What makes this soap natural?
Many soaps contain synthetic detergents, animal ingredients (tallow), or artificial fragrances and preservatives. Tom's of Maine vegetable-based soaps are made gentle and effective without these ingredients.
Natural color and preservation
The deep, rich color of our soaps comes from natural emollients and extracts, not artificial dye. Tom's uses a unique blend of rosemary and vitamin C to preserve our soaps, not synthetic preservatives such as EDTA.
At Tom's of Maine, we don't use synthetic fragrances. Every scent in Tom's natural soaps comes from natural ingredients: the essential oils of herbs and the bright, colorful aromas of flowers and roots.

Ethylene glycol can be found in hair care products and facial/body washes as a fragrance ingredient, a solvent, and as an aid in controlling viscosity. Tom's of Maine uses water and ingredients derived from corn, coconut and palm kernel oils, and sea salt to control consistency in Tom’s body washes, and natural fragrances in all of Tom's products. Many conventional toothpastes contain artificial sweeteners; Tom’s customers prefer a less-sweet natural flavor. Tom's of Maine uses natural sweeteners such as xylitol and rely on the naturally delicious tastes of fruits and herbs to flavor our toothpastes. Triclosan
Tom's of Maine relies on naturally sourced zinc instead of triclosan to fight tartar.
