind everything they do. They are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a positive part in one of the most important moments of your life.
