About Mrs Meyer's
The Real Mrs. Thelma A. Meyer
Believe it or not, Mrs. Meyer is a real person. You see, I'm Thelma Meyer and my daughter, Monica started Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day to create straight-forward, honest cleaners, that honor my old-fashioned values. They smell good and work like the dickens on dirt. They have something to clean every nook and cranny in your home as well as to keep you and your little ones clean and fresh. I use all the products around my home in Iowa as well as my trailer in Arizona, where my husband Vern and I go to escape those chilly Iowa winters.
I just wish I had these products back in the day. While keeping up my own home for over 40 years and raising 9 children in the process, I've had my fair share of dirt, grime, spills and fingerprints. These products made with essential oils, garden-fresh flowers and herbs, sure would have taken the chore out of cleaning! They are tough on even the dirtiest of dirt, and aromatherapeutic - which is just a fancy way of saying they smell nice and make you feel good while you clean. So, the mess suffers, but you don't. What could be better than that?
Wishing you a Clean and Happy Home,
Mrs. Thelma A. Meyer
Mrs. Meyer's Vision / Mission
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day philosophy is to make straightforward, honest cleaners that smell good and work like the dickens on dirt. All of their cleaning products are made with natural essential oils, packaged in recyclable materials, and they never test on animals.
Purity of Intent
At Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, their employees are their number one asset. They strive to maintain an appropriate work / life balance to ensure their employees are happy and enjoy coming to work each day. In-office work functions to celebrate successes are common, as are informal, monthly town hall meetings. When appropriate, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day works with employees to allow telecommuting, alternate work schedules, compressed work weeks and part-time schedules, helping to provide flexibility in this ever changing world.
Of course they also believe employees should have opportunities away from work to relax and rejuvenate so Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day offers a competitive Paid Time Off plan to assist with meeting their employees' time off needs. Employees also benefit from summer hours from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer is short in Minnesota and they want to ensure their team has the ability to enjoy a few extra hours of sunlight.
At Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, they feel it is important to go beyond making earth-friendly products. They're committed to using earth-friendly practices and have instituted them at their home office to protect and care for the environment.
- Green Team: They've instituted a cross department team to help us address key environmental issues and execute green initiatives both at work and at home. Their goal is to inform, encourage and support employees in their quest to become a more sustainable and earth-friendly organization. Together they will challenge theirselves to be Better Than Yesterday. No goal is too small and positive change is accessible with each step.
- Paper reduction: They use electronic communication whenever possible. If paper is necessary, they use recycled-content paper. They reuse paper for printing as much as they can.
- Gas usage reduction: A number of employees choose to walk, ride bike, take public transportation, or carpool to work.
- Beginning in 2008, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day adopted a 4 block section of the Midtown Greenway bike trail. The Greenway is used year-round, plowed for winter bikers.
- As a special holiday gift, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day plants a tree for each employee
Mrs. Meyer's Products
Are Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products free of chemicals and preservatives? Honestly, "chemical-free" is an impossible claim to make. Water is a chemical, air is a chemical, essential oils are chemicals and much of the world as they know it is a configuration of various carbon chains.
They want their products to be at their optimum freshness and safety throughout their useful lifetime, so they use a minimal amount of synthetic preservatives to accomplish this - in fact, less than one percent. Contact with contaminated product could be much more harmful than exposure to low levels of preservatives.
Their fragrance compositions use a combination of natural essential oils and safe synthetic ingredients. This allows for the most pleasing, quality, and intriguing scents - inspired by the garden - that you'll want to use again and again. This approach provides consistent performance, quality, and safety in every bottle. All fragrances are phthalate-free.
Mrs Meyer's Products
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products provide an effective alternative for people who are concerned with the environmental effects of conventional cleaning products. Their formulas combine natural essential oils with leading-edge cleaning know-how to provide an enjoyable, safe experience for their customers.
- Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day household cleaner ingredients are at least 97% naturally derived.
- Their products do not contain ammonia, chlorine, glycol solvents, parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, artificial colorants, phosphates or petroleum distillates.
- Their packaging is recyclable and they use 25% post consumer plastic in their bottles.
- They do not test their products on animals, nor are their products made with animal-derived ingredients.
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products are not anti-bacterial and that is by design. They believe in the homes of consumers, good soap and water are all that needed to keep things clean. This does not hold true in health care or food service environments, but for the average household the benefits of anti-bacterial products do not outweigh the risks. Their products are very effective cleaners and offer comparable and in some cases better soil and dirt removal, but do not offer the anti-bacterial benefits of products containing chlorine bleach. Products containing chlorine bleach are harder on the environment when they are disposed and also pose a risk to consumers in the fumes that they could potentially form. There is a growing body of evidence that points to the formation of "super organisms" that are resistant to anti-bacterial products because the world is using too many of these types of products. Lastly, if one chooses to use an anti-bacterial product they must pay close attention to the usage directions as most people spray and wipe, rather than spray and allow the product to work 2 - 3 minutes and then wipe up. Contact time is very important in these types of products.
They make intelligent, responsible raw material choices, and whenever possible, obtain materials from renewable plant resources such as coconut, palm, corn, soy or olive. At times they choose not to use a plant-derived material for reasons of efficacy, consistency and safety.
They manufacture according to exacting personal care standards in a cosmetic-grade cGMP facility. cGMP is an abbreviation for the term "current Good Manufacturing Practice," which refers to FDA regulations regarding the manufacturing, testing, and quality control of pharmaceutical and food products.
They put a lot of work into their products so it's less work for their consumers. No product will go on the shelf if it doesn't live up to the industry standard of clean, but it can't compromise their standards of what's good for consumers.
They make intelligent, responsible raw material choices, and whenever possible, obtain materials from renewable plant resources such as coconut, palm, corn, soy or olive. At times they choose not to use a plant-derived material for reasons of efficacy, consistency and safety. Examples of these choices are primarily around their preservative system and ingredients in some of their fragrance compositions. Safety is always the first consideration when evaluating all raw materials.
All suppliers of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day ingredients derived from Palm Oil are members of RSPO (Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil). Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day supports sustainable practices of eco-sensitive areas throughout Asia, Africa and South America like the Brazilian rainforests.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products are safe to use in the presence of children, pets, and expectant women. There are no petroleum distillates, no bleach, no phosphates and no ingredients that could cause harsh fumes. In addition, most of their products have a near neutral pH that makes them safe for skin contact. Simply follow the directions on every product. Please keep in mind that their products are richly fragranced, and some women have increased sensitivity to fragrances during pregnancy - sometimes this creates a very positive feeling, sometimes quite the opposite.
Always Earth-Friendly and Cruelty-Free
In order to include a claim on their product that it is "non-toxic" - a term that must be approved by regulatory agencies before it can be used on packaging - animal testing is required. Because they do not test on animals, they cannot claim that their product is "non-toxic". A toxicologist reviews all of their formulations again
Mrs Meyer's Scents
Inspired by Mrs. Thelma A. Meyer's garden, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day makes straightforward, honest cleaners that smell good and work like the dickens on dirt. Their products offer an aromatherapeutic experience while cleaning or doing the household chores.
Each scent combines natural essential oils in the fragrance blend along with top, middle and base notes. Top notes are the lightest, most whimsical evaporating components in a fragrance; the initial burst that you will notice when experiencing a fragrance. Citrus and fruits are used primarily as top notes. After some time you will start to smell the middle notes, these are slightly heavier, less airy components, often called the "heart" of the fragrance. You will notice these as the fragrance dries down and the top notes have evaporated.
Middle notes are mostly comprised of herbs and flowers. Finally you will smell the base notes. Base notes are the heaviest, most substantive ingredients, meaning they will last the longest. These will be what you smell as the fragrance ages, evaporates or dries down. The base notes and components stay the longest, often representing woody notes, resins, vanilla and musk.
