Power-Packed Nutritious Food Supplements
Garden of Life is fanatical about food. They're different that way. Whether they're making a vitamin, or a probiotic, or a protein powder, they always start with real foods and these (foods) provide their formulas the power to be the best. They're different that way, too. The synthetically created, chemical “breakthroughs” from huge commercial laboratories around the world are not for Garden of Life. Let the other guys sell those “supplements.” No thanks.
As fanatical as they are over what goes into the products, Garden of Life is even more obsessed about the things they keep out of them. They hate those synthetic chemicals that most companies use to make their products. This stuff makes machines work faster, and helps factories churn out super-sized containers at higher “efficiency.” Well, while the other guys spend their time preoccupied with their efficiency, Garden of Life is uncompromising about your health. Slow it down, make it by hand, grow it in rich organic non-GMO soil with enough sun, air, water and time for it to be its best. Harvest it when ready. Treat it with care. Turn it into a power-packed nutritious food supplement. That's what Garden of Life is about.
Three Principles Guide Garden of Life:
1. The Science of Whole Food
Your body was created to eat, process, and derive its nutrition from food-real, healthy food. So, when Garden of Life creates their products, they start by looking at food. What is the “good stuff” in the highest quality food that we are missing in our diets? Which of those foods have the greatest potential to impact-and empower-extraordinary health?
2. Clean is Healthy
Garden of Life starts with what goes IN their products-true, whole food ingredients. But they don't stop there. They also pay very close attention to what they keep OUT of them. And once again, they look at food-real nutrition food. When is the last time you picked up an apple, turned to read the ingredients, and saw a list of chemicals? If it's not in your food, then they don't want it in their supplements. They use the third-party (never self-affirmed) certifications to prove they are clean!
Traceability is key to what makes Garden of Life's products so special. Traceability starts with knowing where each and every ingredient in their products comes from and getting to know each and every source: where it's grown; the farming practices; how they pay and treat the farm workers-everything. Just look at the formulas. They believe it is important to start with Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified fruits and vegetables that are grown without chemicals. Garden of Life wants to get the good stuff from foods that are grown without any of the bad stuff. They do it because it's the only way they know to deliver on their promise of Empowering Extraordinary Health.
What it Means to Be Clean
Building a clean supply chain is tricky because many materials appear clean. But as you get closer, you find they're not really clean. A truly “clean” product begins with truly clean ingredients or raw materials. As a Health Food Shopper, you want the assurance that your foods are clean, pure, and organic without artificial additives. However, there is a great deal of noise in the marketplace today that makes it difficult to find the clean truth. Independent, unbiased, third-party certification and verification provides your best option for that assurance. Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified seals offer Garden of Life's most credible means of substantiation.
To attain Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified status, every ingredient must be traced back to its origin, which means tracing back to organic crops and family farms and also how and where it's manufactured. Developing a fully traceable raw material supply chain is a massive, complex undertaking-especially considering some formulas could have over 100 different ingredients. It's no easy task, but it's totally worth it. Garden of Life is committed to producing Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified supplements. They also use unbiased third parties such as Vegan.org, NSF, Kosher and Informed-Choice whenever possible.
USDA Organic Certified
The Certified USDA Organic seal ensures that the entire product contains 95 percent or more certified organic content, delivering the highest quality products to you-because USDA organic standards are set high and enforced from start to finish, every step along the way.
By definition, the USDA Organic seal means:
No genetically modified organisms, or GMOs
Zero antibiotics or growth hormones
No synthetic fertilizers
No prohibited pesticides
No sewage sludge
Adherence to animal health and welfare standards
100 percent organic feed
Giving animals access to the outdoors
Specific soil and water conservation methods
Non-GMO Project Verified
Having their products verified by the Non-GMO Project is paramount to Garden of Life's mission. The Non-GMO Project is North America's premier third-party verification program for Non-GMO. It's a non-profit organization to help preserve a Non-GMO food supply and to give consumers an informed choice and to ensure that we have safe, healthy food. Just because a supplier says it's clean doesn't mean it doesn't contain GMOs. That's why independent third-party verification matters. To date, there's no organization as competent or experienced as the Non-GMO Project in the audit of the full raw material supply chain and the verification of GM avoidance in the ingredient.
Vegan is defined as: no animal or animal by-products to include flesh, bones, dairy, eggs, honey, fur, leather, wool, down feathers and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals. Vegan Awareness Foundation requires that products approved to carry the Certified Vegan Logo must:
not contain meat, fish, fowl, animal by-products (including silk or dyes from insects), eggs or egg products, milk or milk products, honey or honey bee products.
involve no animal testing of ingredients or finished product by supplier, producer, manufacturer or independent party.
provide supplier verification that animal products were not used in the manufacturing of ingredients.
contain no known animal-derived GMOs or genes used to manufacture
ingredients or finished products.
Companies must submit and have approved by the Vegan Awareness Foundation that acceptable steps are taken to thoroughly clean and sanitize all surfaces, vessels, utensils and machinery used between vegan and non-vegan production cycles to minimize cross-contamination if shared machinery is used.
Certified Gluten Free
NSF International completed a survey of nearly 1,000 American consumers and found that 68 percent don't realize dietary supplements could contain gluten. Wheat is often used as a filler in dietary supplements. This is why it is important to look for “gluten-free certified” products that undergo robust auditing, testing and certification. NSF International has a science-based gluten-free certification program and has tested and certified 73 different dietary supplements, including probiotic products. Known as “The Most-Trusted Name in Food Safety” and recognized by regulatory agencies at the local, state, federal and international levels, the NSF certification mark means that the product complies with all standard requirements.
NSF Gluten-Free Certification ensures that companies have a gluten-free compliance plan and undergo onsite inspections of their production and handling facilities, during which time accredited inspectors test products to confirm gluten-free integrity of 20 parts per million (ppm) or less, while ongoing audits verify that procedures are in place to prevent contamination or comingling. In addition, the inspector verifies that the company is conducting the appropriate raw ingredient testing or that raw ingredients are being sourced from an NSF International certified gluten-free supplier.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy. LEED certification means healthier, more productive places, reduced stress on the environment by encouraging energy and resource-efficient buildings, and savings from increased building value, higher lease rates and decreased utility costs. In fact, 88 of the Fortune 100 companies are already using LEED.

One-quarter to one-third of all domestic waste is packaging and much of it is difficult to recycle. At Garden of Life, they are intentional about using 100% recyclable packaging-as well as printing with vegetable ink-as much as possible. It's a standard they are committed to for their products, their consumers and for our Earth.
Printed With Soy Ink
Soy ink is a kind of ink made from soybeans. As opposed to traditional petroleum-based ink, soy-based ink is more environmentally friendly, might provide more accurate colors and makes it easier to recycle paper.
Post-Consumer Recycled Bottle (PCR)
Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic is derived from an end product (such as a clear PET water bottle) that has completed its lifecycle as a consumer item and would otherwise have been disposed of as a solid waste product. Post-consumer plastics include plastics that have been collected in commercial and residential recycling programs.
FSC - Forests For All Forever
FSC is an independent, non-profit organization that protects forests for future generations. FSC is an open, membership-led organization that sets standards under which forests and companies are certified.
