Grape Extract (Vitis vinifera): Every part of the grape, including the seed, is loaded with powerful antioxidants. For this reason red grape extract is included in the BerryRich formula to widen the antioxidant and may be responsible for the French paradox wherein lower rates of heart disease are found in France, a country of red wine enthusiasts.
 
Bilberry Extract (Vaccinium myrtillus): Bilberry is a European cousin of the blueberry that has its own unique spectrum of active ingredients. World War II pilots were on to something when they insisted that bilberry jam on their toast helped them see better during their night missions.
 
Pomegranate Extract (Punica granatum): This fruit is gaining worldwide attention because of its unique antioxidant profile. Recent research shows that as little as 50 mL or 1.7 ounces of pomegranate juice per day can be helpful for cardiovascular ailments such as oxidative stress, atherosclerosis, and hypertension. A study in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that daily intake of pomegranate juice could prevent thickening of the arteries and slow down cholesterol oxidation by almost half. Another study revealed that pomegranate juice could increase blood flow to the heart in patients with ischemic coronary heart disease.
 
Strawberries (Fragaria vesca): These heart-shaped red berries are filled with healthful vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other phytonutrients that may help ward off heart disease, cancer, macular degeneration, rheumatoid arthritis and age-related cognitive decline.
 
Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum): Research shows that blueberries do help vision and eye health but they can also slow aging, help cognitive decline, lower cholesterol, fight cancer, and help inhibit urinary tract infections. Why can the blueberry help with all these varied health conditions? Primarily it is due to anthocyanins, the phytochemicals responsible for their deep blue colour.
 
Red Raspberries (Rubus idaeus): The red raspberry is known for its sweet but slightly tart fruit that becomes plentiful in summer. Studies reveal that red raspberry fruit contains substances that may help prevent cancer, reduce heart disease, ease inflammation, protect against age-related macular degeneration, and prevent overgrowth of some bacteria and fungi such as Candida albicans.
 
Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon): Cranberries are high on the ORAC scale and may help protect against chronic age-related conditions. They contain vitamins A, C, B and folic acid, as well as calcium, iron and potassium. There are also substances in cranberry that open blood vessels, and when blood vessels in the bronchial tubes are dilated, breathing is easier. Cranberries contain significant amounts of flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds that inhibit low density lipoprotein oxidation, offering a natural defense against atherosclerosis. Cranberries are most well-known for their ability to help prevent urinary tract infections.
