Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub - 3.3 oz. (100ml)

Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub helps ease fatigued muscles with its blend of premium grade ginger root, rosemary, starflower and sweet fennel essential oils. Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub delivers warmth with no overpowering smell to help soothe muscle fatigue. Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub is 98% natural and is easily absorbed, non-greasy and pH balanced. The moisturizing formula used to make Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub conditions the skin and doesn't clog the pores allowing the skin to "breathe".

Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub is used by physiotherapists for massage, but can also be used pre exercise to "warm up" the muscles. Its heat re-activates during exercise so perhaps best to avoid on a warm day. The warmth of the ginger root essential oil in Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub is balanced with sweet fennel and rosemary to create a pleasant subtle fragrance.

Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub contains no parabens, no SLS and no petrochemicals. Ditch that locker room smell and feel good!

    Ingredients

    Superpowered Recovery
Developed by plant and formulation scientists using over 98% natural ingredients, Natural Hero products contain carefully selected premium botanical ingredients that don't compromise your sports recovery needs or the environment.

    Performance + Nature
Tested by athletes and sports physiotherapists for performance, Natural Hero products have also been lab tested in a WADA approved doping control and research laboratory to ensure they contain no banned substances for elite level sport.

Their standard for 'Natural' is defined as "made from a renewable resource found in nature (flora, fauna, mineral).” Their products contain no parabens, no sodium laureth sulphates and no petrochemicals. To find out more about each carefully selected ingredient you can click the list on the right.

What about the remaining 2% ?
There is a big difference between "contains natural ingredients" and products that are as natural as possible. Do not be duped! They are proud that at least 98% of their entire product formulations are natural. They are often asked which of ingredients are synthetic so to save you trawling through their full list of ingredients, they are listed here:

    • Ascorbic Acid
    • Benzyl Alcohol
    • Dehydroacetic Acid
    • Menthyl Lactate
    • Potassium Sorbate
    • Vanillyl Butyl Ether

How rubefacients work for sports recovery
The cooling and warming effects of Natural Hero products are down to their blend of active botanicals known as rubefacients.

    What are Rubefacients?
Both hot and cold sensates can feel pleasant on the skin and are beneficial to sports recovery. This is due to their action as rubefacients or counter-irritants. Rubefacients are powerful stimulants; some have a ‘warming’ effect, and others a ‘cooling’ effect.

    How do Rubefacients work?
Rubefacient herbs are a class of botanicals which have a unique effect when applied to the skin. The mechanism for their warming and cooling action goes beyond simply ‘taking the mind off the pain”. It is now thought that counter-irritation acts to suppress any discomfort at spinal cord level in accordance with ‘gate-control theory’; the same mechanism by which TENS is thought to act.

Rubefacients stimulate the dilation of capillaries, increasing circulation around the treated area, helping speed the recovery process.

    What’s in them?
Each Natural Hero product is blended with between 4 and 6 rubefacient plant extracts in an over 98% natural base formulation.

    Are they medicinal ?
No. Given Natural Hero’s cosmetic level formulation it is very unlikely that the products would react with a user’s medication if the products are used as intended. As opposed to pharmaceutical grade products containing ibuprofen, sprain relief actives or numbing agents, Natural Hero do not contain any of these ingredients as that would make them fall under the Medical Devices Regulations rather than the Cosmetic (Safety) Regulations.

    About Natural Hero
Natural Hero love the outdoors and being active, so with plant scientists and sports physiotherapists they have formulated products that deliver effective sports recovery and respect the planet. They are an independently owned company based in Newcastle, UK. Here is the Natural Hero story...

    April 2009
Increasingly ready to leave publishing and the generally indoors Art World, Founder and Director Louise Vincent spends some time with an old family friend, experienced artisan herb grower and supplier to medicinal herbalists in her Culpepper designed Elizabethian walled garden in Kent.

    February 2010
On her annual ski holiday with the Swiss part of her family at Les Diablerets, Louise catches her ski tips on the edge of the trail and lands 5 meters downhill bouncing on her head and shoulder. It's her birthday. She's stretchered off, concussed and when she comes round her shoulder is stinging like crazy - a rotator cuff injury. Not a bad day to decide to wear a helmet for the first time! Strong paracetamol and brufen dull the pain and a warming topical cream from the village pharmacy helps soothe and comfort the "sting". The idea of non-medical, effective recovery products that use active botanical ingredients forms.

    March 2010
Founder Louise leaves her job and begins working full time on product development. With a shoulder still stinging, typing at the computer is tough so she embarks on a number of conversations.

Through her conversations the expertise needed is brought together. Experts are found and prepared to share their knowledge including: a plant scientist who understands about quality control, sports physiotherapists who understand massage and sports recovery, formulators skilled in green chemistry and a whole bunch of good quality suppliers.

    July 2010
Q: How do they ensure their active botanical ingredients are effective?
A: They secure a Business Innovation Award to fund scientific research at a leading University into the active compounds of their signature ingredients. Only those ingredients that score highest go on to be used in the final formulations.

    December 2010
Product formulations are signed off with the help of an industry "nose".

    January 2011
Sample products trialed by sports injury physiotherapists (Connect) pitch side with some well known North East Rugby teams as well as in clinics.

    February 2011
They receive the good news that they are the first sports and fitness brand to receive accreditation by Ethical Company Organization, on the top of the Villars-Diablerets trail.

    April 2011
Their first products Hot Ginger Muscle Rub and Cool Peppermint Muscle Spritz are launched at Natural & Organic show, London.

    June 2011
Seriously fit former gladiator, medical doctor and green blogger, Dr. Zoe Wiliams (aka Amazon) agrees to appear in a short promo video.

    July 2011
First batch of products arrive and first stockists come on board.

    Environmental Policy
At Natural Hero they feel passionately that their enjoyment of sports and outdoor pursuits needn't come with a detrimental environmental price tag and when they found out about a network of businesses joining forces to donate a portion of their sales to environmental initiatives, they joined.  By joining 1% for the planet they wish to ensure they help make a dent in the damage we collectively cause on the natural world.

Natural Hero is an independently owned private limited company, as such they do not believe their profit should be the only deciding factor in their operations.

They recognise their key environmental impacts to be in the areas of: energy use, raw material use, waste generation, emissions to air/water, water use, transport, supplier sourcing and procurement.

    They strive to:

    • Adopt the highest environmental standards in all areas of operation, meeting and exceeding all relevant legislative requirements.
    • Assess their organisational activities and identify areas where they can minimise impacts
