HyperIce Back Compression Wrap Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I leave the HyperIce on for?
15-20 minutes is recommended. For daily recovery and maintenance, one treatment per day is all that is needed. When icing an injury, the process can be repeated several times per day- with at least 90 minutes in between treatments. When icing the elbow, reduce the treatment time to 10-15 minutes.

Can I put the HyperIce directly on my skin?
Yes, the HyperIce can be applied directly to the skin. If desired, a thin shirt or garment can be worn underneath the device. If you are using HyperIce as a post surgical treatment, please cover any fresh surgical wounds/stitches with a clean band-aid, gauze pad, or saran wrap before applying the HyperIce to the skin.

I pressed the air release valve and nothing happened. No air came out.
The Ice Cell must be pressurized in order for the air release valve to work. For this to happen, the Ice Cell must be inserted into the Compression Wrap and the compression wrap must be applied to the body. At this point, the Ice Cell becomes pressurized and the air release valve can be pressed to remove air from inside the Ice Cell- this will increase compression.

Should I add water to the Ice Cell to make it conform to the body better?
No, do not add water to the Ice Cell. Adding water will prevent the compression wrap from providing optimal compression.

I left my Ice Cell in the hot sun and it damaged the material. Is it ruined?
If your Ice Cell has been sun damaged, follow these steps:

  1. rinse with cold water
  2. spread out the cell skin to remove any wrinkles or folds
  3. air dry
  4. place the Ice Cell (without the cap) in the freezer for one hour. The cold temperature should restore the material

Can the HyperIce be used for heat as well as ice?
No. The HyperIce is designed specifically to function as a cold therapy device. Do NOT fill the Ice Cell with hot water - doing so will damage the Ice Cell.

Technology
Each Hyperice device is composed of two parts that work together as a system to maximize cold and compression and deliver optimal cold therapy.

  1. HyperIce Ice Cell with Air Release Technology
The ice Cell provides the "cold" component by harnessing the power of real ice which is loaded into the Ice Cell each time the HyperIce is used. Real ice is a powerful topical anti-inflammatory agent because of its superior ability to remove heat from the body and reduce tissue temperatures.

    Air Release Valve
The patented air release valve removes air from the ice cell to enable maximum compression. When applied to the body, ice draws heat out of the body, slowly melting the ice to water. As this happens, pockets of air build up in the ice cell creating a barrier between the ice and the compression wrap. Releasing air from the ice cell allows the compression wrap to maintain constant pressure on the ice, thereby delivering optimal compression throughout the icing process.
  2. HyperIce Compression Wrap
Each HyperIce compression wrap is designed to apply firm pressure to the Ice Cell, pushing all excess air trapped in the cell tot he surface. By pressing the air release valve, the excess air is removed from the unit - allowing the compression wrap to make direct contact with the ice, forming an "ice cast" around the desired body part. Here are some of the features that make the system work:
    • Innovative Design
Each HyperIce compression wrap is specifically designed to provide optimal compression to specific body parts. Every line, curve, and groove has been carefully positioned to optimize form, fit, and function. Multidirectional straps and tension layers are just a few of the innovative features that have been implemented in the first generation product line.

WHY IS ICE BETTER FOR MUSCLE RECOVERY?
When it comes to the best methods for athletes to expedite muscle recovery, there tend to be two schools of thoughts:

  1. Heat is best.
  2. Ice is best.

While both have their advantages, ice tends to be the preferred method for most injuries, in addition to one of the most important aspects: rest.

LiveStrong.com explains why ice works so well for so many injuries:
"Your muscles experience tiny tears during tough training sessions," the site reports. 'However, the damage is actually a good thing, because when your body repairs them, your muscles grow and become stronger… immersing your muscles in ice immediately following workouts may expedite the healing process."

How to Use Ice for Muscle Recovery
Whether you are immersing your injured muscles in a bath of ice or using an ice compression wrap, you should first follow the directions provided by a certified coach or trainer. Icing sore muscles is a science and Hyperice compression wraps are engineered to give your muscles exactly what they need to recovery safely and effectively.

The Science of Using Ice
Putting ice on an injury causes blood vessels to constrict, therefore reducing blood circulation. After you remove the ice from your injury, the blood begins flowing again rapidly, which helps to flush out the lactic acid and provide a new supply of oxygen, thus aiding muscle recovery. This also reduces swelling, keeping you and your muscles happy!

Care Instructions

  1. After use, rinse the ice Cell inside and out with cool water and air dry.
  2. After the ice Cell is dry, store in a cool, dry place. Each Hyperice comes in a protective casing tube that is ideal for storing and/or carrying.
  3. Do not expose the Ice Cell to direct sunlight and/or heat, as the UV rays can damage the medical grade material.
  4. Do not fill the Ice Cell with anything other than ice. Hyperice works with all different forms of ice, but works best with crushed ice or Ice nuggets. Crushed ice and ice nuggets will conform to the body better than large cubes.
  5. The Hyperice wraps are machine washable, although it is not necessary to wash after each use. Wash the wraps only as needed. Wash on "delicate" and hang dry.

About HyperIce

In 2010, Hyperice set out to create the world's first high performance portable ice compression device. The Hyperice design team collaborated with engineers at Marton Precision Inc, an Orange County based aerospace manufacturing company. This combination of innovative design and cutting edge engineering produced the technology that is at the core of Hyperice and our products.

After a year of testing our products on some of the world's best athletes and fine tuning the products to fit their needs, we continue to improve our designs with the aim of perfecting the world's finest line of ice compression gear.

In 2011, Hyperice was in phase 2 : product testing, modification, and fine tuning. Rather than release its first generation product to the market, the Hyperice team collaborated with some of the world's best athletes and trainers to test the products and gather feedback that would be used to improve the design and functionality of the products. Knowing that these world class athletes would hold us to the highest standards of performance, we modified and adapted our product designs to meet the demands of the athletes and trainers who used our products on a daily basis. After several iterations, our second generation product line started making its way into the hands of more athletes and training rooms around the world.

In 2012, Hyperice will launch world wide and make our product line available to the masses- the same product line used by some of the world's best athletes. We will continue to explore new ways to improve our product line as well as develop new products that will help enhance athletic performance by providing athletes with new tools to help their recovery. We hope our products will provide you the best possible user experience and improve the treatment of your body so you can maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
