If you have gray hairs which are resistant to color, try shampooing and use treatment on the hair before coloring. First, apply Tints of Nature Shampoo, rinse, apply Tints of Nature Reconstructing Treatment, comb, and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse, towel dry, then apply color as usual. The shampoo and treatment will help soften the hair and open the outer layer of the hair (the cuticle). Do not use conditioner before coloring.
Another tip for coloring resistant gray hair is to cover the hair with a plastic bag and apply gentle heat all over the color for approximately the first ten minutes of the development time. Please be sure the hairdryer is set on low-medium heat only. Then allow the color to develop without heat for the remainder of the development time.
Counteracting Red Tones In Hair
Ash shades are ideal to counteract red tones in hair. You can mix either Medium Ash Brown (4C), Dark Ash Blonde (6C), or Ash Blonde (8C), with the natural tones.
Protecting Hair Which Is Not Being Colored
If you are only coloring a section of your hair and are worried about getting the color on the rest of your hair, simply cover it with conditioner. This will prevent any color penetrating into the hair and will leave your hair soft and manageable.
To Remove Build-Up From Two-In-One Shampoos:
Shampoo the hair twice using a basic shampoo, and then, using a sponge, work vodka through the hair and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse and shampoo twice with Tints of Nature Shampoo.

Can I use Tints of Nature over another hair colorant?
Tints of Nature can be used over other hair colors, except metallic based products. If you have used a hair color that contains a metal, such as lead acetate, zinc, iron or copper, please wait at least one month before using Tints of Nature and shampoo your hair thoroughly during this time. This advice also applies to using Tints of Nature over a henna color, which can leave a waxy residue on the hair and make coloring difficult.
I have used hair color for years without any problems. Why do I need to carry out a sensitivity test before using Tints of Nature?
It is possible to become sensitive to ingredients used in hair color over time. Also, some medication may have an affect, as well as permanent make-up or tattoos. If your scalp is irritated or damaged, this might also cause a potential reaction. Tints of Nature always recommends that a sensitivity test is carried out at least 48 hours before use, every time you use Tints of Nature. Full details are included in the instruction leaflet in each box.
Why should I carry out a strand test, when the color result is shown on the box?
The color result shown on the box is an indication only of the actual result you will get with your Tints of Nature color. There are many variables which can affect the final result; for example: condition of the hair, percentage of gray in the hair, previous colorant on the hair, medication, etc. They advise that a strand test is carried out at the same time as the sensitivity test, to make sure that you are happy with the color. Full details are included in the instruction leaflet in each box.
Are Tints of Nature products suitable for vegans and vegetarians?
All the colors are suitable for use by vegans and vegetarians, along with Tints of Nature Shampoo, Conditioner, Reconstructing Treatment and Seal & Shine. Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Scalp Treatment both contain a milk derivative, which may be something that vegans choose not to use.

Any unused color which has been mixed with Colourfix should be disposed of. However, any unmixed color can be saved in the bottle and should last several months, so can be used for another application. The color result is too dark. What can I do?
Tints of Nature always recommends a strand test before the hair is colored, which will indicate the actual color result on your hair. If the hair is too dark after coloring, you can use a saline solution, which will fade the color over the course of a couple of weeks.
Saline solution instructions: Shampoo hair and rinse. Mix 1L of warm water with 2 tablespoons of salt to make the saline solution. Dip a sponge in the solution and run through the hair. Repeat until all the solution has been used - leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse, shampoo, rinse and then condition the hair. Rinse. These simple steps should release the pigment, but fading may not appear immediately. It can take a few days for the process to become evident. This process can be repeated once a week for three weeks.

Do Tints of Nature colors contain PPDs?
Tints of Nature permanent hair colors use the most natural ingredients possible to create a highly effective product. Any synthetic raw materials are used only when there is no natural alternative. While the colors do contain PPDs (paraphenylenediamines), they use the lowest amounts possible to be able to cover gray hair. On average, PPDs comprise 0.42% of the product.
There are a number of companies claiming their brands are 'PPD-free,' safe to use and non-irritating. However, if you have a permanent, oxidative (uses peroxide) hair color, then it either uses PPD or PTD (2,5-Tolunediamine Sulphate). The problem is that the reactions to PPD are exactly the same as PTD; the toxicity is exactly the same, and the warnings are exactly the same. However, the real issue is that to create the same color with PTD, you need at least 1 1/2 times the concentration of PTD than of PPD. As an ethical manufacturer, it is of great concern that the members of the public are being misled into thinking somehow these "alternatives" are safer, and give the impression that skin allergy tests are not required. Whether the color says PPD-free or not, a patch test MUST be carried out.
