The Benefits of Fresh Goat's Milk
Rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, fresh goat's milk is Mother Nature's greatest contribution to health and beauty. Working closely with the goats, Canus is constantly developing new ways to use their magical milk to nourish a healthier, softer, more natural world.

The beauty of fresh goat's milk, explained.
Ever since Cleopatra filled her bathtub with it and jumped in, fresh goat's milk has been revered for its superior moisturizing properties.

Little did La Belle Cleo know that the reason fresh goat's milk left her skin feeling silky smooth and supple was because of its unique protein structure.

Shorter protein strands allow for easy absorption. A whole host of natural minerals and vitamins in fresh goat's milk are absorbed right along with all that protein, helping to nourish healthy skin and heal the rough patches.

WAIT.

IT GETS BETTER.

Fresh goat's milk also contains capric and caprilic acids that naturally balance the alkalinity of their products so that it more closely matches the ideal alkalinity level of the human epidermis.

This keeps skin and hair from being "stripped" of their natural moisture - a common problem with regular commercial soaps and shampoos. Of course, their mission at Canus is to take what they know works and make it work even better. they're constantly researching and developing new, all-natural fresh goat's milk lotions and soaps formulated with the additional benefits of natural oils and botanicals like Orchid, Marigold and even Olive Oil. All skin, even "special needs" skin, can benefit from their Canus Original, Nature by Canus facial wellness, and Li'l Goat's Milk for children lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes fresh goat's milk an exceptional moisturizer?
The protein strands in fresh goat's milk are shorter and therefore more easily absorbed by the skin. Fresh goat's milk also contains capric and caprylic acids that help balance the alkalinity of human skin. Goat's milk is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Where do you get your goat milk from?
They work with a cooperative of family farms throughout Canada in order to source their fresh goat's milk. The farm families are committed to raising their goats using the most humane methods possible - paying particular care to the diet and nutritional needs of their goats.

Are Canus products dermatology tested?
Yes, Canus products are dermatologist tested and recommended for dry-skin irritations such as Eczema, Psoriasis and Acne.

Are Canus products all natural?
Yes, all Canus products are all-natural. They also source organic ingredients from sustainable sources whenever possible.

Do Canus products contain parabens?
No, their products do not contain parabens. (Parabens are chemical preservatives that lengthen shelf-life. There is evidence that they may interfere with natural hormone function.)

Do your products and bottles have phthalates in them?
No - not in the product nor in the packaging. Recent studies in laboratory rodents indicate phthalates may cause changes in hormone levels, birth defects and compromise organ function.

Why is fresh goat's milk better than powdered?
Fresh goat's milk retains its skin-nourishing nutrients and vitamins. Products based on powdered or dehydrated milk are heated so high that during the dehydration process the structure of the reconstituted milk is changed, decreasing its effectiveness. That's why they only use fresh milk in all of their products.

What kinds of goats supply milk for Canus products?
There are six different breeds of dairy goats: Nubian, Alpine, LaMancha, Oberhasli, Saanen and Toggenburg

Where do the goats live?
The female goats (does) that supply Canus with their nutrient rich milk live on family farms all across Canada.

How many goats does Canus rely on every day?
40,000!

Are the goats well taken care of?
Yes, the farms that supply their milk are inspected regularly to make sure the goats are happy and healthy.

How do you milk the goats?
The goats are machine milked. They actually enjoy it. It is a very gentle procedure that relieves the doe from the pressure of a full bag. They are also fed grain and hay as they are milked. It's really a favorite time of day if you're a goat.

Do goats smell?
The males do! The does do not have as strong a scent.

How much milk per day does a goat produce?
Most goats produce 3-4 quarts a day. Overachievers can produce up to 7 quarts.

Does a goat have to be pregnant to give milk?
Yes, does (female goats) need to be bred and have kids in order to produce milk.

It all started with a bar of soap. And a goat.
Way back in 1994, two friends from Montreal decided the world would be a whole lot softer if more people washed with soap made from fresh goat's milk.

Thus began Canus and in just a few short years, their original triple-milled bar grew into the second largest selling soap in all of Canada.

Andree Falardeau and Andre Beauregard figured they were on to something.

Pretty soon Canus was making fresh goat's milk body wash, fresh goat's milk moisturizer, fresh goat's milk body butter and foot scrub. The entire line was made with farm fresh goat’s milk. It is still the same today.

All in all, there are now more than 70 Canus Goat's Milk and Li’l Goat's Milk products. Plus their newest Nature by Canus facial wellness line.

Andre stayed in Montreal and continues to lead Canus' Canadian operations while Andree jumped the southern border.

After establishing American headquarters in Vermont, she quickly built up Canus' U.S. distribution.

Today the charming Canus goat illustration smiles back at customers from the shelves of major mass retail and drug store chains, supermarkets and specialty stores throughout the lower 48. Of course, none of this could have happened without the thousands of dedicated, hard-working goats and the family farms that take such good care of them and deliver their milk to Canus.

Ultimately, the Company's success will be defined not only by how much product they sell but also by how they make it and by how many people's lives get better along the way.

This means continuously improving their sustainability practices and sourcing natural, responsibly grown and harvested botanical ingredients whenever possible.

It also means giving back, and supporting employees who want to make a difference in their local communities. They're very big on volunteerism and fund-raising. That’s why they launched their Canus for a Cure campaign to help patients cope with cancer.

That's the Canus story so far.

There are many more chapters yet to be written and they plan on making each one as fun, interesting and full of promise (and goats) as the first ones.

Have you ever spent quality time with a bunch of does?
If so, you know their compassionate, nurturing nature sets a good example for all of us. Canus is committed to following their lead by getting behind some very worthy causes. The goats also feel a special affinity for those who have cancer and for anyone who has lost a loved one to this horrible disease.

First, they know it affects the whole family, not just the patient. And more practically, they know the toll that radiation and chemotherapy can take on the skin. That's why they created Canus for a Cure™, their very own campaign to do all they can to help people forge ahead in their courageous battles to fight cancers of all kinds.

Canus for a Cure
A little background...

The goats get phone calls and letters from cancer patients with some regularity. They reach out to thank them and share how the Fresh Goat's Milk products have helped.

That's why they created Canus for a Cure, their very own ongoing campaign to do all they can to help people forge ahead in their courageous battles to fight cancers of all kinds. The Canus for a Cure campaign ensures that each year the soothing relief of Fresh Goat's Milk products are placed in the hands of as many cancer patients as possible.

My all time favorite bath soap. My favorite use is in the hot summer, drawing a cool bath and washing up with the creamy, thick lather of this soap. My skin feels clean and fresh, not dry. The most amazing thing about this product for me is the lovely clean scent! It is so fresh and clean, you don't want to rinse it away. I love to keep the bars in my linen closet because the whole closet smells like the soap. You just have to try this good for your skin and your nose soap!

I like the fragrance enough to buy something with "Goat" in its name, in its origins. You could've fooled me -- when a friend gave me Goat's Milk Soap I was hesitant and then.... sold; no goat, no farm nor ANY animal's essence comes through. Just pleasant fragrance. Love it.
