Should I sterilize my Green to Grow baby bottles and nipples?
Yes. Wash and sterilize Green to Grow baby bottles and nipples before first use. Bottles and nipples can be sterilized by either placing them in boiling water for 2 to 5 minutes, or by using countertop or microwaveable sterilizing machine and following manufacturer’s instructions. After sterilizing, wash bottles and nipples in hot, soapy water (or run them through dishwasher) before every use. Bottles and nipples can transmit bacteria if not properly cleaned.

Can Green to Grow baby bottles and nipples be boiled?
Yes. All bottle and nipple parts are designed to withstand sterilization by placing them in boiling water for 2 – 5 minutes. Please be careful that pieces do not rest on bottom or sides of metal container as they may melt.

Are Green to Grow baby bottles and nipples dishwasher safe?
Yes. All parts of Green to Grow bottles and nipples are dishwasher-safe. Place bottles on the top rack when using dishwasher. Secure smaller pieces so they do not fall to the bottom. Run dishwasher as you would normally.

How do I clean and maintain Green to Grow baby bottles and nipples?

  • Wash all bottles and nipples with a mild soap.
  • Avoid antibacterial soaps and harsh cleaners that can cause plastic to become brittle.
  • Wash nipples using sponge or nipple brush, but do not push nipple brush through hole in nipple.
  • Replace nipples every two to three months.

What are Green to Grow nipples made from?
Green To Grow nipples are made from a transparent, medical grade silicone that is heat-resistant, non-toxic, and odorless. And these nipples are free of nitrosamines, a potentially harmful contaminant found in many rubber nipples that has been found to migrate into liquids.

How do I prevent nipple collapse?
Nipple collapse is a problem that occurs when air circulation is cut off inside the bottle and baby continues to suck, thus causing the nipple to collapse into the bottle. This is mostly an issue with babies who are transitioning from a vented nipple/system such as Avent, Dr. Brown’s (with the anti-colic insert), and Born Free. Babies can develop a very strong sucking pattern based on their primary experience with bottle feeding. A small percentage of babies have a hard time moving from one nipple to another, or from a vented nipple to an unvented nipple.

To decrease the possibility of nipple collapse, please follow the suggestions below. If none of these work, you may want to consider trying the Gerber NUK nipples in either Green To Grow regular neck or wide neck bottles, since they are vented and can alleviate the problem of nipple collapse in some cases.

Do not over-tighten the ring that attaches the nipple to the bottle. This is the #1 cause of nipple collapse. The ring should be tight enough so that is doesn’t leak or fall off, but not so tight that it cuts off all air circulation. If nipple collapses into the bottle, loosen the ring, lift it to let air into the bottle, and pull out the nipple. When reattaching the ring, do not over-tighten it. Lack of air circulation can cause nipple to collapse into the bottle.

Green to Grow, in the most fundamental sense, did not start as an idea for a company. It began with the commitment, as parents, to the gathering of information that would allow the founders to provide the best possible care for their son, to keep him healthy, and to protect him from as many dangers as they could. What they found, and continue to find in their research, is both appalling and inspiring. Appalling because humans have created an astounding array of dangers for themselves, and especially for their children. Inspiring because there is deep and widespread commitment to addressing these dangers and to promoting healthy alternatives.

Creating a line of bisphenol A free baby bottles was their way of taking direct action where they saw a need. But while addressing a single concern is a positive step, Green To Grow believes their responsibility cannot end there. In order to address the problems associated with the effects of toxic chemicals on human health and on the environment, they must join together with the larger community of those who are working for a greener and safer world. Not just for children, though they are certainly the most vulnerable in every sense, but for everyone.

About Green To Grow

Green to Grow baby bottles are made from a bpa-free plastic named polyethersulfone (pes). Pes is known for its ability to remain stable over a wide range of temperatures and for its exceptional durability. Found to be less porous and less reactive than other compounds, pes can withstand repeated sterilization without degrading. Most important, it is free of phthalates and free of bisphenol a (bpa), a suspected hormone-disrupting chemical used in polycarbonate plastic, from which most baby bottles are made. Pes is FDA approved to be safely used in contact with food. Our caps and rings are made from polypropylene plastic, which is also bpa-free, and our nipples are made from a medical grade silicone.
