Frequently Asked Questions

What is Herbatint?
Herbatint is a permanent hair colourant gel with a natural herbal base that contains no ammonia, but will cover grey 100% and can lighten you hair up to 2 shades.

Will Herbatint cover my grey?
Herbatint covers grey 100% on its first application. If you are 25% grey or more remember to mix your chosen fashion shade (gold, copper or mahogany) with the appropriate number from the natural series. For instance target shade 6D (Dark golden blonde) with 6N (Dark blonde). For 30% grey mix 1/3 6N with 2/3 6D. For 50% grey, or more mix ½ 6N with ½ 6D. Some grey hair can be particularly resistant.

I have had chemotherapy treatment and would like to color my hair.
Herbatint has many customers who have had cancers and have used the colorants quite safely. They would not recommend use of permanent colors in these cases, but if you are determined to color your hair it is far safer to use Herbatint as it contains no ammonia and deposits far less potentially hazardous substances into the blood system.

I am pregnant and I have been told that permanent hair colors can be potentially dangerous for my unborn child.
Again, as with cancer sufferers Herbatint would not recommend the use of permanent hair colors while pregnant. However, many of their customers do use the colors in these instances; Jane Leeves the actress from the T.V. programme 'Frazier' has openly claimed that her hairdresser used Herbatint on her hair while she was pregnant. no ammonia means far less of the product finds its way into the blood system.

Can I use Herbatint on my beard?
Herbatint is not recommended for use on facial hair, however, they do know many customers who use it very successfully for this purpose. Avoid swallowing any - it tastes disgusting! Do not use on eyebrows, or eyelashes.

I have had allergic reactions to ammonia tints in the past; will I react to Herbatint?
In practice, they have found that approximately 85% of people who have reacted in the past do not react to Herbatint. With no ammonia present very little of the product penetrates the epidermis and consequently does not enter the blood system. However, they still strongly advise performing a skin test prior to tinting your hair. A small number of people have allergic reactions to all kinds of substances.

The History of Herbatint

Herbatint is the main brand of Antica Erboristeria and was founded in 1970 following a brilliant intuition of its founder, the herbalist Michele Albergo, who focused his research on a coloring formula that could combine product efficacy with hair and skin health. Thanks to his outstanding knowledge of medicinal herbs, starting from formulations based on herbal extracts, he progressively reduced the percentage of chemical ingredients, including hydrogen peroxide.

I have natural golden blonde hair which was accidentally darkened by a Moroxylyn Balsamum so to try to correct the issue I used this as my lightening agent. Initially I was a bit nervous because it went on a blue black color, however; do not worry because it does not turn your hair that color. In fact it was much lighter than I was expecting it to go. Obviously it only over lightened the roots, because of the aforementioned Moroxylyn issue. If you had dark blonde/light brown hair this would turn your hair a gorgeous natural looking strawberry blonde/light golden blonde color. My hair it took to an extremely light blonde and though it was perfect for my darkened hair it was great; for my roots too much. I would suggest to anyone with a golden dark blonde/ lt brown to expect it to go much lighter, like golden straw. However, since; you can mix your own formula by mixing with another tint as well it could be easily corrected and perfected. It is easy to use and apply so great buy!

Finally, the right color! Just the right shade of red for natural look and it's sulfate-free. Not too red and not too blonde. Looks very natural.
