ActiveFlow Venting Technology
Born Free's patented, leak-free ActiveFlow Venting Technology helps mothers breastfeed longer by simulating mother's natural milk flow which is controlled by baby while nursing. This helps prevent nipple confusion and reduces the amount of air ingested by baby while feeding. Born Free's Active-Flow Venting Technology is also clinically designed to reduce colic and gas which can be experienced particularly after drinking formula. Born Free is the natural choice for safe and calm feeding.

BornFree's patented Active-Flow Venting Technology:

  • Helps extend breastfeeding by mimicking mom's natural milk flow
  • Helps prevent nipple confusion and reduces air ingested while feeding.
  • Helps reduce colic symptoms like gas pain, spit-up, crying, and fussiness.

The Born Free Bottle System is uniquely designed to address the feeding needs of all babies - whether they are breastfed, formula fed, or both - making it the natural choice for all mothers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What makes Born Free bottles so unique?
Born Free bottles are one of the few bottle systems that are ideal for both breastfeeding and formula feeding. The vent inside the bottle, called ActiveFlow Venting Technology, allows the baby to control the flow of milk and is designed to help reduce colic symptoms. This means that whether a mom decides to exclusively breastfeed, breastfeed and supplement with or switch to formula, or strictly formula feed she will not need to switch bottle systems. The Born Free Classic Bottles are made out of PES plastic (Polyethersulfone), a durable and premium material that is ideal for boiling and repeated sterilization. Born Free Classic Bottles are also bottom rack dishwasher safe. Classic Bottles maintain the integrity of the valve and collar fit to the bottle and prevent leaking that can be experienced with other bottle brands..

Do Born Free bottles leak?
Born Free bottles are made from quality materials and feature an ActiveFlow Venting Technology, so when assembled correctly they do not leak. If a customer has experienced leaking it is due to one of two issues. First, the collar is being screwed onto the bottle too tightly. This will build up too much pressure inside the bottle and can warp the vent, and it can begin to leak. Loosening the collar just a little bit will solve this issue. The second reason a bottle could leak is because of the vents. Make sure the 2 pieces of the vent are fitting tightly together and snuggly inside the bottle. Next, you want to inspect the silicone valve portion of the vent. If you push up on this valve, you will see a vertical slit on one side. If this slit is torn in anyway, even in the slightest, then the bottle may leak. To avoid tearing – vents should be washed carefully, either in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand using a gentle bottle brush such as the Born Free Tru-Clean Bottle Cleaning System.

Do the nipples collapse during feedings?
No, Born Free is a vented bottle system and the nipples do not collapse when used correctly. If a customer is experiencing nipples collapsing it is due to one of two issues. The most common reason is that the child is ready to move up to the next level nipple. When the baby sucks harder than what the liquid is flowing, the nipple will start to collapse or invert into itself. Born Free offers 5 levels of nipples to fit all the stages of a baby's development. The second reason a nipple will collapse is that the collar is being screwed onto the bottle too tightly. This will build up too much pressure inside the bottle and the nipple will collapse. Loosening the collar just a little bit will solve this issue.

Why are Born Free bottles yellow or cloudy in appearance?
Since Born Free bottles are free from chemicals such as BPA and PVC, the Classic bottles have a honey (yellowish) color to them. This is because the bottles are made from the plastic PES (Polyethersulfone). The Deco bottles have a milky or cloudy appearance because are made of the plastic Polypropylene. Both are absolutely safe and normal.

Can Born Free bottles be uses with bottle warmers or sterilizers?
Yes, Born Free Classic and Deco bottles can be used with most bottle warmers and sterilizers. Born Free recommends Born Free’s Tru-Temp Bottle Warmer and Tru-Clean Steam Sterilizer. Born Free Glass bottles are safe to sterilize. If using a bottle warmer, Born Free always recommends reading the manufacturer’s instructions before warming a glass bottle. If a customer does use a bottle warmer, they must make sure the liquid they are warming is at room temperature. Taking a cool or cold bottle and putting into a warmer could cause the glass to crack.

Are the Born Free parts interchangeable?
All cups and bottles are completely interchangeable. Spouts and handles can be put on bottles and nipples can be put on cups. The only exception is the Twist 'N Pop Straw Cup which is not interchangeable.

Can Born Free bottles be frozen?
Yes, the Classic and Deco plastic bottles can be frozen with the collar and sealing disk. Do not freeze with the vent or nipple on the bottle. Born Free does not recommend freezing glass bottles.

Can Born Free bottles be microwaved?
Both glass and plastic bottles can be put in the microwave for small intervals; however, Born Free does not recommend using the microwave for warming a bottle as hot spots can develop.

What kind of plastic is used to make Born Free Bottles?
Born Free's Classic Bottles that have a honey (yellow) tint to them and are made out of PES (Polyethersulfone) and the Deco bottles that have a white tint (cloudy appearance) are made of Polypropylene.

Can cereal be added to formula when using a Born Free bottle?
When cereal has to be added to a bottle, consumers should use Level 3 nipples. The Y cut can be used for thicker formulas or for children who are older. Born Free recommends speaking to a pediatrician before adding cereal to bottles.

How should Born Free products be sterilized?
Wash and sterilize your Born Free products before use. Products can be sterilized by either boiling them for five-to-ten minutes in water or by using a Born Free Tru-Clean Steam Sterilizer.

Can Born Free products be boiled?
Yes. All parts are designed to withstand sterilization by boiling in five-to-ten minute intervals. Please ensure that the pieces do not rest on the bottom or sides of a metal pot as this may cause them to melt.

Are the bottles dishwasher safe?
All parts of the Born Free Feeding System are dishwasher-safe. Classic bottles can be placed on the bottom rack, but all other products should be placed on the top rack when dishwashing. Secure the smaller pieces so they do not fall to the bottom of the dishwasher and run the dishwasher as you would normally.

How should Born Free products be maintained?
Wash all Born Free products with mild soap. Avoid antibacterial soaps and harsh cleaners that can affect the silicone in the products and cause the plastic to become brittle. Wash nipples using only your fingers and warm, soapy water. Alternatively you can use Born Free's Tru-Clean Bottle Cleaning System. Replace the nipples every two to three months or at the first sign of wear.

Do all Born Free bottles come with nipples?
Yes. All 5oz Born Free bottles come with level 1 nipples and 9oz bottles come with level 2 nipples. All nipples are made of silicone. Born Free training and drinking cups also come with their own spouts.

Do Born Free products contain PVC?
No. Born Free products are free from Poly-Vinyl Chloride (PVC).

Can Born Free bottles be used for a second baby after they were used for the first?
The bottles are perfectly fine to use after they have been stored away but customers should replace the venting system, nipples and collars.

Are Born Free bottles recyclable?
Yes, Born Free bottles can be recycled at a recycling center or put in a recycling bin.

Why does my Born Free bottle have a film on it when it comes out of the dishwasher?
Born Free does not recommend using harsh dishwasher soaps because they can leave a film on bottles. To remove film, simply boil in vinegar and water.

What are the nipple and vent components on Born Free bottles made of?
All nipple and vent components are made of medical grade silicone.

What sort of inks are used for the designs on Born Free bottles?
Designs on Deco bottles are lead free and chemical free like food coloring.

Can I use a bristle bottle brush to clean Born Free bottle nipples and venting systems?
Born Free does not recommend the use bristle brushes when cleaning nipples and venting systems, they can tear the nipples and venting system and this will cause the bottles to leak.

How often should I replace the nipples on Born Free bottles?
Born Free recommends that nipples be replaced after 3 months.

About BornFree

BornFree specializes in producing smart and safe baby products. BornFree has developed a range of products that are free of the potentially dangerous chemicals bisphenol-a (bpa), phthalates and pvc. Bpa is a known estrogen mimicker that is used in the production of polycarbonate plastic. According to researchers, bpa may cause developmental and neurological problems if it leaches from plastic. Reports suggest that small amounts of bpa may leach into food or beverages stored in polycarbonate containers, especially when the contents are heated. In addition, BornFree's cups and bottles feature the unique BornFree venting system, designed to reduce colic and ear infections. We will shortly be extending our product line to include more high quality toxin-free products.
