Quality Of Life Labs Cartilast Cartilage & Joint Support - 60 Vegetarian Capsules
Quality Of Life Labs Cartilast Cartilage & Joint Support features ASU (avocado soy unsaponifiables) - a natural ingredient made from avocado and soybean oils that may not only help protect existing cartilage but help rebuild new cartilage - plus joint-supportive vitamins and minerals. A joint is the place where two bones are connected. The bones are covered with a layer of slippery cartilage, which enables them to glide against each other seamlessly. Unfortunately, as we age, the cartilage begins to wear out. The key to healthy joints is healthy cartilage. If you want to look beyond joint comfort and joint mobility, it's important to make sure your cartilage is in good shape!
- Supports healthy joint function with all four ingredients.
- May help protect existing cartilage. ASU may protect cartilage from erosion.
- May help build new cartilage.
- ASU may increase the synthesis of collagen and proteoglycans.
About the Ingredients
Vitamins D3 (cholecalciferol)
Vitamin D is often called the "sunshine vitamin" because the body can synthesize it when sunlight exposure is adequate. However, researchers have discovered that vitamin D insufficiency is surprisingly common, affecting as much as 70 percent of the population. Vitamin D is a great multi-tasker: It strengthens bone by aiding calcium absorption, modulates immune function, protects prostate cells, and boosts brain chemicals needed for positive mood. Vitamins D3 is better absorbed than vitamin D2.
Vitamin K2 (VitaMK7)
Vitamin K is found in leafy green vegetables, olive oil, and miso. It was first recognized for its role in helping blood coagulate, but it is a key player in bone health as well. In fact, vitamin K directs calcium from the bloodstream into the bones, regulates several proteins found in bone, and is though to support bone mineralization. While synthetic vitamin K1 is widely used in supplements, natural vitamin K2 (as VitaMK7) is the most easily absorbed form.
Boron (as bororganic glycine) is used for supporting joint health, for building strong bones, in people with osteoarthritis, as an aid for building muscles and increasing testosterone levels, for supporting muscle coordination, and for promoting health cognition. Boron is believed to increase estrogen level in older (post-menopausal) women and healthy men.
Vitamin D has been produced by life forms for over 750 million years. In humans, vitamin D is vitally important for the development, growth, and maintenance of a healthy body, beginning in the womb and continuing throughout life. Vitamin D's metabolic product, 1.25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol), is actually a type of natural hormone that is the key which unlocks binding sites on the human genome, our DNA. The human genome contains more than 2,700 binding sites for calcitriol; those binding sites are near genes involved in virtually every known major disease of humans.
Quality of Life Questions & Answers
Are their products vegetarian?
Whenever possible. Quality of Life formulates their products to be vegetarian and provides them in vegetarian capsules made from vegetable cellulose. However, many of the most-researched nutritional ingredients are derived from animal products, such as vitamin D3, chondroitin, collagen, and Neptune krill oil. Because of their commitment to clinically efficacious products, when they have to choose between a vegetarian form of an ingredient (such as vitamin D2) or an animal-derived, yet more efficacious form (such as vitamin D3), they choose to prioritize the more scientifically validated form.
Can your products be safely taken together?
In general, yes. Because their products are formulated for specific conditions, there is very little ingredient overlap among them. In some cases, where an ingredient has multiple functions (such as vitamin D), it may be included in several products, but rarely at the upper intake level (the highest level of a nutrient that can be taken ongoing with no side effects). For example, the upper intake level for vitamin D is 4,000 IU and the vitamin D content of Quality of Life products ranges from 400 to 2,000 IU per day.
Are their products safe to use while pregnant/breastfeeding?
As with any nutritional supplement, you should always consult with a health care practitioner when assessing the safety of any Quality of Life product while pregnant or breastfeeding.
When is the best time to take their products?
Some products are best taken on an empty stomach, while others are better taken with food. The very best time to take your supplements is when you remember to take them! When it comes to results, consistency is more important than timing.
Do their products contain any allergens?
Quality of Life complies with the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, which took effect January of 2006 and mandates that any product containing one of the eight major allergens - milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and soybeans - be clearly labeled.
