The Problem
Food sensitivities (or intolerances) consist of an adverse reaction, sometimes delayed, to a food or compound found in food which is often the result of an enzyme deficiency. Enzyme deficiencies not only prevent the complete digestion of specific compounds commonly found in food groups, but also results in the symptoms associated with food intolerance. Lacking the required enzymes for digestion also contributes to an inability to properly digest the nutrients in these food groups. The symptoms of food intolerance usually affect the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and the skin. Symptoms most commonly observed with food intolerance consist of nausea, constipation, gas, diarrhea, skin rash or hives, mucus production, congestion and cough.
Enzymes Provide Support
Our body uses enzymes to enhance digestion and turn the food we eat into energy. Produced throughout the digestive tract and available from raw foods and supplements, these enzymes include: amylase for carbohydrates, lipase for fats, protease for proteins, and cellulase for fiber. Like tiny shears, enzymes help break down the foods we eat leaving particles small enough to provide nutrition to the cells after they enter the bloodstream. In addition to aiding digestion, some enzymes provide additional support to the body by eliminating harmful toxins and by-products.
Food Intolerance: A Common Sign of Impaired Digestion
Poor food choices, constipation and various health challenges can lead to impaired digestion, a widespread cause of food sensitivity. "Undigested food particles in the intestine can irritate and potentially damage the bowel wall," shares Ellen Cutler, M.D., whose Mill Valley, California practice caters to patients with digestive distress. "Given time, this irritation may reduce our digestive capacity and influence the absorption process."
Dr. Cutler has over 20 years of clinical experience treating digestion and allergy-related conditions, and is the author of the best-selling book, MicroMiracles: Discover the Healing Power of Enzymes.
"Taking a daily enzyme supplement can create the foundation of a healthy digestive process," continues Cutler. "A product containing a full spectrum blend of all four key enzymes is considered an ideal digestive aid."
Digest Spectrum™ combines multiple strains of amylase, protease, lipase and cellulase with specialized enzymes for gluten, phenol, dairy and casein digestion to provide a complete solution for children and adults dealing with multiple food sensitivities.
Use in Combination with Special Diets
Reducing or eliminating the foods which trigger digestive problems is a key part of managing food sensitivities. While special diets are helpful to those with impaired digestion, dietary modification used in combination with enzyme supplementation provides peace of mind and complete spectrum digestive support.
About Enzymedica: The Enzyme Experts
Enzymedica's Mission:
Enzymedica is dedicated to providing exceptional enzyme-focused supplements at the most therapeutic levels available in the natural foods industry and beyond. It is their commitment to provide unprecedented education and research that propels individuals on the path to vibrant health.
In the spring of 1998, Enzymedica was born. The role of Enzymedica is to offer the public the most effective enzyme products available. They utilize the expertise of doctors, researchers and clinicians in formulating each of their products. They are proud of what they have to offer the public, namely therapeutic enzyme supplements that have been health professional proven.
Enzymedica's entire focus and purpose is enzymes. They are the experts. Unlike most of their competitors, Enzymedica does not make vitamin supplements or herbal cleanses. All they manufacture are the highest quality, highest potency enzyme products available.
Enzymedica products are Health Professional proven. Enzymedica products contain the highest therapeutic activities available. No other company uses higher active units in a multiple enzyme line. In addition to a digestive enzyme that is on average three times stronger than their competitors, Enzymedica has a therapeutic digestive enzyme blend, a carbohydrate digestion and allergy assistance blend, a blood purifier, and a fat digestion and cardiovascular product.
Enzymedica is proud to be GMP Registered through NSF International. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are guidelines that provide a system of processes, procedures, and documentation to assure the product produced has the identity, strength, composition, quality, and purity that it is represented to possess.
NSF International helps protect you by certifying products and writing standards for food, water and consumer goods. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, NSF's ongoing public health commitment is to encourage everyone to live safer. The NSF GMP Registration for contract manufacturers and internal manufacturing facilities of dietary supplement companies enables contract manufacturers to become independently registered by NSF as complying with GMP requirements as listed in Section 8 of NSF/ANSI Standard 173-2006. NSF's Dietary Supplement Standard is updated to keep pace with FDA GMP regulations.
Enzymedica uses an exclusive Thera-blend process for its protease, lipase, amylase and cellulase. This means that each of these enzymes actually represents multiple strains. For example, there are actually four proteases in the Thera-blend protease. They are blended for their ability to break down numerous bonds of protein in varying pH levels. Enzymedica does this at a considerable expense. From a label description Enzymedica also sacrifices active units to provide the best blend possible. A single protease, for example, could produce more active units per milligram than a multiple protease. However, the active pH would be narrow and the number of protein bonds it could break would be limited.
Enzymedica products are 100% vegan and vegetarian. Enzymedica uses no fillers in any of its enzyme formulations.
You will no doubt notice how small the capsules are in comparison to similar products. This is a result of using concentrates with no fillers.
Research Efforts
Enzymedica continues to research the therapeutic effectiveness of plant based enzymes through doctors and clinicians. Currently, the company is coordinating and funding research that is ongoing. Enzymedica has every batch third party tested. This ensures they always meet label claim.
Suggested Use
Take 1 capsule at the beginning of every meal is usually sufficient for most sensitivities. 2 Capsules may be taken as desired.
Warnings
Please keep out of reach of children.
