Amy & Brian All Nautal Coconut Juice - 17.5 oz. (520 ml)

Amy & Brian Coconut Juice is a natural isotonic beverage that is high in potassium and other electrolytes. Great for any active lifestyle, it is an effective rehydration beverage for before, during or after exercise. Made from the water of young coconuts, Amy & Brian Coconut Juice doesn’t contain the added sugar or artificial additives found in other sports drinks.

Coconut juice is nature’s sports drink. In addition to tasting great, coconut juice is the healthy choice. It has more potassium per equivalent serving than a banana, is lower in natural sugar & calories than most fruit juices including grapefruit and has 10% of the sodium found in tomato juice. It absorbs into the body quickly because it resembles plasma in its salt concentration.

Coconut Juice is a Healthier Sports Drink

Research by Rabindarjeet Singh from the Sports Science Unit at the University of Malaysia has shown that fresh young coconut water is an effective tool for rehydration during and after exercise. The research, which was described in a 2004 research paper, showed that the rehydration rate of an athlete ingesting coconut water was similar to that of an athlete ingesting a sports drink. “The perception of taste is different before, during and after exercise. The athletes preferred the taste of the coconut water,” said Rabindarjeet, who added that “the price of coconut water is generally cheaper than a sports drink.” Consumption of coconut water caused less nausea, fullness and no stomach upset. It was also easier to consume a larger amount of coconut water compared with carbohydrate?electrolyte beverage or a sports drink.

    Nutritional Highlights

    • Coconut juice has more potassium per equivalent serving than a banana.
    • Coconut juice is lower in calories than any popularly consumed fruit juice including grapefruit juice, and has 10% of the sodium found in tomato juice.
    • Coconut juice, unlike other tropical juices, is alkaline so it doesn’t upset the stomach.
    • Coconut juice is low in natural sugars, containing about half of that found in orange juice and less than a third of grape and pineapple juices.

    Coconut Juice Health Benefits
Historically coconut juice has been known to:

    • Help restore the body’s electrolyte balance because it resembles plasma in its salt concentration.
    • Act to normalize body temperature.
    • Promote urinary tract health because of coconut juice’s anti?bacterial properties.
    • Help treat kidney and urethral stones.
    • Reduce intestinal disturbances in infants.
    • Aid digestion.
    • Act as a gentle diuretic.
    • Promote healthier skin.

    Coconut History
It is likely that the coconut originated in East Asia, probably in Melanesia, (the SouthwesternPacific) where it exists in great variety. The pods, which are the seeds, float and they wereprobably dispersed around the Pacific Islands by ocean currents. The seed with all that fiber andoil was the perfect botanical boat.

The word is a combination of the Portuguese for goblin shell and the English word "nut". The coconut is mentioned as being in East Africa in 60 A.D. There is speculation that it was brought there from Madagascar.

The first English language reference to coconut was 1555. Coconuts were eaten in Egypt in the 6th century AD and Marco Polo found them in India and other places in Asia. A 1770 recipe for coconut puffs from a South Carolina cookbook includes grated coconut, butter, sugar, eggs and rose water.

Food historians believe coconuts were not indigenous to the Caribbean islands where they
became a staple, but were probably introduced by Europeans. There is general consensus that the coconut landed in the U.S. after an 1879 shipwreck off Palm Beach washed up a cargo of coconuts and the seeds sprouted en masse. The town gets its name from the coconut trees that grew there. Coconuts were not known in Hawaii before the 19th century.

Today the coconut is the most extensively grown and used nut in the world and the most
important palm. It is an important commercial crop in many tropical countries including India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, The Philippines, and Brazil, contributing significantly to their economies.

This is absolutely delicious! At almost 100 calories, you have to watch your servings but I have a sweet tooth and love coconut, so this really hits the spot. It has been a really nice treat after a hard workout and offers a lot more than your average "sport drink". Love it!
