    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What the heck is collagen?
    A
: Collagen is the protein that holds everything in your body together. It makes up about 30% of all the protein in the human body, and is found in your bones, tendons, ligaments, connective tissues and skin, and plays various roles in your overall health. Collagen production naturally declines with age, reducing the structural integrity of the skin and instigating the weakening of cartilage in joints. You can help make up for decreased collagen production by eating collagen sourced from grass-fed bovines pasture-raised in Brazil.

Q: Why should I eat collagen?
    A:
The collagen protein used in Primal Kitchen Dark Chocolate Almond Bars is collegen hydrolysate from grass-fed cows, which is broken down into individual amino acids and easier to absorb and digest, so it's a preferable alternative to taking collagen in, say, capsule form. Furthermore, it's 100% protein, and people all know the benefits of ingesting clean protein.

Q: Where does Primal Kitchen collagen come from?
    A:
They searched all over the world to find a premium source of collagen from certified grass-fed cows. They found the perfect source in Brazil.

    Q: What is monk fruit?
    A:
Also called Luo Han Goa, monk fruit is a Chinese herb cultivated for centuries by Buddhist Luohan monks. Much like stevia, it's a delicious and natural way to sweeten without all the calories of sugar.

    Q: What are net carbs?
    A:
You determine the net carb impact of a food by subtracting the grams of fiber from the total grams of carbohydrates. Fiber slows the digestion of carbohydrates and reduces the glycemic burden on the body.

    MANUFACTURER INFO

    Primal Kitchen

For 20 years now, owner Mark Sisson has enjoyed a daily 20-ingredient salad made up of turkey, salmon or tuna, sometimes some nuts like almonds or walnuts, along with tons of veggies like bell peppers, broccoli, cucumbers and artichokes. Although he loves his trusty balsamic vinegar and olive oil topping, he's also searched far and wide for healthy and tasty salad dressing alternatives. Unfortunately, they’ve run into one of two scenarios. Either the dressings are laden with industrial seed and vegetable oils like canola, sunflower, corn and soy oils – the primary instigators in all manner of chronic disease – or they boast out-of-this-world health and ingredient claims but tasteless, bland “flavor.” They noticed the same dearth exists in condiments like ketchup, mayo and BBQ sauce. Sure, tasty enough options exist, but they all compromise your health and longevity!

So they set to work cooking up Primal-inspired salad dressings and condiments full of healthful, natural fats, superfoods, antioxidant-rich, high-ORAC-scoring herbs and spices, with no offensive, synthetic vegetable and seed oils and no artificial colors, flavors or fillers! The first product they set out to reinvent was mayonnaise – the holy grail of healthy fats. The complete lack of acceptable mayonnaise in-store today is appalling. Most options contain canola oil, soybean oil, sugar, HFCS, the list goes on. For Primal Kitchen Mayo, they chose to use one of their favorite superfoods – avocado oil – instead of canola or soybean oil. Combine that with organic, cage-free eggs, organic vinegar and salt and they’ve got one awesome tasting mayonnaise! Healthy mayo, who knew?

THAT is the power of food: it can either lead you down a path of disease, pain and despair, or it can lift you up to new heights of wellness and vitality. That’s why Primal Kitchen set out to create the world’s best-tasting, health-enhancing, real-food pantry staples. Nothing processed or artificial, no added sugars, partially hydrogenated or trans fats, soybean or canola oils. No more artificial flavors, colors, dyes, waxes or chemical preservatives. Just. Real. Food.

These are really delicious and have one of the best breakdowns of fibre, protein, & sugar I've found in any bar. They only downside is that they're expensive vs. some other bars, but you get what you pay for!

Bought a box of these to try them out. Very good as they give you an alternative to the other things you might typically end up grabbing in a pinch such as chocolate/candy or those cereal bars that are full of sugar and grains. They do stick to your teeth like nothing I've ever come across so bear in mind if that sort of thing bothers you. Definitely give them a try though. Would buy again!

I specifically bought this because I wanted the protein and the collagen. All the ingredients were perfect for me. What I received was a new version of this product with an ingredient that I cannot have. They changed the recipe and added eggs. I couldn't be more dissatisfied. Not good for anyone that cannot have eggs.
