Emerita Feminine Hygiene 100% Natural Cotton Classic Contour Unscented Pantyliners - 30 Panty Liners

The vagina is a delicate ecosystem, give it some love. Most pantyliners are made with plastic coversheets and synthetic fillers. Choose Emerita 100% Natural Cotton Pantyliners that are pure, breathable cotton. Emerita Pantyliner's 100% Natural Cotton naturally wicks away moisture and allows airflow to your delicate parts. Emerita's pantyliners are 100% Natural Cotton, which means lower risk of vaginal irritation. Organic means pesticide-free. Chlorine-free means free from dioxin, a known carcinogen. Fragrance-free means no chemical perfumes. And itch-free and hypoallergenic mean less risk of irritation.

Emerita's Ultra Thin Pantyliners are individually wrapped and specifically designed to guard against leaks. Emerita's Classic Contour Pantyliners are a ¼ inch wider and absorb four more grams of liquid than other natural brands. Why aren't all pantyliners made this way? Emerita doesn't know. Women deserve a choice, because what you put next to your skin matters.

That’s why Emerita has introduced 100% natural cotton pantyliners. Both the coversheet and absorbent core are nothing but 100% natural cotton. That’s great, because cotton has long been lauded for its natural breathability and its ability to wick moisture. And Emerita's cotton is not chlorine-bleached. That’s important because chlorine-bleaching processes can leave behind trace levels of dioxin, a known carcinogen.
It’s important to read labels even when comparing other natural brands. For the most part, most natural pantyliners contain wood pulp filler, which is absorbent, but is simply not naturally breathable cotton.

Why are so many conventional pantyliners made this way? Emerita doesn’t know. But Emerita thinks it may have to do with a lot of conversations that aren’t happening: conversations where consumers ask questions. After all, when was the last time you or your friends talked about which pads you use? Quite possibly never! This silence is understandable. As a society, we’ve been conditioned to be embarrassed about our periods.
Look How Far We’ve Come…
In the early days of disposable pads shopping, stores featured drop-boxes where women could place money so they wouldn’t have to speak to a clerk or take a box of pads from the counter themselves. Back then, it was a wash-and-wear world where feminine hygiene was really about old cloths and pins. Then mid-century brought the advancement of the belt, famously lampooned in this Tina-Fey-penned Saturday Night Live skit. Let’s face it: Nobody loved the belt ;)

The latter part of the 20th Century brought a flurry of advancements in feminine protection, but not always with consideration for protecting a woman’s delicate vaginal balance topmost in mind. Some brands of pads and pantyliners began incorporating super-absorbent additives to help them absorb more while staying as thin as possible. Kind of like disposable baby diapers. They also incorporated plastic material in their coversheets. You started seeing decorative inks and designs, kind of like with paper towels. Chemical perfumes were added, too. All of this likely had many benefits in terms of making the products more appealing to consumers. But the conversation seldom came up about what these materials meant for women’s bodies.

Needless to say, that’s a lot of plastic material close to your skin—in a place of the body that’s happiest when it gets to breathe. If women do experience irritation, a study by Harris Interactive showed they’re likely to assume it’s a yeast infection, as opposed to wondering whether it could be from some chemical exposure, or from lack of breathability.
Today, the conversation is changing again—finally—as women are becoming more aware of the health benefits of natural cotton. Emerita hopes you’ll not only learn more about our products, but that you’ll also find the spirit to help your daughters, sisters and friends learn about the benefits as well.

Thank you for helping Emerita carry on their mission of “improving the health and lives of women.”

You wouldn't wear plastic underwear so why wear a pad that's not natural?
What you put next to your skin matters. Pad/pantyliner packaging is not required to list ingredients, so it can be hard to know what your pad is made of. Many store brands contain plastic coversheets, wood pulp filler or other materials that are not breathable cotton.

Emerita Pads and Pantyliners are:

  • 100% Natural Cotton - means it's nothing but cotton goodness. Cotton is breathable, absorbent, and wicks moisture well.
  • Chlorine/Dioxin-Free - means you keep chemicals away from your most delicate skin.
  • Fragrance-Free - means no chemical perfumes.
  • Hypoallergenic - means less risk of irritation.

Why aren't all pads and pantyliners made this way? Emerita doesn't know.

Dioxins, Plastics, Perfumes? Doesn’t it make you just itch to know what your pantyliner is made of?
Introducing the new age of products designed from a women’s health perspective. Many pantyliners you’ll find on store shelves are made with super-absorbent chemical additives, and many feature plastic coversheets as well. This may be nice for enhancing absorbency. But you wouldn’t wear plastic underwear, so why wear a pad that’s not natural?

It’s a conversation whose time has come, as more women are learning to question what their feminine care products are made of… as well as what that exposure to chemicals and synthetic materials may mean for themselves, their friends and daughters.

Many women use pantyliners daily. So, particularly if you’re a young woman, you have many, many years of potential chemical exposure ahead of you. The average woman will have periods for about 38 years, and she may use pantyliners far beyond her menstruating days for normal vaginal discharge or light incontinence. More research is needed to understand the potential health impacts of this ongoing exposure.

And it can be hard to know what your pantyliners are even made of in the first place because most pad and pantyliner packages don’t list ingredients. In short, you may know more about what’s in your shampoo or toothpaste than what’s in your pantyliner.

Emerita's starting a revolution...a feminine hygiene revolution, that is!
Choose products that are made with your health and best interest in mind. Why aren’t all tampons and pads made that way? Emerita doesn’t know. Learn more—and help Emerita spread the word!

When Emerita did their homework on the feminine hygiene industry they were shocked. And then they were outraged. Why had nobody warned women what tampons were made of? Why have women been exposing themselves to irritation-provoking pads and tampons over years and years of periods? Why is nobody talking about this? It’s time that women know about feminine hygiene products. Tell your mothers, sisters, daughters, granddaughters and friends—what you put in your body matters!

Emerita is championing this cause full force… by introducing products that are made with women’s health in mind…and by launching an education campaign encouraging women to really think about what they’re buying—and why. Emerita is introducing a line of 100% Organic Cotton Tampons and 100% Natural Cotton Pads and Pantyliners. They’re all chlorine-free, which means they’re free from dioxin, a carcinogen. Plus, they’re made without synthetics and potentially-irritating chemical additives. Just 100% breathable cotton goodness.

Emerita is doing this because their mission is “Improving the health & lives of women.” Emerita is a woman-owned, woman-operated company. That means they're bunch of ladies, and they actually use the products they make on a regular basis. Emerita cares not only about the quality of their products… but also about the quality of their consumer education.

Emerita has never shied away from talking to women about “taboo” subjects, like menopause and sexual vitality, so they're more than ready to tackle the often-undiscussed topics of periods and tampons and pads. About Emerita

Emerita (e-MER-ita) has been a leading brand of natural women’s wellness products since 1978. They’re proud to be women-operated, and their mission is “improving the health and lives of women”—a cause that makes them excited to come to work every day.

In the early days, they marketed natural midlife products through the Transitions For Health catalog and through physicians’ offices. The catalog even appeared in an episode of the TV show Sex & the City. Then in the 1990s, their flagship progesterone cream, Pro-Gest Cream, was first introduced at natural food stores, launching a whole category of natural wellness products for mature women. Since then, Emerita has expanded its offerings to include intimacy, feminine care and health supplements, as well. Today, Emerita products are sold in natural food stores across the country, as well as through many online retailers.

Emerita has long been a socially-responsible company that respects and empowers its employees, while operating in an open and collaborative fashion. Emerita also has a long history as an advocate for women, valuing education about women's health issues.

The Products
For Emerita's products, they use only plant- and mineral-derived ingredients whenever possible. When these options aren't available they utilize research from sources such as the European Union, Environmental Working Group, the Breast Cancer Fund, and others for recommendations on the safest stabilizing chemicals available to produce the highest-quality product.

Emerita products do not contain mineral oil, petroleum, phthalates, sodium laurel sulfate, or animal anything. The products are never tested on animals. And aside from their OH Warming Lubricant (which contains honey), they contain no animal products. The cotton used in Emerita tampons is certified organic by the Ethical and Environmental Institute (ICEA). The cotton in Emerita tampons, pads, and pantyliners is cleansed by chlorine-free methods, which means they are free from traces of dioxins from chlorine bleaching.

If Seventh Generation still made panty liners, I would give Emerita only 4 stars, but since I've tried several others and found them wanting (one was like cardboard!) Emerita is the best I've tried since Seventh Generation discontinued their panty liners. These panty liners don't shred like some other cotton ones; they stick very well, and hold all day and night; and they can be worn for two or more days. I highly recommend these 100% cotton contour unscented panty liners.

I have developed an allergy to bleached pads. These are great and have a better adhesive strip than other natural brands.
