Black Tea Organic by Two Leaves Tea Company
Two Leaves Tea Company Black Tea Organic English Breakfast Tea - 3.5 oz.
Two Leaves Tea Company Black Tea Organic English Breakfast Tea is a traditional breakfast tea: whole leaf 100% assam tea and flowery orange pekoe. Assam, in the far northeast of India, is one of the premier tea growing regions of the world. However, only a small amount of assam's tea is large leaf "orthodox" tea; an even smaller quantity is organic. Two Leaves Tea works directly with the growers to develop the highest quality organic tea and encourage more organic growth. This organic, malty, rich and smooth black tea comes in an eco-friendly cylinder that holds 100 grams of loose tea.
Have the true garden experience - go there with Two Leaves Tea Company Loose Tea. As the whole leaf teas unfurl, you'll discover flavors and aromas unlike any you've experienced before. Two Leaves offers many of its teas in sachets in loose form, as well as offering many exclusively loose teas such as Pinhead Gunpowder and Jasmine Pearl, all in sleeves that yield 50-100 servings of tea: a fantastic economical solution for avid tea drinkers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did they shorten their name from two leaves and a bud tea company™ to two leaves tea company™?
In a word, simplicity! They found their long name, while descriptive, was confusing to people - tea lovers and tea novices alike.
Why did Two Leaves packaging change?
Two Leaves packaging has changed to match their new (shorter) name and logo. The new packaging is also more eco-friendly; they have replaced the plastic over-wrap with a simple tear-strip at the top of the box. Plus, their eco-friendly sleeves inside the box that keep your tea fresh are now 18% smaller. Furthermore, they know you appreciate a good lookin' box of tea. But while their look is different, it's the same quality tea you have come to enjoy.
I bought two boxes of the same kind of tea and found that they taste slightly different. Why is that?
Two Leaves teas will occasionally vary in flavor for couple of reasons. First, tea is an agricultural crop that is affected from harvest to harvest by changes in weather conditions, including temperature and levels of precipitation (just like wine grapes!). Second, they source their whole leaf teas from single gardens, and on occasion, they are forced to find new gardens and new tea crops. Despite these variables, they always endeavor to source quality organic tea that tastes as much like the previous crop as possible.
Where is Two Leaves tea packed?
Two Leaves pack the majority of their tea in Asia because they can pack the tea much fresher there, as it is closer to the tea source. Most of their teas are grown in China and India - the world's premier tea growing regions. They have staff on site to inspect each shipment, everyday. They don't face the transit delays that most tea companies who pack in the U.S. do. Their tea goes from the garden to the store shelf in less than six months, which is about a year faster than most tea companies.
Their Organic Peppermint (which is grown in eastern Washington state) and Organic Chamomile are packed in British Columbia, Canada. Their Paisley Tea Co.™ teas are packed in Philadelphia, USA.
Are any of Two Leaves teas sourced in Japan?
No. At one point Two Leaves did source some green tea from Japan (long before the earthquake and resulting nuclear disaster). However, the Chinese started growing high-quality organic Japanese-style teas that rivaled the traditional Japanese teas. Now all of the green teas they use in their sachets are grown in China.
Does Two Leaves tea expire?
Two Leaves teas technically do not expire. However, they will taste their best if consumed within the first two years. All of their teas are stamped on the side or bottom of the product with a "best by" date. This "best by" date is determined by the date it is freshly packed.
Two Leaves sachet is derived from cornstarch; can I drink Two Leaves tea if I have a corn allergy?
The sachets no longer contain the properties that would affect people with those plant allergies because the chemical structure of the corn has been altered to have a plastic character.
Some of Two Leaves teas taste sweet. Does Two Leaves sweeten them/do they have calories?
Two Leaves do not put any sweeteners in their teas. They leave the sweetening up to the discretion of their customers. Brewed tea does not contain any calories, so you can sip carefree! In fact, while they're not scientists or nutritionists, they hear that green tea can even promote weight loss.
How much caffeine is in a cup of tea?
As reference, coffee contains around 120-200 mg of caffeine per cup. Black teas have approximately 50 mg of caffeine; green and white teas have around 30 mg of caffeine. Rooibos and herbal teas are all naturally caffeine free.
If there is caffeine in tea, won't I get dehydrated drinking it?
Caffeine in any beverage is a diuretic; diuretics dehydrate the body. Because herbal infusions do not have caffeine, they hydrate. Therefore, if you are drinking many cups of tea per day, it is better to make most of them herbal.
How much water should I use when brewing Two Leaves tea?
Two Leaves™ tea sachets are best prepared with 12 - 16 ounces (355-473ml) of water. Use a good-sized mug, not a little teacup!
How hot should the water be when brewing tea?
The proper temperature of the water depends on the type of tea. Black, red and herbal teas can handle water at a full boil of 212º F (100º C). In fact, black teas especially need very hot water to help draw out the complex flavors of the tea. Water for green and white teas should be at a light boil of 160-190º F (71-88º C). These teas can scald if the water is too hot. Fun fact: Two leaves™ headquarters is at an elevation of 6,611 ft (2,015 m) where water boils at around 200º F (93º C)! At what temperature does water boil where you live?
How much loose tea should I use?
Two Leaves recommend using 2 to 2.5 grams per 12 -16 oz when brewing their loose teas. That's the same amount of tea as is in their sachets, which are meant for a big mug. If you don't have a scale, you can use this basic guide: For black and green teas, use a slightly heaping teaspoon of loose tea. But for bulkier teas (like full-leaf white tea) and big leaf/flower herbals (like chamomile), use more like a heaping tablespoon.
Of course, it's all a matter of preference, so they encourage you to experiment when brewing your loose tea to find out how to best prepare the cuppa' to your liking.
Can I reuse a sachet?
Two Leaves certainly won't discourage you from reusing your sachets; in fact, they're all about experimenting with tea! You'll likely experience different flavors in the second steep that you might enjoy.
About Two Leaves Tea Company
Tea is more than just the leaves in the bag. It's the passion, care and effort that went into getting them there. Their experiences at the gardens have taught them one incredibly important thing - how to recognize and appreciate great organic whole leaf tea. Their commitment to "go there" means they're providing the customers with tea that tastes as if it has been plucked and steeped direct from the gardens. Two Leaves Tea Company was one of the pioneers of the pyramid shaped tea sachet that allows tea drinkers to experience whole leaf tea in the comfort of their own home. The sachet gives the whole tea leaves the ability to expand, yielding a rich, flavorful cuppa' that can't be paralleled.
Two Leaves is committed ...
- To Organic: It's not easy finding great organic tea. Many organic tea gardens of the world convert old tea bushes to organic tea production, instead of planting fresh tea bushes grown organically from scratch. At Two Leaves, they work tirelessly to provide great organic tea - they seek out the gardens committed to growing new organic tea bushes. It's not easy, but their goal is to provide organic tea that tastes like nothing you've ever had before. The result of the efforts are rich, complex black teas, like Assam or Earl Grey, that are certified organic with a taste you won't believe.
- To Small Farmers: Two Leaves journeys to the gardens show them time and time again that great growers deserve to be rewarded for great tea. As a result, they pay more for premium whole leaf teas, ensuring that more money makes it back to the source. Two Leaves is also one of the founding members of the TRUST Organic Small Farmers Initiative. When sourcing African Sunset rooibos tea, they found that the farmers didn't receive a fair share for their efforts - Two Leaves helped to spearhead the movement to form the TRUST initiative so they could reward South African farmers for their hard work in providing great tea. Two Leaves tea company is also a Fair Trade certified company.
- To Education: "Going There" is a learning experience. Their interactions with farmers, their endless cupping of tea, seeing and experiencing the actual region of origin all adds up to an incredible depth of knowledge that they are committed to sharing with employees and customers.
