Biggs & Featherbelle are somewhat fictional. Biggs (formerly named Bubba) is a character inspired from their cat named Diesel. Featherbelle is a fusion of Kelly & Kasey. Biggs & Featherbelle represent a broad spectrum of people from manly tough to girly sweet. The characters were developed and illustrated by their friend Brian Dugan (who prefers to stay behind the scenes).

What is Sodium Hydroxide?
Sodium Hydroxide is lye, an essential ingredient in soap making. Lye and oils react together to create soap therefore no lye is in the final product. In their recipes the amount of oil is always greater than the needed lye so that their bars are moisturizing and gentle to the skin.

How does Biggs & Featherbelle make soap?
Mixing oils and a lye water solution makes soap. Once the oils and lye are combined together, after vigorous stirring, the mixture thickens and is poured into molds. The molds are covered for 24 hours to allow the saponification process to occur. After the 24-hour period, the soap is taken out and cut into bars. The bars must cure for three to four weeks (for the entire chemical reaction to finalize) before use.

Can the soaps be used on face and body?
Yes! Every one of their soaps is gentle enough for the face and cleansing enough for the body. Handle Bar, Fixins Bar, Momma Bar, and Bar-tender are especially good for the face.

Are Biggs & Featherbelle products vegan?
Many of their products are vegan and all are vegetarian.

They have many ideas brewing in their heads but definitely on their list are liquid soaps, body and face lotions and healing balms/salves. Farther in the future they would love to explore making shampoo, conditioner, and deodorants.

Do Biggs & Featherbelle products "go bad" after a period of time?
Their products are preserved with Vitamin E. They will keep fresh for up to 2 years although after 1 year you may notice the aroma starts to fade.

How long does a bar of soap last?
A bar of soap can last several weeks if properly stored. Natural, handmade soap is softer than commercial detergent bars and needs to be kept in a dry spot when not in use. Having a soap dish with good drainage is key; soap left standing in water or under a leaky showerhead will melt fast.

How does Biggs & Featherbelle color and scent their products?
They let Mother Nature do the work. All of their products are fragranced only with essential oils (which have many therapeutic benefits). The colors are derived from plants, herbs, and vegetable oils.

Biggs & Featherbelle Story… The birth of Biggs & Featherbelle:
Sisters Kelly and Kasey Evick created Biggs & Featherbelle in January 2003. A magazine article inspired the pair to make 'melt and pour' glycerin soaps as Christmas presents. With backgrounds in the Fine Arts and Fashion, the two had fun creating unique recipes, packaging and clever names for each item. The gifts were a big hit.

Their family had always been proponents of alternative healing practices and consumers of natural beauty products. So, it seemed fitting to continue exploring the benefits of botanicals. The innocent investigation soon turned to obsession. The sisters quit their day jobs and devoted every hour to research and invention, striving to create the products they couldn't find on the shelves. Fueled by encouragement from friends and family, the word spread to local festivals, then regional fairs and eventually in stores throughout the U.S.

Today, armed with the collected experience and knowledge of essential oils and other critical ingredients, the mission is to create products with a purpose.
