Are You and Your Baby Struggling with Colic?
If so, Born Free is here to help. Colic is a condition that often confuses and concerns parents. In an effort to help educate and support parents of colicky babies, Born Free declared March as Colic Awareness Month back in 2012. They continue to expand upon this forum to provide caregivers with as much support and advice as possible on ways to help reduce colic symptoms. First and foremost, our Born Free Feeding System is proven to reduce gas and colic symptoms. The innovative ActiveFlow venting system mimics breastfeeding, reduces ingestion of air, and helps make Born Free the most natural way to support breast and bottle feeding.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 20% of babies experience colic. In a recent Born Free survey, they asked 100 moms to describe how their baby’s colic (which averaged 4.7 weeks) made them feel. The results were heartbreaking:
Nearly 75% of the moms said that they felt as if they were failing as a parent when they were not able to make their baby feel better.
More than 33% of the moms said that having a baby with colic greatly contributed to their post-partum depression.
More than 33% of the moms said that having a baby with colic made them doubt whether they wanted another baby.
Nearly 20% of the moms said that having a baby with colic nearly led to a divorce.
The consensus was that parents with colicky babies felt overwhelmed and stressed. Adding to that stress, there is so much unreliable information available that it was hard for them to know what to do to safely soothe their baby. Most moms in the survey reported trying at least seven different ways to soothe their colicky infant, but with limited success.
In the same study, those 100 moms switched from their current bottle system to Born Free for one week. Their experiences were pretty interesting:
100% of the moms reported that Born Free helped ease their baby's colic symptoms.
100% of the moms said they would continue to use Born Free to feed their baby even after the study was over.
More than 90% of participating moms rated Born Free as “excellent” or “good” for helping reduce some of baby’s colic symptoms.
In fact, moms reported that Born Free rated significantly stronger for helping with all colic symptoms compared to their current bottle system. And they gave high marks to Born Free for functional bottle attributes, including ease of use, overall bottle quality, ease of holding bottle, ease of assembly, and ease of cleaning.
In an effort to help not only parents of colicky babies, but all new parents, Born Free created the Pledge. They are encouraging everyone to take the pledge and help out a new parent, especially those parents of colicky babies! Whether you bring them a coffee, make them a meal, or take the older sibling for a playdate - whatever you do will mean the world to a new parent.
While no one can cure colic, there are some things you can do to help manage it. In addition to the five S’s (swaddling, side/stomach holding, shushing, swinging, and sucking), there are some new, innovative products that can help you soothe your baby. One of these is the Born Free Feeding System with its ActiveFlow Venting Technology.
What else can you try? There are a number of natural ways you can care for and soothe your colicky baby. And while taking care of baby, remember that it’s just as important to care for and soothe yourself.
