Good Fats, Bad Fats and Your Health
Dietary fats have gotten a bad rap for some time, but the truth of the matter is that we humans not only like the taste of fat, we also need it - to supply energy and aid in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins.

The Problem with Fat
But as useful as fat may be to your body, many clinical studies have clearly demonstrated that diets high in cholesterol and saturated in fats are associated with a higher rick of heart disease and some cancers.

Good Guys vs. Bad Guys
Equally true, recent clinical studies have shown that some fats are bad for your health while others can actually be good for you. Dietary fat is essentially made of three kinds of triglycerides: saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Research has demonstrated that limiting the saturated fat and increasing monounsaturated fats can be beneficial - hence the description "good" fat. Omega-3 and Omega-6 are two kinds of polyunsaturates that, if consumed in the right ratio, appear to be health promoting.

How Much is Enough?
Nutritional guide-lines recommend no more than 30% of your calories come from fats. Your challenge is to make sure most of these are monounsaturated or polyunsaturated "good" fats. 10% or less of your total calories should be from "bad" or saturated fats. That's a maximum of 20 grams per day. Considering that one cup of a premium ice cream, Nature' Plus can wallop you with 23 grams of saturated fat, you have your work cut out for you.

What's Good About Nature's Path's Flax Plus?
Each 30g serving has 5g of fiber, making Flax Plus a high fiber source. Low fat diets rich in fiber-containing grain products, fruit and vegetables may reduce the risk of some types of cancer, a disease associated with many factors.

What's So Good About Certified Organic Goodness:

Nature's Path Manifesto
Nature’s Path lives for healthy, great-tasting organic foods. It’s why they get up in the morning. But Nature's Path is also a company that wants to do more than just sell breakfast foods. Nature's Path aspires to advance the cause of people and planet, along the path to sustainability. And Nature's Path likes to think they put their money where their mouth is. Or rather, where their heart is. Because growing organic, healthy foods in a sustainable way is Nature's Path's passion—the cornerstone of their family company. It’s where, and how, it all began.

But Nature's Path also knows that when it comes down to it—no matter what kind of a difference they want to make as a company, and no matter how much you share those values—if Nature's Path's food isn’t delicious and exciting, they’re not living up to their fullest potential.

Healthy foods don’t need to be boring and tasteless. Which is why Nature's Path spends their days and nights dreaming up new recipes, tracking down exotic new ingredients, and researching the latest (or most ancient) superfoods. Nature's Path knows you’ll be pretty impressed when you read their labels. But Nature's Path hopes you’ll be even more impressed when you take your first bite.

About Nature's Path Organic

It has been said, “You are what you eat.” What we eat is directly transformed into blood, bones, skin, muscle and consciousness. So, where does the food we’re eating come from? Nature’s Path believes food, organically grown, is better for you and better for the environment. Organic foods contain no preservatives or additives, and are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides which agribusiness typically sprays onto our food. These chemicals can then find their way into the soil, water, air and eventually our bodies. Just as eating wholesome organic food helps to make healthy bodies, organic farming helps make healthy soil and a healthy planet.

I have been eating Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Multibran Cereal for around five years. Not only is it important that I eat breakfast, but as a Type 2 diabetic, it is also important that I choose foods that are low in added sugar. This cereal fills that bill. Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Mutibran Cereal is one of the healthiest cold cereal choices on the market, in my opinion. It is an organic cereal that uses flax as a main ingredient and is rich in fiber, plus it is low in calories and very filling. After I add a bit of a granulated bran cereal as a topping and a half cup of skim milk, my day is off to a healthy start!
