Ocean Blue Professional Omega-3 2100 contains the highest amount of Omega-3 essential fatty acids of any product available, with or without a prescription. Each serving provides 2,100 milligrams of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DHA) and other Omega-3 essential fatty acids. Hundreds of scientific studies suggest that EPA plays a significant role in cardiovascular health, including lowering triglycerides and lowering the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have been the center of much debate lately in the press. Research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids primarily help boost heart health by lowering triglyceride levels. There are many incorrectly managed studies of omega-3 fatty acids that place doubt in everyone's mind of their true effectiveness. Books, articles, blogs, TV shows discussing this very topic have exploded into the limelight. Let's review the benefits of omega-3s.
Omega-3s are EFAs (essential fatty acids) that work to assist with many medical conditions people face today. Omega-3s are needed in our daily diets for our bodies to work normally. DHA, EPA and ALA (docosahexanoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and alpha-linolenic acid) are not made in the body so we need to get them from the foods we eat. EPA and DHA are found in certain fish and plants. EPA and DHA are obtained from fish oil, the purest forms coming from fish that feed on algae.
Studies show strong evidence that omega-3s go beyond than heart health alone. Check out some of these research findings:
- Prenatal Health - EPA and DHA may boost the health of pregnant women and the brain development of their unborn babies
- Depression - may boost the effects of antidepressants and bipolar disorders
- ADHD- may improve cognitive functions and symptoms of this disorder
- Autism- may improve anxiety and provide mental focus
- Rheumatoid Arthritis - may significantly reduce joint stiffness and pain
- High Triglycerides - may cut elevated triglycerides
- Alzheimer's / Dementia - may protect against the the slow decline of cognitive function
- Cognitive Brain Health - improves memory functions
Research on omega-3 fatty acids is ongoing in several health areas. Doctors recommend fish consumption as a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Anchovies, sardines, bluefish, herring, mackerel, salmon, wild salmon, tuna, sturgeon and lake trout are all great choices for getting a high concentration of omega-3s. However, for those people who cannot eat fish, don't like fish or are vegetarians, fish oil supplements with high levels of EPA and DHA are excellent alternatives.
Experts recommend at least 1 gram (1,000 mg) of DHA and EPA daily for those with heart issues. People can take doses ups to 4 grams per day. Please consult with your physician before starting any type of fish oil supplement. You may be provided with specific recommendations depending on your health and other medications you take.
Where are Ocean Blue products made?
All Ocean Blue products are made in Riviera Beach, Florida. The Ocean Blue brand is owned and all Ocean Blue products are manufactured by Sancilio & Company, Inc. (SCI), a privately owned and operated biopharmaceutical company. SCI operates research, development, laboratory and production facilities in a 40,000 square foot cGMP factory. SCI is registered as a drug manufacturer with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and with the State of Florida. As such, its facilities are subject to periodic inspection by regulatory authorities.
Can I use Ocean Blue Professional Omega-3 2100 as a substitute to the more expensive Omega-3 product prescribed by my physician?
Their Omega-3 2100 is not a generic version of any prescription product. It does, however, contain amounts of the Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that are similar, but higher, than those found in the only FDA-approved prescription Omega-3 currently available. You should ask your health care provider to review your medical needs and budget to help you decide what product is best for you.
Do I need a prescription to buy Ocean Blue products?
No. While Ocean Blue Professional Omega-3 2100 is only available "behind the counter" from your pharmacist or your health care provider, a prescription is not required to purchase it.
What is the difference between Ocean Blue products and other Omega-3 and fish oil supplements?
Most fish oil is typically made from the by-products of fish processed for food and other uses. This oil is unrefined and unconcentrated, resulting in very low levels of Omega-3 fatty acids and high levels of saturated fats, which are actually detrimental to your health. This is the oil that is used in most Omega-3s and fish oil supplements. Ocean Blue products are made from a highly-refined, ultra-pure pharmaceutical grade Omega-3 that is produced exclusively for use in our products. The result is that Ocean Blue products contain the highest amount of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids available, with or without a prescription. In addition, our products contain zero saturated fats. We encourage you to compare the labels on Ocean Blue products with that of any other Omega-3, krill oil or fish oil supplement available.
Why is prescription Omega-3 so expensive compared to Ocean Blue products?
Obtaining FDA approval of a product is expensive. In addition to the cost of developing the product, clinical trials must be conducted and, once the product is approved by the FDA, significant sums must be spent to market the product to the physicians who will prescribe it. In order for the company that owns this product to recoup these costs and obtain a profit on the product, the company must charge a price that is substantially higher than non-FDA approved products, even when the products are very similar in strength and efficacy.
Why do most Omega-3 and other fish oil supplements have such an unpleasant smell?
Most Omega-3 and fish oil supplements are simply mixtures of unrefined fish fat, which can turn rancid and create an unpleasant odor. To eliminate the odor, the manufacturing process requires repeated distillation of fresh fish oil, which removes the fats that cause the unpleasant odor. In refined pharmaceutical grade oils, such as those used in our Ocean Blue products, the oil is molecularly distilled at least 26 times, resulting in a product that has virtually no smell or taste. They also use a natural orange oil for flavoring to eliminate any fishy smell or burps.
About Ocean Blue Professional
Ocean Blue products are manufactured and distributed by Sancilio and Company, Inc. (SCI), a research-based biopharmaceutical company located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Since being founded by Frederick D. Sancilio, Ph.D. in 2007, they have focused on the development, manufacture and commercialization of Omega-3-based products that incorporate highly refined Omega-3 fatty acids and utilize our proprietary Advanced Lipid Technologies. Their Advanced Lipid Technologies include the formulation of an appropriate ratio of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), as well as a combination of molecular distillation, winterization, decolorization and deodorization (smell and taste masking) techniques.
Their Florida-based research laboratories are staffed with highly qualified and experienced scientists, and their fully-operational cGMP production facilities enable them to manufacture products that are then sold through their domestic and international distribution channels. The SCI team currently consists of approximately 50 employees, over ten of whom hold a PhD or an MD.
They began commercial distribution of their first Omega-3 product, Ocean Blue Professional Omega-3 2100, in the United States in 2009 and in Italy in 2010. While Omega-3 2100 does not require a prescription, it is only sold "behind the counter" in pharmacies and by doctors in their offices.
