Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Overnight 14 Maxi Pads

Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Overnight 14 Maxi Pads features secure, no-slip adhesive and a soft, cloth-like cover for comfort.  Now you can get the absorbency and comfort you want in a maxi pad that’s chlorine-free. Their pads are made of a combination of absorbent materials, polyolefins, adhesives, and a silicone-coated paper. The top layer is a non-woven polyolefin cover sheet. The absorbent materials consist of chlorine free wood pulp, and Lysorb, an absorbent gel. Lysorb, also known as SNAP (super absorbent natural polymer), is a polysaccharide derived from wheat.

  • Not whitened with chlorine
  • Safer, cloth-like cover for comfort
  • Reliable protection for overnight or heavy flow
  • Secure, no slip adhesive with wings for best fit

Most pads and pantiliners use abosrbent fibers that have been whitened using chlorine-containing substances which creates dangerous toxins, like dioxin.  Studies have shown a direct link between dioxin exposure in the environment and cancer, birth defects, and reproductive disorders.  The abosorbent fibers in Seventh Generation pads and pantiliners are chlorine free.  They also use a natural absorbent material derived from wheat.  You've made a healthy choice for your body.

Seventh Generation is committed to becoming the world's most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-responsible products for a healthy home. For 20 years, the closely held Burlington, Vermont-based company has been at the forefront of a cultural change in consumer behavior and business ethics.

One of the country's first self-declared "socially responsible" companies, Seventh Generation is a business that operates according to a new and different set of principles and values that in many ways are a marked departure from those long considered "traditional." Its business practice is focused on offering people avenues to express their idealism, passion, and commitment to causes larger than themselves at every point along its supply chain—from suppliers and partners to shareholders, customers and its own staff.

The company derives its name from the Great Law of the Iroquois that states, "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations." Every time you use a Seventh Generation product you are making a difference by saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.

Ingredients

Our pads are made of a combination of absorbent materials, polyolefins, adhesives, and a silicone-coated paper. The top layer is a non-woven polyolefin cover sheet. The absorbent materials consist of TCF (totally chlorine free) wood pulp, and Lysorb, an absorbent gel. Lysorb, also known as SNAP (super absorbent natural polymer), is a polysaccharide derived from wheat. Polysaccharides are complex sugars found in many natural substances, like the fibers of cotton, wood, and wheat.

I like the length of these, and used them for daytime use as a maxi, and the added absorption of an "overnight" didn't hurt on heavy days. However, they still aren't long enough for an overnight for me, just a glorified maxi. I found that after too much use, these and the other ultra-thins in this brand caused irritation, and I switched to a brand that was softer in feel. These do have an extremely plastically-feeling cover (even though they are natural), which I have never liked. I used to use the ultra thin maxis with wings as a direct comparison to the major non-natural national brands. Other than that, I really don't prefer them very much, though I have at times been a repeat customer. It's nice that they have an overnight, and I'd buy in a pinch if nothing else is available, but I have to stop using them due to the irritation. I have an unused portion in my drawer.

Didn't care for how the "wings" worked - very awkward, but like the regular maxi's, even though they're not perfect for my flow needs, they're the best I've come across so far, and like that they are individually wrapped in a plastic-like cover which can be used to dispose of used pads.
