Health & Safety
It is important to i play that their products are safe and healthy for both baby and the environment. Those at i play believe in manufacturing all of their merchandise in a more eco-conscious and baby-conscious way. They strive to continue to be on the forefront of all health and safety issues by continuously researching and testing to better protect both the little ones and the big world.
Children are most susceptible to harmful substances during pregnancy and early childhood. During this time they are vulnerable to elements in their environment, and should be protected as much as possible from exposure to potentially harmful substances. The first priority for growing babies is to make sure everything they put inside their mouths is healthy, safe, and promotes the development of a strong immune system.
At i play, they strive to make their products as safe as possible. They keep the health and safety of your baby in mind through every stage of product development.
- PVC Free
PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) is a hard plastic that requires harsh chemical softeners, such as phthalates, to make it appropriate for use in soft plastic baby items such as bibs. In 2003 i play discovered that certain phthalates were shown to disrupt reproductive functions and cause other developmental problems, so they launched a line of PVC-free feeding items including bibs, dishes, utensils, and storage containers.
- BPA Free
Bisphenol-A (BPA) is used in hard, clear plastics such as baby bottles to prevent breakage. In 2006, when i play learned that BPA also disrupts reproductive functions and causes other developmental problems, they discontinued all BPA from their feeding items.
For over two decades i play has been researching children's health issues to make safer feeding accessories that come in contact with babies' mouths and foods. Due to recent safety issues in children's toys they saw a need for toys free from potentially harmful toxins. So in 2008 they launched a new line of PVC, BPA, and nitrosamine free toys made from eco-friendly materials. i play offers biodegradable and compostable ecoplastic products that lessen their environmental impact and is also safe for baby. Feeding accessories made from cornstarch and potato starch, such as the cornstarch rattlers and teethers, are made without the use of harsh chemicals or petroleum and are PVC and BPA free. i play also offers bibs and toys made with organic cotton, which is grown without the use of toxins, synthetic fertilizers or pesticides making it the safest and healthiest fabric available
Over the years, i play has established relationships with carefully chosen factories in Asia. While all i play products are designed by their in-house design team, many of their products are manufactured by their Asian partners.
In these cases, i play employs the highest quality factories and demands safe, non-toxic manufacturing standards that meet and often exceed the rigorous safety protocols of both the United States and Europe.
All employees are cared for and treated with respect. I play's factories provide a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
i play are concerned about ethical practices and environmental impacts in all aspects of their business. From the beginning, i play.™ has placed ethical, safe, and environmentally friendly production and distribution as a top priority and will continue to do so on all of their products.
About i play
What began as a mother's desire to give her children the best possible health—both inside and out—is now i play, Inc. Founded in 1982, i play focuses on values that prioritize protecting children and the Earth. I play's company has always been about doing the best thing, the right thing for babies. I play are committed to leadership in continually learning about product materials and potential health and safety issues concerning these materials. In 2003 they discovered the use of PVC in baby products. I play researched and educated themselves about the dangers of PVC and ensured that all of their products were PVC-free. In 2006 they learned about similar concerns over BPA, a petroleum-based hormone disrupter, and quickly eliminated it from their green sprouts products. Now they are researching petroleum-free materials and other healthy ways to take care of babies and toddlers.
As parents, store owners and good managers, it is important to educate ourselves about what is best for their babies, which includes finding responsible companies. One of i play's primary goals is to help parents navigate their way through information, products and trends in order to make sound decisions about the care of your family.
Some choices they offer include materials that encourage healthy development from the inside and the outside:
