Inside your physical body, today, right now, you carry the future. Pregnancy is a progressive adventure. A time of profound inner and outer growth. It is a time to deepen your experience of who you are and how you are intricately connected to every other living being on earth. Birthing Mama is designed to be your companion during this transformational time, offering you six gems each week to support you in deeply nourishing yourself and your growing babe.

    Welcome!
Birthing Mama is an offering from the heart, to support your pregnancy in being as transformational for your inner self as it will be for your outer self. We invite you to go through each offering, within each week, from a state of openness, curiosity, and awareness. Hold yourself with love and compassion and go to the places within yourself where you feel guided to go. The inspiration to create this online companion came as guidance for Corinne Andrews, the founder of Birthing Mama, when she was pregnant with her daughter, her second child. She was guided to offer expectant mothers a framework for experiencing their pregnancy as a sacred and transformative life event.

As you go through the program, we invite you to try what resonates with you, and skip what doesn’t. The intention has been to include a diverse array of resources and ideas from various perspectives and traditions. You are invited to develop your own relationship to inner guidance as you move through the weeks by noticing which of the offerings awaken a feeling of joy, which challenge you, which trigger fear, and which lead to a sense of openness and adventure.

Each week you will receive six offerings, or gems, that you will be able to navigate as you please, by entering the link in the email you receive in your inbox for that week. The first will be a themed narrative with inspiring considerations related to your body, mind, and spirit. This will set a tone and context for the week.

Birthing Mama recommends that you consult with your care provider before making changes to your physical or nutritional regimen. While the program contains suggestions that are a wonderful complement to the pregnancy journey, you and your care provider should always determine what is best for your health.

The yoga sequences have been carefully chosen to address many common pregnancy-related symptoms, as well as to help prepare you for labor and childbirth. You will be introduced to movements and postures that strengthen, relax, and open your body, as well as bring deep integration and wholeness. Each yoga sequence can be practiced on its own or you can link sequences together and practice without the video once you have learned them. With the sequences designed as they are, you will learn the practices enough to feel empowered to create your own flow when you are at home and want to practice yoga.

You will notice that these sequences do not include most inversions, arm balances or very strenuous postures. If you practiced these for at least one year before becoming pregnant, it may be okay to continue practicing these as long as it feels right for your body. However, it is not appropriate or necessary to teach these (especially to beginners) through video during pregnancy. Please seek out a teacher in your local area to learn these types of postures.

You will also see at the end of each yoga sequence that we will ask that you return your pelvis to neutral before taking final rest. As you move through these guided practices you will get used to seeing these neutralizing postures and practicing them. Birthing Mama encourages you to use them both on and off the yoga mat to help you find stability within your changing body. We highly encourage you to take savasana/final rest pose at the end of each yoga practice. In general, the longer the practice, the longer savasana should be but it would be wonderful for you and your growing babe if you could take a minimum of 5-10 minutes of rest each time you practice. There is no maximum limit on the length of the resting time. Savasana gives your body a chance to deeply integrate your practice on the cellular level, so that you can reap more of the healing benefits.

After you purchase Birthing Mama, in the welcome video you will see the props that are recommended for practice as well as the various options for final rest. Traditionally, savasana is done lying flat on your back. As you move through your pregnancy this may become increasingly uncomfortable. Lying on your left side allows for optimal circulation for both you and your baby and is a wonderful alternative position for back lying savasana.

The recommended products are a yoga mat, two blocks, a bolster, one or two blankets and a square cushion. You may also want a physio ball and a chair for a few of the videos. While these props will make you more comfortable, you do not need to have all of these things, as you can always improvise as needed. Yoga props can be bought at any local yoga studio. LuckyVitamin also sellsYoga Mats, Yoga Accessories, and Exercise Balls.

    Corinne Andrews writes,

"As a child, I always knew that I wanted to be of service. I knew that I was here on this earth to "help" people and in elementary school I told my friends that I was like a computer and they each had their own disk that they could put in and it would store, hold and support their feelings and secrets.

During high school I became interested in alternative and higher states of consciousness and in college met the path of yoga. At the age of 19, I began to let go of usual teenage distractions to dive deeper into yoga and holistic health. My life had been permanently changed. The teachings and practices of yoga and other spiritual paths have been deeply healing and transformational, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share the teachings that I have received. I am honored to witness and support my students as they move within their bodies, exploring the many dimensions of physical being.

In my yoga classes and private sessions you will find a devotional, safe and loving environment in which to travel deeply into yourself, exploring the vastness of the inner self and the many layers and systems of your body. Moving with prana and breath as our guide, we explore flowing sequences as well as slow, deep holding of postures. We find the breath, and meditation in their many expressions. Experience a practice of deeply feeling and looking within - through reverence and curiosity. All levels, ages and abilities are welcome and modifications are always available.

The experience of pregnancy, birthing at home with midwives and raising children have been incredible teachers for me, and it is out of love and learning that I offer prenatal yoga, parent and baby yoga and little kids yoga. My children are truly my greatest spiritual teachers.

When not practicing or teaching yoga I can be found in the garden growing beautiful organic veggies and herbs, making herbal tinctures, healthy meals and snacks in the kitchen, caring for & spending time with my family, walking my dog in the woods, cleaning (yes - I love a clean and sparse home), bonding with women friends, practicing yoga nidra or meditation, journaling, enjoying music and movement, reading and creating & manifesting various visions! And trying to make more time to both dance and meditate!

The first Yoga Teacher Training that I took in 2001, had "Teach to Learn" as its motto. There is much truth and humility within this statement - as it is through sharing and teaching these incredible practices, that a whole other depth of discovery takes place for me!"

    Testimonials
Corinne was such an important part of my pregnancy. Her yoga sessions were an oasis and something I counted on for peace and balance each week. Not only was the practical teaching important for the well being of my growing baby, and myself but her offerings gave me wonderful mental and emotional support as well.
    -- Meredith

Corinne's prenatal yoga classes were the best part of being pregnant! Each week I had an activity dedicated to my wellbeing to look forward to--one that nurtured my body, mind, spirit, and my growing baby. Corinne is also a master at fostering community, and after only a few weeks in her class I found I had plenty of mom-to-be friends with whom I could connect. Corinne's yoga classes are challenging yet nurturing, and I love how she weaves in such important tips, advice, and poses to use during labor--and I actually used these tools during my son's birth. Corinne has a great understanding of a pregnant woman's aches and pains, and she offered me great relief to some of my pregnancy woes.
    -- Amanda Goldfarb

Corinne's prenatal yoga class helped me to become part of a community of pregnant women, while also strengthening my spirit, body, and mind in preparation for childbirth and parenting. I had a wonderful birth experience, and I tribute much of it to practicing yoga throughout my pregnancy and learning tools to stay relaxed and focused throughout intense sensations of childbirth.
    --Rachel Goren

During my labor and birth I was faced to make a big decision. It was a really hard decision but all I could hear in my mind was Corinne saying, "trust". I trusted that our decision was for the best. Not what I had planned for the past 9 months but I trust that it was the best decision we could make for our family. I still had the rush of adrenaline and beautiful birthing tears when I heard him cry for the first time, I still used my yogic breathing when my heart rate was rising (I was getting scared during surgery) and when my blood pressure started dropping. So thank you for that. I was up and walking by the time they were ready to move rooms 3 hours after surgery and I am mending well. Again, I thank you for that! I keep saying to everyone who is shocked at my "state" only 5 days after surgery..."It's because of Yoga!" I even got out of the hospital 2 days early!
    --Julie R.

We had a boy on March 19th  and I am so grateful that I took Corinne’s classes. I struggled very much in the pushing phase because I was so exhausted and discouraged. However, I found the place to push into by remembering a class in which we practiced the concept of rooting into the earth. It helped me in my most intense moment of pushing his head out. Without that visual and previous practice I would have continued to struggle. I also drew GREATLY upon the sounding techniques. Understanding and knowing which vocals would bring the baby down fueled my confidence in the opening phase. Thank you for the work you do, it taught me in my most intense moment that I am in a spiritual world connected to eons of women performing this task. My homebirth was beautiful.
    --Ali

Thanks Corinne, for creating Birthing Mama, I signed up right away! What wonderful and amazing work! Women are going to just love this! It's professional and deep and intriguing, loaded with useful and pertinent info.
    --Monique Gauthier, midwife

There are lots of books and online programs that will tell you how your baby is developing and what you should or shouldn't do, but none of them are as comprehensive or holistic as Birthing Mama. I love the yoga videos, recipes, and self-care tips. Life is so busy! This companion is a powerful way to really connect and be present to the journey that is pregnancy. I think it is especially great for mamas who are already busy chasing around a young child and don't have as much time to focus on this pregnancy the way that they could the first time around. It's definitely worth every penny. I just wish she had some postnatal yoga videos to help me remember how to nourish myself now that my baby is born!
