Meet The Good Fats
Have you heard about those great Omega-3's & Omega-6's? Guess what? They're fats! Like their name suggests, these essential fatty acids (EFA's) are required for life. More than any other other plant on Earth, hemp seeds provide the perfect balance of naturally-occurring Omega-3's with SDA and Omega-6's with GLA. They have no known allergens, and provide a valuable source of protein, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin E, iron % zinc.

Never Had it? Never will. There is 0.00% THC in their products. Living harvest is a member of Testpledge.com

What is hemp?
Every industrialized nation, except the USA, allows cultivation. Hemp isn't marijuana. It has no drug value. Hemp is one of the most nutritious and sustainably-grown plants in the world. And it makes great tasting products that are good for you and the planet. For these reasons and more, we want to bring hemp farming back to the US.

When it comes to food, fabrics, rope, paper and building materials, industrial hemp has a longstanding history in the US. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both cultivated hemp on their farms. Even drafts of the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper. After the Controlled Substances Act was passed in 1970, hemp was classified with marijuana and was deemed illegal to grow in the US. Today, hemp is proving to have even greater value as a potential source of renewable energy, and as a raw material for biodiesel and ethanol.

Industrial hemp is a plant, one of the hardiest plants around actually. Its dense foliage and planting density prevent weeds from growing without the use of herbicides. That makes it a favorite of farmers practicing sustainable farming methods. And without the use of pesticides too!

Living Harvest products are made from shelled hemp seeds grown sustainably on Canadian farms, without the use of pesticides. Hemp is easily cultivated and grown in a variety of areas, even those that are particularly dry, with poor soil and short growing seasons.

Hemp food products are, now more than ever, facing a growing demand by US consumers. With food allergies on the rise, natural, unprocessed, raw and organic foods are widely becoming the new norm. As an agricultural crop, hemp is a plant-based superfood. It offers an exceptional alternative to dairy, nuts and soy. It's vegan and gluten-free. Hemp is sustainable, non-GMO and grown without herbicides or pesticides, with no known allergens.

Hemp is nothing to be afraid of. It's not marijuana and has no drug value. In fact, hemp contains 0.00% THC. The only "high" you'll get is from the oh-so-delicious, rich and creamy taste. Consumption of Living Harvest Tempt or any hemp foods will never cause failure on any type of drug test. For more information visit TestPledge.com.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are hemp seeds?
Hemp seeds are the edible part of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa L). They are tiny, round seeds, slightly larger than a sesame seed and have a light nutty flavor. Hemp seeds can be pressed for oil, milled into protein powder, roasted or shelled and made into hemp foods.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Hemp is a completely different plant than its psychoactive cousin and has no drug value. Hemp is so nutritious that it is rapidly gaining popularity as one of the most valuable sources of quality plant-based protein. It's also a rich source of Omegas, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, making it an ideal alternative for vegetarians and anyone with allergies to soy and dairy.

Will I get high eating their products?
Hemp has no "drug" value and contains 0.00%THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the psycho-active component found in marijuana. The hemp seeds and hemp foods used by Living Harvest are certified by TestPledge.com. Hemp is legal and safe to consume and consumption of hemp foods will never cause failure on any type of drug test.

Where is hemp grown?
Hemp food products are, now more than ever, facing a growing demand by US consumers. After the Controlled Substances Act was passed in 1970, industrial hemp was unfortunately grouped with marijuana and deemed illegal to grow in the US. All hemp used in Tempt and Living Harvest products is currently grown in Canada. Learn more at votehemp.com or sign up on their Facebook page to get news about how you can get involved.

How do they get milk from hemp?
Using a proprietary process, they grind the seeds and filter out the insoluble particles. This leaves a smooth liquid base for their hemp milks. They add a few other ingredients for function and flavor then aseptically package the milk for a shelf stable beverage.

Is it really "whole nutrition" if it comes from a plant?
Tempt Hempmilk contains more Omega-3 & 6 essential fatty acids than any other dairy or non-dairy beverage. One serving of Tempt Hempmilk provides about 50% of the recommended daily value of Omega-3 EFA's. In fact, 92% of the fat content in Tempt Hempmilk is Omega EFA's. It is also a complete protein with all 10 essential amino acids, contains more protein than rice or almond milk, and is free from enzyme inhibitors found in soy. Tempt Hempmilk is ideal for folks with allergies - hemp has no known allergens.

What are essential fatty acids (EFA's)?
The major components of fat are long-chain molecules known as fatty acids. The two fatty acids that the body does not make are called Omega-3 Linolenic Acid and Omega-6 Linoleic Acid. We need to get these "good fats" from food, which is why they are termed essential. Living Harvest hemp products provide a naturally occurring perfect balance of 1:3 Omega-3 to Omega-6 which is vital for normal growth and development, in particular skin and heart health.

What are super omegas?
The new Tempt recipe and processing techniques offer 56% of your daily value of Omega-3 essential fatty acids in a serving - wow!

Unlike soy, rice, almond or dairy milk, their hemp foods contain the naturally-occurring Super Omegas Stearidonic Acid (SDA) and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). SDA and GLA help your body convert the benefits of Omega-3 & Omega-6 EFA's more efficiently. Due to factors such as age, genetics, diet and lifestyle, people don't all process these good fats the same way. SDA and GLA help everyone maximize the benefits of Omega EFA's. You know you're getting a good thing from hemp seeds - SDA and GLA are not found in flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, soybeans, pumpkin seeds, canola oil, corn oil, almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts.

What are essential amino acids (EAAs)?
Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. Dietary protein is needed in order to supply amino acids for their body's growth and maintenance. Ten of the twenty amino acids the human body requires are considered essential, meaning the body does not make them so people must get them from food. Hemp seeds contain an impressive profile of all 10 essential amino, important for the development of lean body mass, as well as muscular repair. Hemp seeds have significant levels of arginine, histidine, methionine and cysteine, all of which are needed for enzyme production. Arginine and histidine are also necessary for children's growth.

Protein: Hemp seeds are one of the plant kingdom's best sources of easily digestible, high-quality protein. Proteins are among the body's most essential nutrients, helping build and repair tissue and build lean muscle mass. 65% of hemp seeds' protein is high-quality edestin, making them the highest vegan source of this simple protein that's required for proper immune system function. The other 35% is albumin protein. With live enzymes intact, hemp's digestible proteins are easily assimilated into the body. Hemp protein is also a great alternative if you're allergic to the proteins found in dairy and soy.

What is carrageenan and why is it added to Tempt products?
Carrageenan is derived from a wide variety of red seaweeds and is a commonly used food additive. The carrageenan used in Tempt products is extracted using a multi-step process to avoid any degradation. After careful washing, the seaweed is dissolved in warm alkaline water and filtered.

There has been some negative publicity about carrageenan that is based on a different compound derived from seaweed called poligeenan. The latter is used strictly for industrial, non-food uses. While poligeenan did demonstrate unfavorable health effects in studies, food-grade carrageenan has no known toxicity and is considered Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the US Food & Drug Administration.

What are the nutritional benefits of hemp protein powder compared to soy protein powder?
Hemp protein is highly digestible due to its protein structure and low levels of enzyme inhibitors. Unlike soy protein powders, hemp protein does not contain:

  • Phytates which can interfere with the proper assimilation of essential minerals
  • Oligosaccharide which can cause flatulence and stomach distress
  • Phyto-estrogens which can cause hormonal imbalances in the body
  • Common allergens like those found in dairy, soy and tree-nuts

What are the benefits of Living Harvest culinary oil compared with other finishing oils?
With a delicious light and nutty taste, hemp oil is a great culinary option. Hemp oil is primarily polyunsaturated fats which make it heart healthy and great for you! Unlike sesame, olive or coconut oil, hemp oil contains a balanced 1:3 ratio of omega 3:6 essential fatty acids (EFA's). Hemp oil contains 2.3g essential omega-3 ALA (143% daily value) and 8.6g essential omega-6 and 2g omega-9s. Hemp oil also naturally contains 2% daily value vitamin E which is a fat soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. It is a low to medium heat oil ideal for short term cooking and baking up to 330 degrees F.

What are the nutritional benefits of Living Harvest Hemp Oil?
Hemp oil contains more naturally occurring essential fatty acids per serving (92%) than most other oils, including borage and flax, making it an ideal dietary supplement. In addition, hemp oil provides the perfectly balanced 1:3 ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 EFA's for our body. Hemp oil contains 2.3 g essential omega-3 ALA (143% daily value) and 8.6g essential omega-6 and 2g omega-9s. Hemp oil also naturally contains 2% daily value vitamin E which is a fat soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. Unlike other seeds and nutritional oils, hemp seeds also contain Super Omega-3 Stearodic Acid (SDA) and Super Omega-6 Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) that help to reduce inflammation and improve mental functioning.

Are their products organic?
Living Harvest Hemp Protein Powder and Hemp Oil are certified organic. Tempt Hempmilk and non-dairy frozen dessert are not certified organic; however, the large majority of the sugars, flavorings, oils, and gums included in Tempt products are certified organic.

Why can the taste/texture of the products vary?
While they always strive for consistency, the taste of hemp can vary depending on the different characteristics of the varietal. Like all agricultural crops, different countries, regions, climates, soil, etc. can create a different flavor profile. As a result, you may experience a slight variation in the taste and texture of hemp products.

Is hemp sustainable?
Hemp is an extremely hardy plant that doesn't require pesticides or herbicides to grow. For this reason, farmers looking for organic certification often use it for weed control. They feel good about working with farmers who grow hemp under sustainable farming practices and are environmentally conscious.

I have allergies. How can I be sure their products are safe?
Tempt and Living Harvest products are free of soy, gluten, tree-nuts, and dairy. They are also vegan, non-GMO and contain no trans fats or cholesterol.

I have allergies. How can I be sure your products are safe?
Their products are processed in facilities where there may be traces of peanuts and tree nuts. All of their suppliers have extensive and strict guidelines for cleaning and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in order to help ensure that cross contamination does not occur.

Are their products kosher?
Yes. All of their products are certified kosher. Look for the (OD) label on their packaging.

What are natural flavors?
The natural flavors in Tempt Hempmilk are natural, liquid vanilla. They are gluten, soy, tree-nut, and dairy free. They contain no eggs, MSG, rye, oats, barley, malt, wheat, rice, or citrus.

Is Tempt Hempmilk safe for children?
Yes. However, while hemp protein is the best plant based protein, your child may have specific dietary needs - for this reason, always check with a pediatrician. Tempt Hempmilk is not a replacement for infant formula.

Does Tempt Hempmilk separate?
Yes. Like most non-dairy beverages, Tempt Hempmilk needs a vigorous shake to ensure all the nutrients, including calcium, are well-blended. If not, some separation with the product may occur.

In unshaken hemp milk, separation may appear as white specs - most often these specs tend to be calcium. Note that this does not mean the product has been compromised, it only means it needs another shake! Tempt Hempmilk will quickly go back into solution and have no affect on taste, flavor, or the safety of the product.

Does Living Harvest Hemp Oil need to be refrigerated?
Ideally yes. Living Harvest Hemp Oil should be stored in a cool place and refrigerated after opening. However, it is safe to store Living Harvest Hemp Oil unrefrigerated. They nitrogen flush their hemp oil and package it in a dark bottle to help preserve the Omegas in the product. Also hemp oil naturally contains 2% DV of vitamin E which acts as a natural preservative.

How long does Tempt Hempmilk stay fresh?
Once opened, Tempt Hempmilk should always be refrigerated and will remain fresh for approximately 10 days.

Can I freeze Tempt Hempmilk?
Yes, but they don't recommend it. Freezing does not affect the safety or nutritional value of the product, but it can affect the appearance and consistency of the milk.

Is Tempt Hempmilk packaging recyclable?
Yes. They use Tetra Pak cartons, made from paper that comes from responsibly sourced, well-managed forests. Worldwide, over 22 billion Tetra Pak cartons are recycled annually. To find out if Tetra Pak is available for curbside recycling near you, visit recyclecartons.com or tetrapakusa.com.

Can I bake with Tempt Hempmilk?
Absolutely. Tempt Hempmilk can be used as a substitute for dairy or soymilk in baking or cooking. With a light yet creamy taste, their milk works well in both sweet and savory dishes from puddings to soups. It even makes a delicious smoothies and milkshake with Tempt frozen dessert. Why hemp?
Their quest is to share the goodness of hemp with everyone. Join the hemp evolution. They look to dispel false myths and demystify hemp.

  • Hemp is a plant-based superfood. It is an exceptional dairy alternative and a tasty substitute for nuts and soy. It's vegan and gluten-free.
  • As an agricultural crop, hemp is sustainable, non-GMO and grown without herbicides or pesticides, with no known allergens.
  • Hemp is nothing to be afraid of. It's not marijuana and has no drug value. In fact, it contains 0.00% THC.

Hemp seeds are the edible part of the hemp plant (cannabis sativa I). Some are surprised to learn they are one of the best sources of easily digestible, high-quality protein. Rich in all 10 essential amino acids, the building blocks of protein, hemp helps develop lean body mass and promotes muscular repair. It is an awesome source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, which support energy production, nervous system function, brain development, heart health and a healthy immune system. Not many foods can do all that. Easy to see why hemp is the perfect - and perfectly healthy - natural food choice. Until now hemp has been largely misunderstood. Join the evolution in the way they nourish people's bodies. Make the change.

A Little History of Hemp
The seed of an idea for Tempt dates back over a decade to a time when science, education and creativity merged. It happened at the University of Saskatchewan where scientists seeking a new source of vegetable protein began doing experiments with hemp. These enlightened Canadian researchers discovered the protein potential locked within the hemp seed. The balanced combination of essential fatty and amino acids provided a nutritional profile unlike any other vegetable. The Center for Food Science's breakthrough gave them a brilliant and sustainable food source, which can be cultivated without negative environmental impact. Celebration ensued.

Fast forward to the Pacific Northwest. Freedom loving, environmentalist, hempfood pioneers moved the fledgling company to Portland, Oregon. Connections were made with other hemp visionaries, actors, rock stars, natural foods champions, inventors, mad scientists, revolutionaries and hopeless optimists - Tempt was born. Tempt hemp products multiply. Fans abound.
