Why is mix1 a good choice after a workout?
mix1 provides the nutrition your body needs after a workout.  The carbohydrates in mix1 are ideal for glycogen replacement aiding in optimal recovery and the whey protein isolate assists with muscle repair.  In addition, the antioxidants in mix1 help offset inflammation (oxidative stress) and subsequent free radical damage caused by exercise and training, and also help support a healthy immune system.

Why did you use plastic?
To create the most convenient nutritional solution possible – they chose plastic to make the product easily portable and unbreakable.  Plastic is also optimal for stabilizing the formula on the shelf, in your backpack, or anywhere else.

Are mix1 bottles recyclable?
mix1 bottles are a #5 recyclable and can be recycled anywhere that plastic bottles are collected including thousands of curbside recycling programs nationwide.  In addition mix1 bottles are made from polypropylene which emits less green house gasses and creates less solid waste to produce than PET (#1 and #2 recyclables) bottles.  They encourage you to recycle all elements of their packaging.

I have Crohn’s Disease. is mix1 a good option?
Many individuals with Crohn’s have found mix1 All-Natural Protein Shakes to be a convenient option when looking for a meal and/or snack on the go.  mix1 provides superior, all-natural nutrition.

Is mix1 all-natural protein shake suitable for people with hypoglycemia?
They think mix1 is an ideal beverage for hypoglycemia because of its protein and fiber content.  however, depending on your condition they recommend that you consult your physician prior to usage.

I’m diabetic. can I drink mix1?
mix1 is suitable for many diabetics.  Their combination of carbohydrates, protein, and fiber make this a suitable product for most diets.  The grams of each of the macronutrients in the All-Natural Protein Shakes equal 2 proteins, 1 fat, and 3 carbs.  The Lean Performance Shakes also combine carbs, protein and fiber and have only 7 grams of sugar.  However, as every diabetic has his or her individual needs, they recommend that you consult your physician prior to usage.

I take daily vitamins. can I still drink mix1?
Yes!  mix1 can be safely taken with your daily supplement.

How much fiber should I have per day?
Health experts recommend that the average woman should consume 25 grams of fiber per day, and the average man should consume 30 grams of fiber per day.  These numbers go up as a persons size goes up.  Most people do not get nearly enough fiber.

What's the difference between soluble fiber and insoluble fiber?
Soluble fiber gets absorbed in the bloodstream and therefore gets spread throughout the body providing a broad spectrum of benefits including heart health, blood sugar balance, lower cholesterol, and digestive health. Insoluble fiber remains in the digestive tract, and therefore only provides the singular benefit of digestive health.

Why isn’t fiber listed on the label of your products?
The FDA considers fiber a processing agent rather than an ingredient, and therefore it does not show up as a separate ingredient on their label.  The fiber in their product is included in their “natural flavors”.

Are there probiotics in in mix1?
No, there are no probiotics in whey protein. However, their soluble fiber in mix1 acts as a prebiotic, which helps to create a suitable environment for probiotics to flourish.

How does mix1 achieve the three servings of fruits and vegetables in its products?
mix1 achieves its servings of fruits and vegetables based on its ORAC value.  ORAC stands for “oxygen radical absorbance capacity."  Foods that “score” high in ORAC are believed to be helpful with fighting disease and promoting healthy aging.  A serving of fruits/veggies has approximately 500 ORAC.  mix1 all-natural protein shakes and lean performance shakes have over 1500 ORAC, an ORAC equivalent to three servings of fruits and veggies.  They always want you to eat fresh broccoli and blueberries when you can to get your ORAC covered, but when you cannot, mix1 can help!

How much ORAC should I get per day?
The FDA says that you should get 9 servings of fruits and veggies per day.  A serving of fruits/veggies is equal to 500 ORAC.  Therefore, you should get 4500 ORAC per day.

What is ORAC?
The USDA (US Departmnet of Agriculture) developed ORAC to measure the Antioxidant capacity of foods.  ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity, and values how much a food can absorb free radicals.

What is a free radical?
Free radicals are molecules that have oxidized, meaning they can degrade tissue and alter the immune system.  Free radicals can be caused by physical (i.e. – exercise) and mental stress, fried foods, sugar, etc…, and can lead to health problems, sickness and disease.  Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals, or render them useless.

Why are antioxidants important?
Antioxidants help offset inflammation and absorb free radicals in the human body.  Free radicals can break down healthy cells and potentially lead to a variety of health problems, sickness and disease.  Athletes are prone to free radical damage due to constant exercise and training.  It is important to get antioxidants in order to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals.

What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants are scavengers that neutralize free radicals before they get a chance to harm your body. They get their name from their ability to inhibit oxidation. There are lots of different substances they call antioxidants, including many vitamins and minerals, and antioxidants are found in a number of foods including fruits and vegetables.  Antioxidants have been shown to have a host of benefits which include helping to fight cardiovascular disease, many types of cancers, and supporting overall cognitive health.

How long will mix1 stay fresh?
By using a combination of premium ingredients, innovative packaging, and pasteurization, they're able to make a great-tasting product that stays fresh (even at room temperature!) for twelve months! The special bottle mix1 comes in allows us to heat mix1 to a temperature that prevents any contamination. It goes into the bottle hot and is sealed immediately, protecting mix1 from any contaminants that might otherwise get into the bottle while it cools. This ensures the maximum product safety and stability, as well as best possible ingredient integrity and taste.

Can I drink mix1 warm or do I have to refrigerate it?
Yes, you can drink mix1 warm or cold (it tastes better cold), as it does not require refrigeration.  However, they do recommend that you refrigerate the product once it’s been opened if you do not finish the whole bottle.

What’s the difference between mix1 and an energy drink?
Most energy drinks contain artificial ingredients, little or no protein, no fiber, and lots of sugar and caffeine to provide energy.  mix1 products have all natural ingredients, a balanced carbohydrate to protein ratio, vitamins & minerals, fiber, and antioxidants and provide sustained energy and optimal nutrition pre and post exercise.

So, I can use this for breakfast, right?
mix1 is great for those times when you’re running out the door and you don’t have time to stop for breakfast. It is designed to sustain your energy for a several hours before you feel hungry. While they recommend taking time to eat regular, well-balanced meals as frequently as possible, mix1 can help when you’re short on time.

Is mix1 a good meal replacement?
For most of us, 200 calories (90 calories for Lean Performance) doesn’t equal a complete meal. However, mix1 can be used as a light meal replacement or a great, well-balanced snack. They find that many people like to have a mix1 along with a piece of fruit, a sandwich or a handful of almonds – yum!

Is mix1 a weight loss product?
mix1 products were designed to provide optimal nutrition before and after a workout, however while their products were not initially designed to be weight loss aides they can be a great addition to any diet.  The balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber in both of their product assist in increased metabolism and satiety.  Their Lean Performance Shakes are just 90 calories, compared to the 200 calories in their All-Natural Protein Shakes, making them a better option for weight management.

Is this really for people who want to gain weight?
mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake is not designed as a weight gain or weight loss product. In fact, if used properly, mix1 can help maintain healthy weight and curb food cravings, assisting in better overall health and sustained energy.

Is mix1 certified Kosher?
No, mix1 is not certified Kosher at this time.

The 200 calories in the All-Natural Protein Shake seems like a lot. Why so many?
As part of an overall healthy, balanced diet, mix1 fits perfectly with most health and wellness goals.  mix1 is a moderate source of calories when you compare it to many other options.  mix1 is rich in protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins & minerals, and unlike most other protein shakes mix1 is completely all-natural.

Is mix1 vegan?
While there is no legal definition for the term “Vegan” and no established FDA guidelines, a common definition for a vegan is “a person who does not eat animal products, including meat, fish, seafood, eggs, and dairy.”  By this definition, mix1 is not vegan as the whey protein in their products is dairy derived.

Is mix1 casein-free?
Yes.  All mix1 products are completely free of casein.

Is mix1 gluten-free?
Yes.  All mix1 products are completely free of gluten.

Is mix1 lactose-free?
Yes.  They use lactose free whey protein in their products making them completely suitable for people with lactose intolerance.

Is mix1 pasteurized?

What is carb to protein?
The human body needs both carbohydrates and protein to perform optimally.  Carbohydrates provide your body with energy, and protein provides your body with blood sugar stability.  Carbs and protein are also essential in helping your body recover after a workout.  The 2:1 carb to protein ratio in mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake provides several hours of balanced, sustained energy.  The 1:1 carb to protein ratio in mix1 Lean Performance provides ample fuel for shorter, less intense workouts.  Higher ratios of carbohydrates to protein (i.e. – 15:1) will lead to a spike in blood sugar followed by a crash and lack enough protein for optimal post-workout recovery.  Inverse ratios (i.e. – 1:4) are inefficient because your body must convert protein into carbs in order to give you energy and/or help your body recover after a workout.

Why is the carb count so high in mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake?
Carbohydrates are necessary for energy, and when balanced out with protein and fiber, they're essential for sustained energy. They believe that the carb count in mix1’s All-Natural Protein Shake is ideal for active people to support their energy needs before and during a workout.  After a workout, carbohydrates are necessary for muscle glycogen restoration (carbs).  Many other workout shakes are low in carbohydrates forcing your body to break-down muscle tissue in order to restore glycogen which is extremely inefficient.

How much mix1 is safe to use?
mix1 can be used one to several times per day for adults. Kids may find they won’t want an entire bottle in one serving, depending on their age. If you wish to serve mix1 to children less than three years old, please consult your pediatrician.

Is mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake suitable for kids?
mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake is suitable for kids, however  depending on their age and size it may be necessary to give them a smaller serving than that which is appropriate for an adult.  Protein dosages are generally done by weight.  According to the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences 1 gram of protein should be consumed per 1 pound of ideal body weight.  However it is best to check with your pediatrician to get the most accurate answer regarding how much your child should consume per day.

Why does mix1 All-Natural Protein Shake have 22 grams of sugar?
Every ingredient in their All-Natural Protein Shake has an important function, and is there for a reason. The organic sugar they use in mix1 contributes to its 2:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein.  Before or during a workout the carbs in mix1 provide energy, and the whey protein isolate provides blood sugar stability.  After a workout the combination of carbohydrates and protein are ideal for both glycogen restoration (carbs) and muscle repair (protein).

What is the source of sugar in mix1?
They use organic cane sugar as the natural sweetener in all of their products.  Most sugars used in similar products are either not organic, are highly refined (like high-fructose corn syrup) or include artificial sweeteners.  They believe in going natural and that using organic sugar is the best way to naturally sweeten a product and to support their environment as well as your body.

Are there any preservatives in mix1?
no. mix1 is absolutely free of any artificial ingredients, including artificial preservatives.

Why do you use whey protein isolate rather than soy protein in mix1 products?
They use premium quality whey protein isolate for its superior digestibility and usability by the body.  Whey protein isolate has the highest biological value of all proteins, which means it’s the most effective protein in terms of absorbability into the body.  It is free of lactose, fat, and cholesterol and is the richest source of the eight essential amino acids and branched chain amino acids for energy and vibrant health.  Other forms of protein, such as soy and blends, have a much lower biological value meaning your body does not digest and utilize the protein as efficiently.  Additionally, many people have trouble digesting soy so whey protein isolate offers an option that suits most diets.

Can you use mix1 before a long run? How about during?
mix1 is perfect before workouts because the organic cane sugar provides a readily usable carbohydrate for quick and sustained energy.  The protein, fiber and fat allow the carbs to be burned steadily and efficiently over several hours.  In addition, if you are out for the day hiking or skiing, or participating in interval sports (tennis, weight lifting, etc) then mix1 is an ideal way to maintain your energy. For longer endurance sports you may need something in addition to mix1 (or an additional mix1 serving) to sustain you for the duration of your activity.

Mix1 History & Mission
What do a naturopathic doctor/ironman triathlete who spent some time living in a Nepalese ashram, a Ted Nugent loving beer guy, and a golf-obsessed reggae freak have in common?  They are the three founders of mix1, and they have a lot in common. They all live in, or around, beautiful Boulder, Colorado, they all have families, they are all athletes, and they are all committed to being as healthy as possible.  It's these similarities that brought them together to start mix1.

Colorado is a great setting for all of their favorite sports: skiing, hiking, golfing, climbing, running, etc... They created mix1 because they wanted something that would help them do all the activities they love to do, and improve their performance. They also wanted something that was healthy and all-natural. Since they couldn't find anything in stores that met their needs they decided to make something ourselves. The result is their mix1 enhanced protein shake formulated by Dr. James.

Their philosophy here at mix1 is pretty simple: they only create products with all-natural, high-quality ingredients that are truly functional. They believe all-natural products are better than artificially enhanced ones. Their overall goal as a company is to promote athletic performance and overall health, be an asset to their community and improve people's lives.

They hope you enjoy their products as much as they do.
