Iron is an essential mineral. It is part of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of the blood. Iron-deficient people tire easily in part because their bodies are starved for oxygen. Iron is also part of myoglobin, which helps muscle cells store oxygen. Without enough iron, adenosine triphosphate (ATP; the fuel the body runs on) cannot be properly synthesized. As a result, some iron-deficient people become fatigued even when their hemoglobin levels are normal (i.e., when they are not anemic).

The signs and symptoms of iron deficiency include:

  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Pale skin
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Brittle hair and nails
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart palpitations
  • Decreased ability to exercise
  • Poor concentration
  • Rapid pulse
  • Susceptibility to infections
  • Dizziness or faintness
  • Cold extremities

Although it is readily found in nature, iron is poorly absorbed and Floradix Iron & Herbs is specially designed to support healthy iron levels due to its maximum absorption ability.

About Flora
At Flora, we have been manufacturing and supplying premium herbal products since 1965, but our roots stretch back to Germany in the early 1900s, where Dr. Otto Greither, grandfather of the current owner Thomas Greither, dedicated his life to the discovery, production and distribution of natural health care products. Flora has preserved his original dedication to perfect and make available herbal remedies that ensure maximum purity, quality and potency with a holistic approach to health.

Where is Iron found?
The most absorbable form of iron, called “heme” iron, is found in oysters, meat and poultry, and fish. Non-heme iron is also found in these foods, as well as in dried fruit, molasses, leafy green vegetables, wine, and iron supplements. Acidic foods (such as tomato sauce) cooked in an iron pan can also be a source of dietary iron.

Who is likely to be deficient?

  • Vegetarians eat less iron than non-vegetarians, and the iron they eat is somewhat less absorbable. As a result, vegetarians are more likely to have reduced iron stores. However, iron deficiency is not usually caused by a lack of iron in the diet alone. An underlying cause, such as iron loss in menstrual blood, often exists.
  • Pregnant women, marathon runners, people who take aspirin, and those who have parasitic infections, hemorrhoids, ulcers, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, gastrointestinal cancers, or other conditions that cause blood loss or malabsorption are likely to become deficient.
  • Infants living in inner city areas may be at increased risk of iron-deficiency anemia and suffer more often from developmental delays as a result. Supplementation of infant formula with iron up to 18 months of age in inner city infants has been shown to prevent iron-deficiency anemia and to reduce the decline in mental development seen in such infants in some, but not all, studies.

Breath-holding spells are a common problem affecting about 27% of healthy children. These spells have been associated with iron-deficiency anemia, and several studies have reported improvement of breath-holding spells with iron supplementation.

People who fit into one of these groups, even pregnant women, shouldn’t automatically take iron supplements. Fatigue, the first symptom of iron deficiency, can be caused by many other things. A doctor should assess the need for iron supplements, since taking iron when it isn’t needed does no good and may do some harm.

Which forms of supplemental iron are best?

All iron supplements are not the same. Ferrous iron (e.g. ferrous sulfate) is much better absorbed than ferric iron (e.g. ferric citrate). The most common form of iron supplement is ferrous sulfate, but it is known to produce intestinal side effects (such as constipation, nausea, and bloating) in many users. Some forms of ferrous sulfate are enteric-coated to delay tablet dissolving and prevent some side effects, but enteric-coated iron may not absorb as well as iron from standard supplements. Other forms of iron supplements, such as ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, heme iron concentrate, and iron glycine amino acid chelate are readily absorbed and less likely to cause intestinal side effects.

Flora Mission In God They Trust

The mission of Flora is to participate in the continuing evolution of the people on Earth toward universal harmony, peace and perfection by providing products and services for the purification and upliftment of the body and spirit, and by providing to each person who derives a livelihood with Flora, an opportunity for personal growth and advancement of these goals in life.

History

In 1965, Flora began its North American operations in Burnaby, British Columbia, and is currently owned by natural health visionary Thomas Greither. Originally, Thomas ran a natural foods store in Burlington, Vermont, and it was his dream to produce and provide consumers with the finest health products available.

In its early stages, Flora served primarily as a centre for distributing and marketing European herbal remedies. At that time, alternative health products were virtually unknown in Canada. As interest grew, Flora began manufacturing natural bulk laxatives and its own line of herbal therapeutic teas. These teas were the first of their kind to be prepared in Canada and their popularity soon blossomed.

In 1986, Flora resumed its role as a pioneer when it produced the first truly cold-pressed, unrefined oils for medicinal use or food preparation. A unique manufacturing method eliminates any light or oxygen and allows the enzymes in the seed matter to be processed at body temperature and the essential fatty acids to remain active.

In 1988, Flora expanded into the U.S., opening a manufacturing facility in Lynden, Washington. The company also acquired several acres of farmland in order to grow its own organic herbs. All stages of production are done in-house in Burnaby and Lynden, from selecting and lab testing all raw materials to herb extraction, encapsulation and final packaging.

In June of 1992, in cooperation with Elaine Alexander, the company began preparing and distributing the remarkable herbal formula known as Flor•Essence. Its popular effect in exerting a positive influence on a host of chronic conditions has rapidly spread throughout the health community and is revered by people everywhere for its life-rejuvenating benefits. Flora also launched a foundational line of health products under the Udo's Choice label including the first age-specific probiotics and vegetarian DHA.  Today, Flora continues its innovation in product development and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

Premium Quality

Flora has evolved into one of North America's premier natural health products companies. The U.S. and Canadian production plants include sophisticated semi-automatic and fully automatic equipment for processing quality herbal teas and liquid tonics, encapsulating herbal extracts and cold-pressing certified organic seeds into health-benefitting oils. Flora's ongoing research and development has resulted in a number of production methods which are the finest in the world.

All of Flora's products are manufactured in accordance with GMP standards and the facilities and manufacturing procedures are in compliance with all regulatory agencies in Canada and the United States, including Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, Flora is a certified organic producer and processor overseen by the third-party certifying agency, Quality Assurance International, (QAI). This means that the organic herbal remedies prepared and distributed by Flora are guaranteed top quality and chemical free, right from the seed that is planted to the harvest and from the post-harvest facilities to the final production and packing.

Thomas Greither is dedicated to preserving the environment and in utilizing production and packaging practices that are ecologically sound, including vegetarian capsules for all the dry herbal extracts and environmentally friendly amber glass bottles for the herbal tonics and organic oils. Flora has been honored with numerous awards and continually strives to remain a leader in the field of natural health by remaining committed to its mandate of offering only supreme quality formulas.

Flora Farms

Flora grows most of its own herbs on farms in Washington and Chile and purchases the rest through fair trade practices from organic farmers. "We are one of the very few companies who actually grow our own herbs," says Thomas Greither. "If we buy from another farm, we know what seed they used, and we always receive the herbs in the whole form. You can tell if it was dried properly and handled properly. Most companies buy them powdered. We have a whole grinding department. Each herb needs a different cutting mechanism, and we cut them just before manufacturing. With essential herbs, if I grind them a half a year before manufacturing, that would not be as effective. Sometimes the industry gets a bad name because of the use of these dried herbs. Essential oils oxidize out of the product. For example, in our teas, we have a special vapor moisture barrier so the essential oils from the product can't evaporate; it preserves freshness."

The certified organic farm in Chile lies on 1500 acres of land that has never been intensively farmed, and was thoroughly tested before cultivation began to ensure it was free of pollutants such as chemical fertilizers. The farm is set in a pristine paradise cut off by the deserts in the north, the waters of the Antarctic in the south, the Andes (with a height of 5,500 metres) in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. This natural enclosing wall protects from plant diseases and insects, and there are no city exhaust fumes or sources of industrial pollution for many kilometres.

Today, approximately 100 different raw materials are supplied here, from more than 80 plant species. Once harvested, the plants are dried using the world's most advanced eco-friendly solar dryers.

It functions as it advertised. I didn't feel my energy increased right after 3 days of intake - thought this could be different person by person - but I do feel I'm not easily getting sleep. This Tablets version is very convenient, and can be very accurate in terms of intake quantity, also, leave no stain on teeth. Plus a comment on the service: I was notified by FedEx the liquid was leaking, I contacted with LuckyVitamin for this, LuckyVitamin shipped out replacement right away after receiving my note. I would revisit LuckyVitamin for purchasing once needed. Thanks.

My wife was complaining of being really tired and not sleeping well. She took these tablets at night and within three days slept better and has more energy. When she ran out she was floored.
