Frequently Asked Questions:
Do the nipples collapse during feedings?
No, Born Free is a vented bottle system and the nipples do not collapse when used correctly.
If a customer is experiencing nipples collapsing it is due to one of two issues. The most common reason is that the child is ready to move up to the next level nipple. When the baby sucks harder than what the liquid is flowing, the nipple will start to collapse or invert into itself. Born Free offers 5 levels of nipples to fit all the stages of a baby's development.
The second reason a nipple will collapse is that the collar is being screwed onto the bottle too tightly. This will build up too much pressure inside the bottle and the nipple will collapse. Loosening the collar just a little bit will solve this issue.
Are the Born Free parts interchangeable?
All cups and bottles are completely interchangeable. Spouts and handles can be put on bottles and nipples can be put on cups. The only exception is the Twist 'N Pop Straw Cup which is not interchangeable.
Can cereal be added to formula when using a Born Free bottle?
When cereal has to be added to a bottle, consumers should use Level 3 nipples. The Y cut can be used for thicker formulas or for children who are older. Born Free recommends speaking to a pediatrician before adding cereal to bottles.
How should Born Free products be sterilized?
Wash and sterilize your Born Free products before use. Products can be sterilized by either boiling them for five-to-ten minutes in water or by using a Born Free Tru-Clean Steam Sterilizer.
Can Born Free products be boiled?
Yes. All parts are designed to withstand sterilization by boiling in five-to-ten minute intervals. Please ensure that the pieces do not rest on the bottom or sides of a metal pot as this may cause them to melt.
Are the bottles dishwasher safe?
All parts of the Born Free Feeding System are dishwasher-safe. Classic bottles can be placed on the bottom rack, but all other products should be placed on the top rack when dishwashing. Secure the smaller pieces so they do not fall to the bottom of the dishwasher and run the dishwasher as you would normally.
How should Born Free products be maintained?
Wash all Born Free products with mild soap. Avoid antibacterial soaps and harsh cleaners that can affect the silicone in the products and cause the plastic to become brittle. Wash nipples using only your fingers and warm, soapy water. Alternatively you can use Born Free's Tru-Clean Bottle Cleaning System. Replace the nipples every two to three months or at the first sign of wear.
Do all Born Free bottles come with nipples?
Yes. All 5oz Born Free bottles come with level 1 nipples and 9oz bottles come with level 2 nipples. All nipples are made of silicone. Born Free training and drinking cups also come with their own spouts.
Do Born Free products contain PVC?
No. Born Free products are free from Poly-Vinyl Chloride (PVC).
What are the nipple and vent components on Born Free bottles made of?
All nipple and vent components are made of medical grade silicone.
How often should I replace the nipples on Born Free bottles?
Born Free recommends that nipples be replaced after 3 months.
