Navitas Naturals Golden Power Goldenberries Certified Organic

Goldenberries (also known as Gooseberries or Incan berries) have been enjoyed for their health properties in South American cultures for thousands of years, and with their unique sweet and tart taste, these berries are not to be forgotten any time soon. Nature’s version of a “Lemonhead” candy, Navitas Naturals Goldenberries make a delicious snack that is nutritionally packed with anti-inflammatory bioflavonoids, vitamins A and C, and protein. Eat this exotic raisin straight out of the bag, or give a recipe that calls for dried fruit a new, zestful boost.

    Source and Processing
Navitas Naturals Goldenberries are grown in beautiful Columbia on the small Goldenberries shrub. Only the finest vine-ripened berries are selected for harvest, where they are naturally sun-dried to a moisture level of approximately 15%, to retain a soft and chewy texture. Goldenberries contain carotene and bioflavonoids (vitmain P). They are an excellent source of vitamin A and good source of dietary fiber. For a fruit, they possess a high content of protein and phosphorus. Natitas Natural 100% pure Goldenberries are certified organic, kosher, gluten-free, vegan, and raw. They do not contain any added sugar or preservatives.

Goldenberries (gohl-duhn-ber-ee) a fruit of the herbaceous perennial Chinese lantern Physalis peruviana, P pubesscens, or P. edulis, resembling a small yellow/orange cherry with a pulpy pericarp in which the seeds are embedded.

    Golden Superfruit
Originally cultivated thousands of years ago in the Incan Empire, these dried berries have enjoyed a huge resurgence of popularity in markets around the world, due to their unique taste and remarkable health benefits. Also known as “Incan Berries” or “Cape Gooseberries,” Goldenberries grow in warm climates on a type of small but resilient bush, where natural paper hulks resembling Chinese lanterns delicately cradle the small golden fruit on the inside. Once harvested, the berries are sun-dried, developing a robust and complex citrus-like flavor that is appreciated by everyone from gourmet chefs to children.

    The Power of Goldenberries
Not your average dried fruit, flavor-packed Goldenberries also boast an excellent nutritional profile. The fruit is best noted for its high amounts of carotene and bioflavonoids (vitamin P) -- nutrients which studies have shown to produce anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity (among many other benefits). Goldenberries are also an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and contain a good amount of dietary fiber and pectin. Unlike most fruits, Goldenberries also contain protein and phosphorous.

    Sweet N’ Sour Satisfaction
With the sweetness of a raisin, the zing of a tart citrus zest, and a taste that is all around “golden,” Navitas Naturals Goldenberries are an incredible culinary experience. Fantastic eaten straight out of the bag, Goldenberries inherent complex flavor also makes them an excellent pairing food for artisan edibles such as chocolate or wine. Alternately, this fruit makes a special addition to desserts, muffins and baked goods, trail mixes, jams, and all the recipes of your imagination!

Goldenberries have been grown all over the world: From the plant’s native Brazil, to far-reaching areas including Central and South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, California and Hawaii. It comes as no surprise then, that the variety of names for the goldenberry is as prolific as the soil it grows upon. They are labeled “cape gooseberries” in Africa, “poha berry” in Hawaii, and have a number of folk names including “ground cherry” and “husk cherry.”

The berries are a little too tart and bitter for me. I hide a few in my smoothies. I will not be able to eat these plain.

These are really sour- but if you love sweet tarts or cry babies these are the fruit for you. This price seems like a lot, but it's a good $5 cheaper than I can get it around here. Also, consider that you're buying a dried product, which means you're not paying for the water in the fruit. Like, maybe it takes three pounds of fresh fruit to make one pound of dried (I made these numbers up, but you get the point). One of my favorite foods, next to chocolate.

Goldenberries are really gooseberries, and they are very tart. I can't eat a whole lot at a time, but mixed with mulberries and goji berries they are fine. These are great high quality berries.

I"m excited to share my positive feedback regarding Navitas Organic Goldenberries. I use them in my daily breakfast of fat free "Fage" greek yogurt, flaxseed meal, raw steel cut oats, ground cinnamon and either blueberries or banana. I get natural sweetness, low calories, little or no fat and a lot of energy to start my day. Being Type2 diabetic, means that I must realistically control my morning carb distribution. The above breakfast, along with low sodium V-8 gives me a tremendous and healthy boost to start my busy day. Navitas Naturals, along with many other vitamin supplements and teas that I have used over the years, have all been purchased through Luckyvitamin.com and I could not be more satisfied with the quality of and ease and dependability in dealing with, the aforementioned website.
