Overnight Bamboobies: Thicker and More Absorbant Bamboo Fleece
- Outer Layers: 100% Bamboo rayon-fiber certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100
- Inner Layer: 100% non-bleached GOTS certified organic cotton
Bamboobies fabric producers meet the Global Organic Textile Standards or are certified annually by OEKO Tex 100, OCIA or USDA. They go 'Beyond Organic' to ensure that fibers are not treated with toxic chemicals and that only water-based dyes are used.
Bamboobies is serviced by Soft Style, Inc. They named their company after an acronym for SOFT, Sustainability. Organics. Fair-Trade. Their mission is to ensure that new mothers and babies are happier and healthier and so it their world. They believe that mother and babies deserve the luxury of softness and soft-living.
Soy is the new 'veggie cashmere!'
Most of the time soy fiber is a waste product of soybean oil and tofu manufacturing ... but, once in a while, a savvy textile manufacturer reclaims this food by-product for an innovative new fabric blend. Soy is more breathable, absorbent and durable than cotton and is naturally anti-microbial and UV protective. Like silk, it is softer than cotton and longer-lasting. It dries quickly, doesn't wrinkle as easily and feels luxuriously comfortable.
Soy fibers do not require any toxic bleaching or toxic chemicals to process and our soy blends are non-GMO. Soy fibers are ideal for garments as they 'close the loop' on manufacturing waste. Soy and Organic Cotton blends are found in our jersey Butterfly Wraps.
Hemp: the most sustainable and versatile plant on earth!
Hemp is considered 'naturally organic' because it does not exhaust the soil, uses little water, and requires no pesticides or herbicides. With high moisture absorbency -- four times that of cotton -- and high heat conductivity, it is well suited to line breast pads. Hemp is famous for 'wearing in - not out!' as it softens with each wash. Hemp and organic cotton blends are found in the inner core of all of Bamboobies products because of hemp's amazing absorbing properties.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Bamboobies and other washable, reusable breast pads?
Bamboobies are less visible, more eco, more cost-effective and cuter than other nursing pads on the market today. The bamboo is the softest on tender nursing nipples, soothing and wicking away moisture.
- When cotton pads leak though, regular Bamboobies milk-proof backing prevents leaks!
- When cotton pads feel cold and clammy when wet, bamboo doesn't.
- Where cotton pads are more bulky and visible through clothing, Bamboobies aren't.
Bamboobies are also the eco-nomical and eco-conscious choice for nursing mothers today when compared with disposable pads.
Do Bamboobies show through shirts as much as other nursing pads?
Bamboobies are made with super-absorbent fabrics and with fine stitching on the edges to prevent visibility through shirts. They're not invisible but they're much less obvious than other washable nursing pads. Bamboobies don't show!
Do Bamboobies cost more than other nursing pads?
Bamboobies actually cost less than disposable pads over the typical length of time that a nursing mother needs to use breast pads - actually only about 1/10th of the cost of disposables!
What is the difference between Regular and Overnight Bamboobies?
Regular Bamboobies are heart-shaped and ultra-thin with a milk-proof backing. They are less visible under clothing and are ideal for when your milk supply is regulated. Overnight Bamboobies are super-soft and ultra-thick. They are ideal for the early days of newborn nursing and for heavy leakers. And they are also bigger than other washable pads so they keep you covered while you sleep.
How do I know what type and how many I will need?
Every breastfeeding experience is unique and therefore everyone's nursing pad needs will be different. A good place to start is figuring you will need approximately 2 pairs during the day and 1-2 pairs during the night. So… how many Bamboobies you order depends on how frequently you plan to do laundry! If you are still pregnant or giving a gift, the multi-pack or variety gift box is a great way to try some of each type.
I like the Butterfly Wrap but don't know what size to order... How do I figure that out?
The Butterfly Wrap is very flexible and stretchy and isn't form-fitting so we generally recommend women that are size 2-8 order a Small/Medium and women size 8-14 order a Medium/Large. If you're taller than 5'8", you may want to order the larger size. If you're only using the wrap as a nursing cover and not when you're pregnant, remember that breastfeeding will help you get back to your standard size in no time and you're going to look great in the wrap because it's not form-fitting.
The Bamboobies Story
Bamboobies were born out of necessity - 'the mother of invention!' After creator Kerry Gilmartin was breastfeeding for a few months, she was still leaking sometimes. She even leaked through the thick washable cotton pads. Kerry was tired of looking like she had round targets on my chest where the pads showed through my shirt. Disposables also showed wrinkles and just created too much trash. And disposables get very expensive!
So one day she decided, just because it was handy, to stuff a washable diaper wipe into her bra - it felt great, but it looked funny and was far from perfect. It was made of organic bamboo velour so it was deliciously soft and wicked and absorbed like a great pad should. She'd never felt anything so soft! A year into product development and prototyping with different fabrics and designs, Bamboobies haa settled on a couple of unique breast pad designs that mothers love.
Armed with a business degree, an entrepreneurial background and exciting products and mission, Kerry has taken off running. She's started other businesses, but has never felt so committed and excited.
Nursing her children for the last 4+ years has enabled her to develop great products -- and has kept her grounded. She didn't have an easy time breastfeeding in the beginning and she hopes to help others with the new challenges of motherhood as others have helped her. Hearing that Bamboobies helped a new mother's cracked nipple heal -- that a woman felt she could continue to nurse because of Bamboobies makes her day!
Kerry hasn't done it alone: Her thanks goes out to all the new-mom testers, seamstresses, sales and marketing team, first retailers, lactation consultants, fellow mom-preneur pals and her ever-supportive husband and family. Designing the perfect bamboobies and nursing wraps with fun, hip marketing has been challenging, but they've finally done it!
The 'Overnight' Bamboobies Story
The idea for the "Overnights" came from Bamboobies users: one new mother asked for a pad that was extra-large, wouldn't slip around in her tank-top, and was ultra soft and absorbent for the early days and nights of nursing. Those first 6-9 weeks are tough if you are engorged - especially at night. The last thing you want is to be woken up by leaking milk while your baby sleeps soundly! Overnights have become a new mother essential.
Overnights are, as one mother says, "like a cashmere sweater for my boobies - perfect for the first few months of nursing."
The Cute Little Nursing Cover Story
Kerry was in an airport restaurant with her 2-month old son having trouble with the latch and the last thing I needed was onlookers. Her husband was concerned when I bared almost-all to make it happen and she felt uncomfortable too! But Kerry didn't feel she should need to hide in the ladies room or wear a silly-looking apron to feed her son.
Kerry looked but couldn't find a stylish answer to my problem so she began wearing a shawl - sometimes to nurse and sometimes because it was cute. She worked with a couture designer friend to develop a cover that she could feel good about wearing. The Cute Little Nursing Cover was born of a need for fashion & discretion and is the solution for women who want to nurse their baby privately and stylishly.
