Frequently Asked Questions:
What makes Born Free bottles so unique?
Born Free bottles are one of the few bottle systems that are ideal for both breastfeeding and formula feeding. The vent inside the bottle, called ActiveFlow Venting Technology, allows the baby to control the flow of milk and is designed to help reduce colic symptoms. This means that whether a mom decides to exclusively breastfeed, breastfeed and supplement with or switch to formula, or strictly formula feed she will not need to switch bottle systems. The Born Free Classic Bottles are made out of PES plastic (Polyethersulfone), a durable and premium material that is ideal for boiling and repeated sterilization. Born Free Classic Bottles are also bottom rack dishwasher safe. Classic Bottles maintain the integrity of the valve and collar fit to the bottle and prevent leaking that can be experienced with other bottle brands..
Do Born Free bottles leak?
Born Free bottles are made from quality materials and feature an ActiveFlow Venting Technology, so when assembled correctly they do not leak. If a customer has experienced leaking it is due to one of two issues. First, the collar is being screwed onto the bottle too tightly. This will build up too much pressure inside the bottle and can warp the vent, and it can begin to leak. Loosening the collar just a little bit will solve this issue. The second reason a bottle could leak is because of the vents. Make sure the 2 pieces of the vent are fitting tightly together and snuggly inside the bottle. Next, you want to inspect the silicone valve portion of the vent. If you push up on this valve, you will see a vertical slit on one side. If this slit is torn in anyway, even in the slightest, then the bottle may leak. To avoid tearing – vents should be washed carefully, either in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand using a gentle bottle brush such as the Born Free Tru-Clean Bottle Cleaning System.
Do the nipples collapse during feedings?
No, Born Free is a vented bottle system and the nipples do not collapse when used correctly. If a customer is experiencing nipples collapsing it is due to one of two issues. The most common reason is that the child is ready to move up to the next level nipple. When the baby sucks harder than what the liquid is flowing, the nipple will start to collapse or invert into itself. Born Free offers 5 levels of nipples to fit all the stages of a baby's development. The second reason a nipple will collapse is that the collar is being screwed onto the bottle too tightly. This will build up too much pressure inside the bottle and the nipple will collapse. Loosening the collar just a little bit will solve this issue.
Why are Born Free bottles yellow or cloudy in appearance?
Since Born Free bottles are free from chemicals such as BPA and PVC, the Classic bottles have a honey (yellowish) color to them. This is because the bottles are made from the plastic PES (Polyethersulfone). The Deco bottles have a milky or cloudy appearance because are made of the plastic Polypropylene. Both are absolutely safe and normal.
Can Born Free bottles be uses with bottle warmers or sterilizers?
Yes, Born Free Classic and Deco bottles can be used with most bottle warmers and sterilizers. Born Free recommends Born Free’s Tru-Temp Bottle Warmer and Tru-Clean Steam Sterilizer. Born Free Glass bottles are safe to sterilize. If using a bottle warmer, Born Free always recommends reading the manufacturer’s instructions before warming a glass bottle. If a customer does use a bottle warmer, they must make sure the liquid they are warming is at room temperature. Taking a cool or cold bottle and putting into a warmer could cause the glass to crack.
Are the Born Free parts interchangeable?
All cups and bottles are completely interchangeable. Spouts and handles can be put on bottles and nipples can be put on cups. The only exception is the Twist 'N Pop Straw Cup which is not interchangeable.
Can Born Free bottles be frozen?
Yes, the Classic and Deco plastic bottles can be frozen with the collar and sealing disk. Do not freeze with the vent or nipple on the bottle. Born Free does not recommend freezing glass bottles.
Can Born Free bottles be microwaved?
Both glass and plastic bottles can be put in the microwave for small intervals; however, Born Free does not recommend using the microwave for warming a bottle as hot spots can develop.
What kind of plastic is used to make Born Free Bottles?
Born Free's Classic Bottles that have a honey (yellow) tint to them and are made out of PES (Polyethersulfone) and the Deco bottles that have a white tint (cloudy appearance) are made of Polypropylene.
Can cereal be added to formula when using a Born Free bottle?
When cereal has to be added to a bottle, consumers should use Level 3 nipples. The Y cut can be used for thicker formulas or for children who are older. Born Free recommends speaking to a pediatrician before adding cereal to bottles.

Are the bottles dishwasher safe?
All parts of the Born Free Feeding System are dishwasher-safe. Classic bottles can be placed on the bottom rack, but all other products should be placed on the top rack when dishwashing. Secure the smaller pieces so they do not fall to the bottom of the dishwasher and run the dishwasher as you would normally.

Replace the nipples every two to three months or at the first sign of wear.
