Acti-Tape has its origins in therapeutic sports tapes for rehabilitation of injuries, providing support to joints and muscles, and enhancing sports performance without affecting range of motion. The concept was initially developed in Japan in the late 1970's. Nowadays aside from application in rehabilitation, newer methodologies have been developed that address benefits associated with preventive health maintenance, reducing edema and pain relief.
The methodology is referred to by different names such as neuromuscular taping, sports taping or medical taping. Medical taping has helped countless athletes, professional and amateur alike, maintain physical excellence even when subject to extremely harsh training regimes and intensive sports events. It is increasingly common during sporting events to see participants using these colorful sports tapes applied to joints and muscles. This increased visibility is resulting in the broader adoption of such taping methods amongst people who exercise regularly and who may feel the need on occasion for extra support.
Acti-Tape is a high-quality therapeutic sports tape from Nutriworks that is manufactured in accordance to strict quality (GMP & ISO) and hygiene standards. Acti-Tape is a highly elastic, non-latex body surgical tape made of thin porous cotton fabric with an adhesive. Lines of adhesive are applied in a special wave-like pattern with areas between these waves that are adhesive-free. This alternating pattern allows for greater air permeability and the tape is very comfortable to wear. It provides a new option in muscle rehabilitation and pain relief for everyone. All this along with the added option of making a very fashionable and colorful athletic statement!

Concurrent application whilst undergoing physical therapy may optimize the effect of such therapy. It may be applied to assist with relief of lower back strain/pain, subluxation, disc herniation, knee conditions, tight hamstrings, groin injuries, rotator cuff injuries, whiplash, tennis elbow, patella tracking disorder, pre- and post-surgical edema, ankle sprains, etc. Such broad application makes Acti-Tape your best partner for your active lifestyle.
Tips for application of Acti-Tape / Points to note when applying Acti-Tape
- Stretch of Acti-Tape
When applying Acti-Tape, the working part (middle part of the tape) can be stretched to the maximum if required. Leave about 2cm of tape at each end un-stretched. This avoids shearing tension to the skin at the ends and consequent redness or soreness caused by that force on the skin when the tape is used for extended periods of time.
- Round-off the Corners before Applying Acti-Tape
Before applying Acti-Tape, use scissors to round-off the corners at each end of the tape. This makes it less easy for the tape to be accidentally peeled away or where a corner is 'rubbed' off.
- Technique of Applying the Tape on the Skin
The glue used on Acti-Tape is activated by body heat. The position of the tape may be adjusted initially but once in place as required, apply pressure by rubbing on the surface of the tape (avoiding lifting any corners) to ensure proper adhesion It is not recommended to re-apply/re-position the tape after this as it will not stay on firmly.
- Application for Supporting Joints & Muscles
For easy understanding, when Acti-Tape is used with stretch (up to maximum stretch), this application provides compression. Compression is used where stability and support of joints or muscles are required.
- Applications for Swelling & Pain Management
On the other hand, Acti-Tape can be applied with no stretch. Instead the joint (ie: bending of wrist) or body part is first flexed and the tape applied without stretch. This technique creates 'lift' to the skin surface and reduces pressure on the nerves and also creates better circulation. It is particularly good for swelling and pain management.
- Different Cutting Techniques
Aside from taping technique, Acti-Tape is great when prepared properly using different cutting techniques. Different cutting techniques will make the application of the tape more effective.
- Taping Effect
When properly taped, users will feel at least some difference very quickly especially in cases involving pain and stiffness. It normally takes 24 hours to experience a more obvious result.
- Different Applications & Techniques for Different Conditions & Problems
Acti-Tape can be applied for conditions / problems in joints and muscles as well as in situations issues are internal (ie: hayfever, menstrual pain).
- Self-Application Technique
Acti-Tape is easy to use. Users can learn self-application techniques for certain areas such as the feet, knees, legs, arms or shoulders. For application on other areas like the neck, back, back of knee, back of thigh etc, assistance of another person will be required (assisted application).
Learning how to apply Acti-Tape is not difficult. Using it properly can help with managing conditions efficiently and effectively. For long term, persistent, recurring symptoms or in the event of any uncertainty, seek proper medical advice before use. Stop use immediately in event of any allergic reaction or if excessive redness occurs.

History of Acti-Tape
The idea for the elastic therapeutic sport tape (Kinesiology Tape) was developed by a Japanese Chiropractor who trained in the United States. The concept was conceived in the early 1970's and over time this concept has been developed into a specialized tape that aids the body in healing itself.
The basic premise is that movement and maintaining activity in muscles is necessary for recovery. Various versions of tapes were developed to support muscles without restricting movement or range of motion. It was also assumed that muscles affected blood circulation. Tape that is applied on stretched skin has been found to be very useful in reducing localized swelling associated with surgery, orthopedic or sports injuries, and acute trauma. It has also been found to be beneficial in the treatment of lymph edema. The combination of technique and tape can create unique effects on different body systems by supporting the elastic qualities of body tissues such as the skin and muscles. It has been used effectively in Asia for over 20 years and was introduced in the USA in 1995.
The use of elastic therapeutic sports tape (also sometimes known as kinesiology tape). has already helped countless athletes maintain physical excellence even when subject to extremely harsh training regimes and intensive sports events.
