Frequently Asked Questions
How often do you need to wash your Yoga Mat?
Depending on the type of practice, how much you sweat, and personal preference, they recommend washing your mat every 1-3 uses. If you choose to not wash your mat, still hang it after practice to dry out.
Why are Yoga Design Lab products eco-friendly?
Their Yoga Mats are made of a biodegradable, recyclable 100% natural tree rubber base and microfiber top. They are free from latex, silicone, toxic glue, and phthalates. Their Towels are also made of a sustainable microfiber. Their Eco Mats are a sustainable memory foam that is free of phthalates, latex, metals, harmful toxins, and SGS Approved. All of their inspirational designs are printed with non-fade, water based inks. Their bottles are made of a double-walled stainless steel and are certified free from BPA, phthalates, hormones, lead, and other harmful toxins. All their products are also vegan-friendly.
Why are you slipping?
At the beginning of practice, if your hands and feet are dry, they do recommend lightly spraying the mat with a little water or just wetting your hands/feet. This will help engage their special wet-grip feature before your body heats up. During a super sweaty practice, the mat could reach its absorbency capacity. If you see any puddling, just use a small hand towel to remove the excess and grip should return.
Why is my towel slipping on my mat?
Their towels are 100% microfiber and work best atop common sticky mats, rubber mats, and textured mats. Washing and tumble drying your towel will help to remove any creases from packaging and lay flatter as well.
Why does this mat have an odor?
If your Yoga Design Lab mat has a mild odor, just place it outside or in a well ventilated space to air out. You can also give it a quick wash with light detergent and water. Your mat should not have a strong odor.
About Yoga Design Lab
Great Design + Technical Innovation + Impeccable Quality + Sustainability
The idea for Yoga Design Lab started while company founder, Chad, was on vacation in Bali. Chad was seated in the back of a packed class at the well-known mecca for yoga, Yoga Barn. Looking around, all he saw was a sea of unoriginal, massed produced, solid colored yoga mats. His thinking was, there must be a way of creating a highly functional product that was also aesthetically beautiful. The inspiration grew and he knew he wanted to design mats that would make more people excited about practicing yoga.
So the journey began. Long story short, he sold his stuff, packed up a couple bags and moved to Bali with the goal of creating a line of yoga accessories that would inspire people around the world.
Blending fashion-forward design elements with innovative functionality and bio-renewable consciousness is key to the Yoga Design Lab approach. From their insulated stainless steel water bottles (reduce your use of plastic water bottles please!), to their hot yoga mats comprised of biodegradable natural tree rubber, to the water based inks used in their printed designs, they can all make a difference with the products they buy.
