    Thayers Through History

1828: Henry Thayer Born. Born in 1828, into one of Massachusetts' founding families, he was trained in the medical arts of his day by his physician father. The company, named Henry Thayer & Company, prospered and broadened its line of products and has been described as the largest manufacturer of pharmaceuticals in America at the time of the Civil War.

1847: Labratory Opened. In 1847, Henry Thayer M.D. opened a laboratory on Main Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts to produce his newly developed line of herbal extracts for sale to the medical profession.

1855: Award Winning Thayers. In 1855, the American Institute of New York awarded Thayers a silver medal for excellence in preparation of fluid extracts. In 1856, the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association awarded the company for the apparatus to produce these extracts.

1875: Published "Descriptive Cataloue of Fluid and Solid Extracts in Vacuo." In 1875, the company published "Descriptive Catalogue of Fluid and Solid Extracts in Vacuo" listing over 800 of its products: herbal based, presented in the forms of tinctures, infusions, syrups, poultices and wines. Prominent among these products was a Fluid Extract of Witch Hazel, listed as a "Tonic, astringent, and sedative; useful in checking hemorrhages and excessive discharges."

1902: Passing of the Legacy. After Dr. Thayer died in 1902, ownership of the business passed to his great niece, Mrs. Joseph Sturdevant. A line of 9 children's remedies were marketed under the brand name "Tots," along with a pile ornament and a line of lozenges including Slippery Elm Lozenges. The next decade saw distribution of the lozenges in the U.S. and Canada in independent drug stores and natural product stores, and the addition of related items, such as Cough Syrup, Nose Drops, Cold Sore Balm and Coughmasters.

1989: Adding Alcohol Free Witch Hazel.
In 1989, alcohol free versions of our Witch Hazel line offered as facial toners were introduced.

2010: Honey-B-Anise Reborn. An updated version of our classic Honey-B-Anise with Bee Propolis & immune boosting Zinc was introduced in 2010.

2012: Organic Certification. Thayers began using Certified Organic Witch Hazel and Certified Organic Aloe Vera in 2012.

2013: Exclusively Grown in the USA. In 2013, Thayers entered into an exclusive agreement with a family farm in Fairfield County, Connecticut to grow Thayers Certified Organic Witch Hazel to be used in their proprietary extract.

2015: Slippery Elm Lip Balm Introduced. A new member was added to the Thayers family of products in 2015 when a line of Certified Organic Slippery Elm Lip Balms were introduced.

2016: Thayers Added Six All Natural Healthcare Remedies. In 2016, Thayers launched a new line of 100% natural Healthcare Remedies. With Slippery Elm and Apple Cider Vinegar as the main ingredients, the line features three categories: Topical Analgesics, First Aid and Allergy.

I love all the Thayer's witch hazel. I buy all of them and change up the scent depending on my mood. Surprisingly to me, my husband said the peach was his favorite scent and he uses it himself. He is someone who doesn't like perfumes or colognes and normally prefers more robust scents and flavors. This scent smells peachy and sometimes peachy can be considered almost sweet or floral. I would not consider it too be too much of either description. It may be slightly sweeter in comparison to the lavender toner, but not in an overwhelming way. I'd recommend this product.

I'm a longtime user of witch hazel. It's how I clean, tone, and treat my skin. I'm glad I took a chance on this peach version on a whim. Not only does it have a refreshing, fruity scent, but it contains a host of other healthy fruit extracts that seem to really refresh and brighten my skin. It's super-charged skin goodness.

I loved this product! It smells yummy and I use it morning and night to tone my skin, then use moisturizer over it. My skin (facial) has definitely improved. When I ran out I got the unscented one because it was less expensive but think will go back to this when unscented runs out.

Thayers' toners are really something. This one has 10% alcohol in it and is great for picking up anything dirty from my pores. Although this has alcohol, it's not drying at all to the skin and leaves the skin slightly hydrated. But I'm taking away two clovers because I found the peach smell really strong and overwhelmingly sweet. I'll forever continue to buy Thayers toners, but not this peach one.

I use the Thayers as part of my skincare regime. I swipe it on prior to moisturizing, or if I don't go out, I just use the Thayers. The scent is fantastic. I Also use it under my arms prior to swiping on the crystal deodorant to add a fragrance component and cleanse any possible odor causing bacteria.
