Minami Nutrition MorEPA Platinum Ultimate Once Daily Omega-3 + D3 Orange Flavor - 60 Softgels

Minami Nutrition MorEPA Platinum Ultimate Once Daily Omega-3 + D3 Orange Flavor is an ultra premium Omega-3 supplement utilizing supercritical Co2 extraction technology that delivers on unprecedented 1,100mg of Omega-3 nutrition and 75% Daily Value of Vitamin D in a convenient, once daily serving. Minami Platinum offers a clean, orange flavor with no fishy aftertaste. Minami is committed to the advancement of scientific support for Omega 3 nutrition and has participated in 11 human clinical studies. Advance Omega-3 research suggests a high concentration of EPA, along with DHA, can support cardiovascular health, cognitive function, immune system and mood.

Let’s face it—you are busy. Life has you running 100mph. Do you really have time to take 3, 4 or even 5 fish oil capsules a day to get the Omega-3 nutrition you need for optimal health? Now, you don’t have to—thanks to Minami MorEPA Platinum—the Ultimate Once Daily Omega-3 solution.

Cold Processed—Smart Choice
Supercritical CO2 extraction utilizes 400% less heat than the leading brands—the typical process can expose heat-sensitive oils to temperatures as high as 400° F. Liquid CO2, an organic compound, takes the place of typically-used harsh chemical solvents. Minami also offers one of the highest concentrated Omega-3 fish oils on the market, which means more Omega-3 nutrition, no fillers and fewer softgels to take—now that is smart.

The Minami Five
Minami Nutrition sets itself apart from other fish oils based on the Minami Five—the five reasons you should choose Minami Nutrition. By using a patented, low-heat Supercritical Dual-Process CO2 technology, Minami Nutrition provides unprecedented levels of concentration, purity, sustainability and unique, custom formulations based on the latest advanced research.

5 Reasons Why You Should Choose Minami:

  1. Supercritical Difference: Minami oils utilize liquid CO2 extraction and are exposed to 400% less heat than other leading brands with no use of harsh solvents and no saturated fat as filler.
  2. Super Concentration: Minami is one of the highest concentrated Omega-3s available, which is “super convenient” because you get more Omega-3 nutrition per softgel which means fewer pills and tablespoons of oil to swallow.
  3. Unsurpassed Purity: Minami oils go through rigorous in house and third party testing and have remarkably low levels of oxidation as well as undetectable levels of dioxins, pesticides and heavy metals like mercury.
  4. Science-Based Unique Formulations: Minami uses the latest Omega-3 research to formulate specific ratios of EPA and DHA to support the body and its systems.
  5. Small Environmental Footprint: Minami obtains fish from sustainably managed waters and is the only fish oil in the world to receive EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) status—a very stringent European standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are EPA and DHA, Emotional balance with MorEPA?
MorEPA consists of two very important omega-3 fatty acids; it contains low levels of DHA and high levels of EPA. EPA and DHA are vital for the creation and renewal of cells and for the health of our cells in general. Because our whole body consists of cells, a deficiency of EPA and DHA has a negative effect on all our body parts: our bones, our blood, our organs, skin, hair and our brain.  Proverbially, a healthy mind thrives in a healthy body. It seems that EPA and DHA not only keep the body in optimal condition, they also give us a mental boost for they are the foundation of a healthy emotional balance.

What is more important: EPA or DHA?
We need EPA as well as DHA!  Research has taught us that a lack of EPA weakens the body's immune system (to fight diseases). A lack of both omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) endangers one's mental health. This manifests itself in difficulty concentrating, learning problems, poor memory... and it leads directly to an increased risk of developing depression, suicide attempts and ADHD. You should keep in mind however that low levels of EPA and DHA are not the only determining factors responsible for the creation of these disorders typical of our civilization, but they are definitely a very important factor.

EPA and DHA are essential for optimal brain functioning

DHA is an important building block of the brain
DHA is crucial for the healthy development and growth of the brain. The brain of an unborn child goes through a growth spurt during the third trimester of pregnancy, and the first three months after birth, are crucial for the subsequent brain development of the baby. Having sufficient levels of DHA is important in the structure of brain cell membranes. Later on in life, sufficient levels of DHA are necessary to keep cell membranes flexible.

EPA controls the way the brain operates
EPA is a basic material the body uses to manufacture a whole range of essential substances that regulate hormonal balance, immune system functioning, brain functioning, and blood supply to tissues. EPA is essential for the moment-by-moment regulation of brain functioning.

EPA is sometimes more effective than DHA
Several studies have indicated that EPA, not DHA, accelerates the healing process of certain conditions such as ADHA, dyslexia, depression, and memory disorders. Conditions such as autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, depression, are accompanied by inflammatory reactions. EPA, more so than DHA, helps alleviate these inflammations.

What is the best way to increase the level of EPA in my body?
Fish oil is a natural nutritional source that contains EPA and DHA Nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 are: (half) fatty fish; green leafy vegetables, and certain nuts and seeds (for instance, flax seed).

What is the recommended daily dose of EPA?
The recommended daily amount of EPA depends on the results you want to obtain to alleviate your specific problems and conditions.

Vegetarian sources only contain the basic omega-3 fatty acid, named alpha-linoleic acid. This is the basic material the body uses to produce EPA and DHA. At least, that is the accepted theory. In practice, however, the body does not convert alpha-linoleic acid to EPA and DHA very effectively; only a small amount of alpha-linoleic acid is converted to EPA and DHA. This is why a direct supply of EPA and DHA is sorely needed. (Half) fatty fish, more so than fish oil, contains low levels of alpha-linoleic acid but high levels of EPA and DHA.

  • The standard dose to maintain optimal health is 500 mg per day.
  • For people suffering from dyslexia and dyspraxia, 500 mg per day is sufficient.
  • For those suffering from ADHD, a dose with a 500mg to a 1g is recommended.

In order to take in the recommended standard dose of EPA, you should eat 230 g of fatty fish daily or 860 g of half-fatty fish. That's not a very practical solution. Because fresh fish contains high levels of PCB's, dioxins, organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals, a carefully selected fish oil supplement may be a much better.

Why is an extra 'daily intake' of EPA and DHA necessary?
The body cannot generate EPA and DHA by itself. It needs to derive the materials necessary to produce EPA and DHA from a diet that is rich in omega-3. Unfortunately, a typical Western diet lacks omega-3 fatty acids. That has not always been the case.

Historically, we have evolved from a diet that contained approximately as much omega-6 as omega-3 fatty acids. However, our current diet contains approximately twenty times more omega-6 than omega-3 fatty acids. Commonly used vegetable based oils (corn oil, sunflower oil,...) and processed foods consist almost exclusively of omega-6 fatty acids and hardly any omega-3 fatty acids.

Therefore, taking EPA and DHA supplements is a conscious choice you can make to achieve a balance between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.

The Easiest Solution?
Complement your intake of vegetarian nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 (for instance, flax seed oil) with a carefully selected daily supplement of EPA or DHA (fish oil supplement).  Only by taking a daily fish oil supplement of superior pharmacological purity, you can be assured that your body receives a sufficient and healthy (i.e. pure) dose of EPA and DHA.

What do Minami Nutrition capsules consist of ?
Minami Nutrition fish oil capsules contain EPA and DHA only from South-Pacific deep-sea fish. Only GMP-certified fish oil is used in MorEPA and all other supplements. MorEPA is an ideal supplement for those who need a maximal dose of EPA. MorEPA contains up to 95% omega-3 per one softgel. Compare to all average fish oil supplement that is on the market today.

Higher purity, less unnecessary fat
Ordinary fish oil consists of 30% (sometimes only 15%) of omega-3 fatty acids that are valuable and of 70% of undesirable fat (a portion of which is saturated fat). In other words, fish oil consists primarily of unnecessary fatty acids (fatty acids that are different from omega-3 fatty acids). These undesirable fatty acids add to your caloric intake; they do not improve your health and may even cause negative side effects. The range of products containing MorEPA consists of at least 75% and up to 95% of omega-3 fatty acids.

  • The range of MorEPA products consists of the following highly concentrated EPA supplements, reinforced with antioxidants that stabilize fatty acids:
  • MorEPA softgel capsules consist of 75% of omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 58% EPA, approximately 8% DHA, lemon flavor)
  • MorEPA-Mini softgel capsules consist of 75% omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 58% EPA, approximately 8% DHA, natural strawberry flavor)
  • PlusEPA capsules consist of minimally 95% omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 90% EPA, maximally 1% DHA, neutral taste, slower absorption rate)

When you take a daily dose of MorEPA, you avoid the unnecessary fats that are present in ordinary fish oil. Moreover, one single capsule of MorEPA gives you the daily recommended amount of EPA/DHA. Instead of taking three to five regular fish oil capsules, you only have to take one capsule of MorEPA.

Let me tell you a trick to differentiate highly concentrated fish oils of pharmacological-grade purity from regular fish oils: place the fish oil capsule in the freezer. The content of the highly concentrated fish oil capsule will not freeze.

Should children take a daily dose of MorEPA?
Definitely. In that case, you would choose for MorEPA-Mini. MorEPA-Mini is especially designed for children. MorEPA-Mini comes in smaller, easy-to-swallow capsules. Moreover, the level of EPA in MorEPA-Mini has been lowered to approximately 245 mg/capsule.

The only known type of medication that interacts with omega-3 fatty acids is anti-coagulant medication (blood thinners) because omega-3 may increase the anti-coagulant effect. If you are planning to take omega-3 supplements, it is important that you consult your physician. Based on anti-coagulant tests, your physician will determine the dosage of the anti-coagulant medication.

Negative side effects and precautions

A safe dose
Medical nutritionists and the American government agency Food and Drug Administration declared that a dose of 3 grams (3000 mg) of omega-3 daily may be considered as generally safe. In Circulation, the influential Journal of Cardiology, a panel of specialists of the American Heart Association published that a daily dose of 8 grams (8000 mg) omega-3 daily is acceptable.

Let me give you an idea how safe the recommended daily dose of MorEPA is:

  • 1 capsule of MorEPA consists of 750 mg omega-3 or approximately 570 mg EPA
  • 1 capsule of MorEPA-Mini consists of 314 mg omega-3 or approximately 240 mg EPA
  • 1 capsule of MorEPA+PLUS consists of 900 mg omega-3 or approximately 820 mg EPA and DHA
  • 1 capsule of MorEPA PLATINUM consists of  1100 mg omega-3 or approximately 1005 mg EPA and DHA
  • 1 capsule of PlusEPA consists of 550 mg omega-3 or approximately 500 mg EPA

(The exact content of each MorEPA capsule is mentioned on the box.)

PlusEPA is color free and flavor free
The most frequent side effect of omega-3 supplements is its fish aftertaste. MorEPA products undergo a special purification process (formula A1) in order to eliminate the fish taste as much as possible. However, if you are very sensitive to the taste of fish, they suggest you either take the capsules at the beginning of your meal or use PlusEPA.

Most people don't have any problems digesting MorEPA, whereas other fish oil supplements, when taken in high dosages, could result in stomach and intestinal problems. Some people may experience mild intestinal problems (i.e. more than one bowel movement per day, running or liquid bowel movement) when they suddenly take high dosages of MorEPA. If that is the case, it is advisable to lower the dose to 1 capsule per day during one or two weeks. Afterwards, you may want to increase the dose again.

Coagulation of the blood
In rare cases, the intake of high dosages (more than 3 grams per day) of omega-3 fatty acids could result in hematomas (bruises). A daily dose of 3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids corresponds with 3 capsules of MorEPA PLATINUM, 4 capsules MorEPA Smart Fats, 9 capsules MorEPA-Mini and 6 PlusEPA capsules per day. Similar to acetylsalicylic acid, omega-3 fatty acids have an inhibiting effect on the coagulation of the blood; they inhibit the adherence of blood platelets (aggregation of blood platelets). Generally, this inhibiting effect on the aggregation of blood platelets is considered a benefit because it counteracts the formation of blood clots, thereby lowering the risks of heart attack or stroke. Yet, it could constitute a problem for people who are prone to getting bruises or for individuals who take anti-coagulant medication (blood thinners)

How should I use MorEPA supplements?
To maintain optimal health, you should take one to two capsules of MorEPA daily. If you have specific health problems, the number of daily capsules may be increased. However, do not experiment on your own but consult your physician.

  • MorEPA and MorEPA-Mini: soft capsules made of fish gelatin
  • Take the entire capsule, preferably with a meal
  • Open the capsule and mix the content with chilled foods such as yoghurt, pudding, milkshakes, soy milk, fruit juice, fruit shakes, and salad dressings.
  • PlusEPA 90% Omega-3: capsules for slower absorption
  • Especially designed for people who do not tolerate fruit flavors, but who need 1 g of EPA
  • Two small PlusEPA capsules will give you 1 g of EPA
  • For better digestion and slower absorption in the intestine

Not all omega-3-supplements meet the requirements of a healthy product
Even though omega-3 supplements are, in general, good for one's health, all supplements do not have the same quality and all of them are not equally effective in contributing to one's emotional balance. An independent testing organization assessed the quality of fish oil supplements and reached the following distressing conclusions:

More than one brand out of four does not contain the ingredient levels that are mentioned on the label.
The EPA/DHA ratio is almost always lower than 4/1 (sometimes even 1.5/1). They know that EPA contributes to a healthy emotional balance and that DHA has much less of an impact on positive emotions. Therefore, supplements with a high a ratio of EPA, in comparison to DHA, are better for one's state of mind. In studies with dyslexia patients at Oxford University, supplements with an EPA/DHA ratio of at least 5/1 are used.
Certain products are contaminated with poisonous substances such as mercury, PCB's, dioxins or DDT (an organochlorine pesticide) that are present in the polluted aquatic environment where fish live.

How safe is MorEPA?
Very safe. Contrary to other fish oil supplements that contain contaminating substances such as PCB's dioxins, organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals, MorEPA does not show any traces of poisonous substances.

A strict purification process
The purification processes that guarantee the remarkable concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, also assure that impurities that are often found in fish, even in farmed fish, are eliminated. Impurities such as mercury, PCB's, dioxins and DDT are removed through a series of highly technological processes such as SVE/SVC techniques (supercritical liquid extraction/chromatography), at a low temperature (lower than 50°C).

A protective dose of vitamin E
MorEPA contains a protective dose of vitamin E that consists of several natural (alfa, beta, gamma en delta) tocopherols. These are antioxidants that preserve omega-3 fatty acids in their biologically active state. Moreover, they limit the risk of oxidation of the omega-3 fatty acids in the body. Thanks to vitamin E, MorEPA can be kept in a dry place for up to 3 years (temperature fluctuation between 15 and 25ºC). When MorEPA is exposed to light or high temperatures, the longevity diminishes, and the flexible capsules may get damaged.

100% natural
Omega-3 capsules, even the gelatin of the MorEPA softgel capsules, are completely manufactured from deep-sea fish.

Is MorEPA safer than eating fish?
It is theoretically possible to derive EPA and DHA solely from fish. However, in order to obtain the recommended daily dose of EPA and DHA, you have to consume large amounts of fish. You should also keep in mind that some studies show that the risk of breast cancer increases when you eat fish regularly. Why? Because oceans that are polluted with mercury (a heavy metal), PCB's, dioxins and DTT contaminate fish as well. It seems that reality forces us to choose for a safe supplement. If your goal is to consume the recommended daily intake of EPA, MorEPA provides you with a good and safe solution that is safer than consuming fish.

The EPA/DHA ratio in MorEPA is at least 7/1
MorEPA supplements were especially made to achieve a positive state of mind and emotional balance, thanks to the higher levels of EPA compared to DHA. MorEPA capsules contain at least seven times more EPA than DHA. PlusEPA may even contain 250 times more EPA than DHA.

The importance of a balanced diet
As part of a daily balanced nutritional plan, MorEPA provides you with the best results to maintain your health and immune system. The more you limit the intake of saturated fats and omega-6 fatty acids in your diet, the more you will benefit from nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Saturated fats and omega-6 fatty acids compete with omega-3 fatty acids to obtain a place on cell membranes (the walls of the cells). Also, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids counteract each other in order to control inflammatory reactions. Therefore, you should limit the use of vegetable oils and margarines (corn oil, sun flower oil ...) that are rich in omega-6 and substitute those with flax seed oil (omega-3) or olive oil. It is advisable to increase your intake of foods that are rich in omega-3 by eating small portions of (half) fatty fish, green leafy vegetables, nuts and flax seeds. Also, limit your intake of animal products to nutritional products from animals that have been raised on foods rich in omega-3 (for instance, eggs from chickens that eat flax seeds).

Interaction of various medicines

An example of how safe the recommended daily dose of MorEPA is:

  • 1 capsule of MorEPA consists of 750 mg omega-3 or approximately 570 mg EPA
  • 1 capsule of MorEPA-Mini consists of 314 mg omega-3 or approximately 240 mg EPA
  • 1 capsule of PlusEPA consists of 550 mg omega-3 or approximately 500 mg EPA
(The exact content of each MorEPA capsule is mentioned on the box.)

Pregnancy and breast feeding
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the development of the nervous system of the fetus and infant. Moreover, women whose intake of DHA during pregnancy is low, run a higher risk of developing postnatal depression. A panel of specialists that collaborates with the American nutritionist Dr. Artemis Simopoulos (a specialist in omega-3 fatty acids) advises pregnant women and women who breastfeed to take 2.22 g alpha-linoleic acid, 220 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA daily.

In order to meet both the mother's and the child's need for omega-3 fatty acids, Minami Nutrition proposes a combination of MorEPA with Barleans Flax Oil during the first months of pregnancy. In the last six months of pregnancy and while breastfeeding, the mother should take MorDHA. The young child can take MorDHA-Mini between the ages of 1 and 5.

Minami Nutrition is proud of its certified pharmacological purity
During the production of all Minami Nutrition supplements GMP-(Good Manufacturing Practice') is certified. This means that strict regulations are followed. All levels of omega-3 fatty acids that are mentioned on the label are certified. Moreover, all ingredients that are used have a high purity level and carry the label 'pharmacological-grade ingredients'. MorEPA is the first and, at the moment, only fish oil supplement in Europe that meets the superior standards of pharmacological purity. Minami Nutrition guaranty the PCB’s and DDT’s below the detection limits or < 2 ng/g.

Quality control
Every new batch of MorEPA is submitted to strict quality controls. Minami Nutrition guarantees that the level of heavy metals (iron, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, copper), PCB's and pesticides (DDE, DDT, HCB) are lower than the detection levels. Dioxin levels as well are lower than 2 pg TEQ/ g fat in accordance with European law.

  • This guaranteed purity is essential for a natural product that comes from the ocean, for such products are often contaminated. This guarantee, offered to you by Minami Nutrition, is unique in Europe.
  • Besides the stringent controls that are performed during the production process, Minami Nutrition regularly hires and independent lab to perform a quality analysis of its MorEPA supplies.
  • Purest end product

CO2-extraction results in an extremely pure end product:

  • Free from oxidized polyunsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, naturally blended tocopherols are added immediately as antioxidant.
  • Free from heavy metals, PCBs, pesticides, and dioxins. All their products are subjected to strict inspections by officially recognized, independent analysis centers. Analysis results are available upon request - proof of their confidence in their products.

Most natural extraction
Deep-sea fish oil is the basic ingredient for all Minami Nutrition Omega-3 supplements. First and foremost the oil needs to be purified. Which can be done with chemical solvents. But not at Minami! They only use ‘super critical CO2 liquid extraction’, without solvents. The numerous advantages of this leading technology include:

  • Only liquid CO2 is used, i.e. 100% natural - you are in fact exhaling CO2 at this very moment...
  • Environmentally friendly, because there are no contaminating chemical solvents.
  • Heating to 60°C suffices (not to 200°C as with traditional distillations), which preserves the natural structure of the polyunsaturated fatty acids.
  • Just unsaturated fatty acids
  • Minami Nutrition products contain no saturated fatty acids, because they are bad for our heart and arteries. Unfortunately, ordinary fish oil supplements contain up to 50% of these “bad” fatty acids.
  • So, what is their secret?
  • They use ethyl esters from the Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA. They are safely and readily absorbed by the body.

Ethyl Esters or Triglycerides?
The eternal debate concerning the efficacy of producing omega-3 fatty acids in ethyl esters versus triglycerides form is building up once again. Although ethyl esters have been proven time and time again to be perfectly safe, some manufacturers (of the triglyceride form) are misleading the public by claiming that they pose a health risk.

Some suggest that ethyl esters are forbidden in Scandinavia and soon will be in the United Kingdom. This is simply not correct and is highlighted by the fact that several food supplements and medicines that are based on ethyl esters are currently available in these markets and will continue to be in the future.

In addition there are many erroneous claims being made regarding the absorption rate of the two types of omega-3 fats. Several scientific studies reveal that post-24 hour absorption rates is identical between them and that ethyl esters may be the preferred form in the prevention of heart failure.

Although the ethyl ester form can be more expensive to make, Minami Nutrition’s believes its metabolism is a natural process in the human body and in tandem with the patented EFP (Environmentally Friendly Purified) process are integral in making the “Gold Standard” omega-3 fatty acid supplement range.

Convenient and advantageous
Be careful with so-called natural fish oils. They usually contain only 15-30% EPA and DHA - the remainder consists of ordinary saturated fats. This means that you would have to take 4 to 10 capsules every day in order to meet the body’s requirements. Their supplements contain up to 95% EPA and DHA! In most cases one (sometimes two) capsule(s) per day is sufficient. So much more convenient and ... advantageous. Note: when comparing fish oil supplements, always compare the amount of unsaturated fatty acids per capsule and then calculate the cost per day. The advantages associated with the extremely pure, highly concentrated and natural fish oil products provided by Minami Nutrition will be obvious immediately.

Minami Nutrition considers a scientific approach of paramount importance. Their formulas are composed in consultation with a select committee of 10 independent and renowned scientists. They also collaborate with a number of universities, both in Europe and elsewhere. Which other manufacturer of nutritional supplements do you know who operates with such attention to detail?
