Frequently Asked Questions

What is the expiration date of my product?
OTC (over the counter) products have an expiration date of 2 years. This information is printed on the primary package (tube crimp), and printed on the unit carton outer package. Non-OTC (aka, cosmetic) products are safe to use for 5 years from the manufactured date. There is a jar icon on each package which communicates the "best used after opening" timeframe. For example 12M, suggests using the product within 12 months after opening.

Does Andalou test on animals?
They share your concern that cosmetics and personal care products should not be tested on animals. Their company policy clearly states that they don ot and will not test their products or ingredients on animals, nor have they asked or allowed others to do so, on their behalf.

Are their products gluten free?
Yes! Andalou products have been tested by the Food Allergy Research & Resource Program (FARRP) on behalf of Celiac Sprue Association (CSA) and are verified to be Gluten-Free. The CSA has evaluated all Andalou Naturals formulations, and confirmed Andalou Naturals are Gluten-Free, meaning they have been tested below the gluten limit of quantitation (BLQ) of 5 parts per million.

Are their products Vegan?
Andalou offers a unique collection of quality personal care products for caring consumers seeking natural, organic, and cruelty-free ingredients within the Vegetarian Ethic. They currently have over 90 vegan products and 100% of their products are vegetarian.

Are their hair products color safe?
Andalou products do not contain sulfates, which is the primary cause of damage to colored hair. Sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate, which are common ingredients in other hair care lines, can strip dyed hair of coloring, fading your hair every time you wash.

Are thier products pregnancy safe?
Their products are formulated to be gentle and safe for personal use. However, should there be any question or concern for a specific ingredient or allergic condition during pregnancy or while nursing, they recommend consulting with your physician for a thorough evaluation prior to use.

What is the pH level of their skin care products?
The pH levels of their skin care products vary between a pH of 4.5-5.5. This range is the "normal" pH range of healthy skin.

Does Andalou use Nanotechnology?
They are happy to inform you that they do not use nanoparticle or micronized particle sunscreen ingredients. Industry definition of nanoparticles is a material measuring less than 100 nanometers, and the definition of micronized is a material measuring between 100 and 200 nanometers.

Founders
Advocating for the consumer is nothing new to Stacey Kelly Egide and Mark Egide, founders of Andalou Naturals. For over 30 years these visionary partners have been creating category defining brands that have changed how the consumer shops for beauty and personal care. In 1989, the Egide’s launched their own start-up with the first meaningful cruelty-free cosmetic line in the US, Beauty Without Cruelty. In 1999, they created Avalon Organics, the first certified organic personal care line and successfully lobbied California to legislate organic standards for personal care products. Through the years their iconic brands including Avalon Organics, Alba Botanica, Alba Hawaiian, Sonoma Soap Company, Un-petroleum and The San Francisco Soap Co. have become household names for natural product enthusiasts.

Andalou Naturals, the first Non-GMO Project Verified beauty brand, is the ultimate culmination of their many years developing meaningful policy and healthy products partnered with their deep commitment to uplifting people and the planet.

The natural products industry embraces and rewards innovation and creativity, while entrepreneurship offers women a level playing field to succeed. For Andalou Naturals, our goal was to build a successful, proactive business and influence an industry to do better, while creating a sustainable source of revenue for socially responsible people and projects.

Lathers way better than other sulphate free shampoos I've used. I don't have to use very much to get a good lather so this small bottle will last me a long time! It's a little sweet Smelling for me and my hubby's taste though. I think it smells like orange slice candies and hubby says it smells like "birthday cake flavored ice cream. I'm going to try a different scent next time.

I find the orange fragrance too strong and even without a conditioner, it's not cleaning my hair as well as I'd hoped -- I'm assuming the rest of the reviewers don't have particularly hard water. There are also a couple of ingredients (Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate) that rate a 3 (moderate hazard) on the EWG site, although they are at the bottom of the ingredients list. That said, it's better than the Aubrey Island Naturals shampoo I was using (the last bottle stopped cleaning my hair), so I still might have a conversation with Andalou and see if one of their other formulas might work better for me. There's not a whole lot out there to choose from, that fits my criteria for both ingredients and price range.

I have thick, naturally curly hair. This shampoo smells great and I really like how it cleans my scalp. A lot of natural shampoos for curls don't do a great job on the scalp. Also makes my curls extra bouncy!
