Soil Association Certification
The Soil Association is the UK's leading campaigning and certification organisation for organic - providing certification to all sectors of the market including food, farms, textiles, health and beauty care, restaurants and even timber. Founded in 1946 their mission has always been to promote organic agriculture as a sustainable alternative to intensive farming methods, campaigning for safer, healthier produce and production methods.
The Soil Association is a unique certification organisation in that it has standards specific to health and beauty products. These standards were launched in 2002 and strictly govern the ingredients and processes that can be used in the production of organic products. This is why Bentley Organic stands by the Soil Association and its logo can be found on our products as a guarantee of Bentley Organic's integrity - a logo that is recognised and trusted by consumers.
The standards state that organic health and beauty products should be fit for their purpose, have as high as possible proportion of organic ingredients and should not be harmful to human health and the environment in manufacture and in use. Furthermore, they require products to be comprehensively labelled to give clear and accurate information so that consumers can make an informed choice about what they are buying.
In addition, Soil Association certification means that Bentley Organic products are:

Bentley Organic is a subsidiary of Thos. Bentley & Son Ltd that was established in the 1800's making soap for the textile industry. The organisation diversified their offering by creating soap-based products suitable for other markets and today the largest subsidiary, Stephenson Group Ltd, is one of the world’s leading speciality soap base producers, exporting product throughout the world. The business is still run from the same site in Leeds (West Yorkshire, England) and continues to expand on its experience and develop new skills, now focusing on using green chemistry to create innovative new products that provide safer alternatives for the individual and the environment.
In 2000 – and then again in 2007 – the company was proud to achieve the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the UK's most prestigious award for business performance. Furthermore, Bentley Organic is the only soap making plant in the world to have both the Soil Association certification and the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard.
