Nature's One Baby's Only Baby's Only Organic Toddler LactoRelief Formula - 12.7 oz (360 g)

Natures One Baby's Only Organic Toddler LactoRelief Formula is the ONLY organic milk-based formula that is intended for babies who are lactose intolerant and offers an alternative to parents who wish to avoid soy protein in their baby’s diet. Lactose intolerance is commonly related to a person’s ancestry. For example, lactose intolerance is experienced by of over 90% of Asians and Native Americans; 75% of African Americans; 50% of North American Hispanics; and 10% of European Americans. Lactose intolerance can also occur after an illness where diarrhea occurs or is caused by a genetic disorder.

Nature's One organic commitment assures only organic and natural ingredients with no artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, genetically modified ingredients, chemical processing like hexane solvents, pesticides or added growth hormones. Baby's Only Organic formulas are manufactured in the U.S.A. and its milk protein is purchased from organic family scaled farms. No milk protein or dairy derivatives are purchased from China.

Quality Organic Nutrition
Nature’s One recognizes the importance of providing your baby with the highest quality formula possible. Our company sets its ingredient standard beyond “organic” by sourcing only the best organic ingredients, including milk from organic family farms. Parents should be aware that other organic formulas use less desirable ingredients like organic corn syrup, organic palm olein oil and hexane processed DHA. Rest assured that Baby’s Only Organic® will never contain these ingredients.

The Best Organic Start
Breast milk is the best organic choice. Baby’s Only Organic® is labeled a toddler formula to promote breast milk as the best first option. Following breast milk, parents can continue providing organic nutrition using Baby’s Only Organic® formula. For a baby less than 12-months, use as directed by a healthcare professional.

Meets FDA Nutrition Requirements
In 1980, the U.S. Congress passed the Infant Formula Act, a law that defines the nutritional requirements for infant formulas sold in the United States. Baby’s Only Organic® does meet the nutritional requirements according to Infant Formula Act. Baby’s Only Organic® is manufactured in the U.S.A.

What is lactose?
Lactose is a carbohydrate. It is often called milk sugar because it is the primary carbohydrate found in breast milk and other mammalian milk such as cow’s milk. It is a disaccharide, meaning that it is made of two monosaccharides, glucose and galactose.

What is lactose intolerance?
When an infant, child or adult is unable to digest lactose, this is referred to as lactose intolerance. This occurs because the enzyme used by the body to digest lactose, which is called lactase, is either absent or has declined. Without lactase, lactose cannot be broken down into glucose and galactose. The lactose cannot be absorbed by the intestinal wall into the bloodstream like glucose and galactose and, thus, the lactose remains in the intestinal tract. The bacteria in the intestinal tract then use the undigested lactose which produces a large amount of gas. The symptoms of lactose intolerance include stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, gassiness and diarrhea .

Are there different types of lactose intolerance?

There are three types of lactose intolerance:

  • Congenital Lactase Deficiency which is a genetic disorder where the body does not produce the enzyme lactase. This type of intolerance will occur at birth.
  • Primary Lactose Intolerance which occurs when infants, children and adults live in non-dairy consuming environments and are not exposed to the lactose in dairy products. The body has reduced its ability to make the enzyme lactase.
  • Secondary Lactose Intolerance occurs after certain gastrointestinal diseases where the production of lactase is disrupted. Common causes of temporary secondary lactose intolerance are gastroenteritis, particularly the gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus and acute diarrhea.

The first two types of lactose intolerance, congenital lactase deficiency and primary lactose intolerance, can be related to a person’s ancestry. For example, over 90% of Asians and Native Americans are lactose intolerant; 75% of African Americans; 50% of North American Hispanics; and 10% of European Americans.

How is lactose intolerance diagnosed?
Usually when an infant is lactose intolerant, symptoms (cramping, nausea, gassiness, fussiness, bloating) will occur soon after feeding the lactose containing product. If there are questions as to whether the infant has lactose intolerance or intolerance to cow’s milk protein, a physician can perform a hydrogen breath test to determine if the infant has lactose intolerance. Stools can also be tested for malabsorbed carbohydrate. If questions still remain, an intestinal biopsy can be performed.

What is the treatment for lactose intolerance?
For a baby with lactose intolerance, a lactose-free formula, such as Baby’s Only Organic® Lactose Free or Soy Formulas, will be recommended.

If lactose intolerance is temporary due to a gastrointestinal upset or diarrhea and the infant is being breastfed, breastfeeding is usually still recommended. However, a lactose-free formula may be needed to supplement the baby occasionally until the baby’s digestive system is again producing enough lactase to digest the lactose in breast milk. Consultation with baby’s healthcare professional and/or a lactation consultant should be sought to ensure that breastfeeding is not negatively affected. If an infant is being solely formula fed, a lactose-free formula, such as Baby’s Only Organic® Lactose Free or Soy Formulas, will usually be recommended in these situations.

If an infant has been diagnosed with a congenital lactase deficiency, a lactose-free formula, such as Baby’s Only Organic® Lactose Free or Soy Formulas, will be recommended throughout the infant and toddler years and a lactose free diet will usually be needed.

For all ages: to ensure appropriate nutrition, do NOT exceed recommended water to powder ratio. Mix according to chart and directions unless otherwise specified by a healthcare provider.

  • Pour desired amount of water into bottle then add a level, unpacked measuring scoop/cup of powder. Warning: Do not use a microwave oven to warm formula.
  • Cap bottle; shake well until powder is completely dissolved.
  • Feed immediately. Discard leftover formula after feeding or formula that is unrefrigerated for 1 hour or longer.

  • Cover prepared formula and refrigerate; use within 48-hours to preserve vitamins.
  • Cover opened can with lid and store in a cool, dry place; use within one month of opening.
  • Store unopened cans at room temperature; avoid extreme temperatures.

Nature’s One® recommends that parents resist switching their baby's diet from breast milk to milk once s/he reaches that 12-month benchmark. Rather, offer Baby's Only Organic® as a beverage throughout the day to provide the energy needed to support an active toddler. Cow and goat milk fail to provide the complete nutrition and critical fatty acids as found in Baby's Only Organic® toddler formulas. Baby's Only Organic® is recommended up to 3-years of age.

For infants less than 12-months, use Baby's Only Organic® as directed by a healthcare professional. Nature's One® believes it is best to consult a health care professional before making any changes to an infant's diet. While acknowledging a baby's medical history, a healthcare professional is in the best position to discuss nutritional options that meet your baby's specific needs. Baby's Only Organic® meets the nutritional requirements of the FDA's Infant Formula Act. We suggest that you print our nutritional comparison chart and present it to your doctor.

Supplementing Breast Milk
Occasionally mothers who are breast feeding need temporary help supplementing their breast milk. Baby's Only Organic® can be used to supplement breast milk as directed by a healthcare professional. For all ages, mix according to label instructions to ensure appropriate nutrition.

Mixing Cereals
When mixing cereals or other foods for your baby, Baby's Only Organic® is perfectly suited at any age. Just follow the mixing instructions on the label, and then stir into cereal or food to achieve desired consistency.

This was the only formula my baby would drink after being breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months of his life. Only wish it was a bigger container so it could last a little longer!

After much research on which formula to use for my 3 month old, Baby's Only Organic is the only one that doesn't use Hexane in their products.
