Wholesome! Frequently Asked Questions

Can Wholesome! Organic Molasses be substituted for brown sugar in a recipe?
If Wholesome! Organic Sugar is added in conjunction with the organic molasses the substitution should work. Part of the joy of baking with organic brown sugar is the combination of structure and texture that sucrose offers complemented by the molasses flavor profile. They recommend mixing 1/4 cup molasses into every cup of organic sugar. As a straight one-to-one replacement for brown sugar, it really depends on the recipe: in a sauce or other liquid, the substitution may work, as where if it is a baked good, the results may not be as promising. In baked products, it will likely be very difficult to get them to rise, develop a crumb, without any sucrose. But house rules always apply; go play!

Are there any enzymes added to Wholesome! Organic Molasses?
No enzymes are added to their Organic Molasses. It contains only the natural enzymes that are already prevalent in this organic sugar cane. They do not add any preservatives or additives.

Not sure where either the metal or bitter taste came from (unless the reviewer was tasting some of the aluminum that is, admittedly, hard to get off the top. The fact is that this is absolutely superb molasses - I drink right from the bottle - what better way is there?
