Frequently Asked Questions
Do they have an Emergen-C product for children?
Yes, they have Emergen-C Kidz which comes in three great-tasting, kid- tested flavors: Grape, Fruit Punch, and Orange. These are just like our regular Emergen-C formula except with vitamin levels more appropriate for children ages 4-13.
What is the best way to mix up a packet of Emergen-C fizzy wonderfulness?
They like theirs not too fizzy and not too flat. They put the powder in a glass, add four to six ounces of water, let it fizz up, let it fizz down, and then drink it up. Some folks like to put the powder in a glass, add water, stir once or twice, and then drink it down. They have found that people who have tender stomachs might be a bit uncomfortable with the fizzing going on in their stomach. Sensitive stomachs seem to like it better when the fizz in the glass has gone away. The Emergen-C will still taste great and still has a delightful, effervescent, tasty personality.
How soon does Emergen-C vitamin drink mix need to be consumed after it is made?
They recommend consuming Emergen-C within about ten minutes of mixing it up. It's just fine if you wish to mix up a packet ahead of time...and keep it cool. You could even use a bit less water and add an ice cube or two to keep it cold. Try to drink it up the same day you mix it up.
Can I drink Emergen-C vitamin drink mix hot?
Yes, you can drink Emergen-C hot. Just remember that the hotter the water, the “fizzier” the reaction will be when you pour in the powder. So take care, because while with Emergen-C you can FEEL THE GOOD, they don’t want you feeling the good while mixing (if you get their drift).
Will Emergen-C retain its nutrients if it is mixed with juices, teas, or other liquids instead of water?
Why did they change their packaging?
They wanted to make Emergen-C easier to find on the shelf; easier to choose the flavor that is right for you; and easier to differentiate their specialty products, like multi-vitamins and Joint Health*, from Original Emergen-C. Their fun, bright colors help do all of this. At the same time, they moved the Supplement Facts and Directions to a larger section for easier reading, and they added age recommendations. They love the new delicious-looking packaging and hope you do too.
Were their fizzy drink mix products changed when they changed their packaging?
Just a pinch. The amount of vitamins remained the same, but they increased the natural fruit flavorings and tweaked the blend of sweeteners on Raspberry and Tangerine for an even better taste!
Is Emergen-C available in recyclable or bulk packaging?
Their Emergen-C vitamin drink mix is moisture-sensitive and effervescent, so individual airtight packages are necessary to keep the powder dry inside. Consequently, they are not able to offer bulk packaging. All Emergen-C boxes are recyclable, however.
What efforts are they making to help our environment?
They reduced the size of their new boxes by 6% which results in less manufacturing, less shipping, and less paper waste. They are also printed using bio-renewable, solvent-free, vegetable-based inks to help keep chemicals out of the environment, and they are 100% recyclable. To top it all off, their new smaller boxes are FSC certified.
Are their products made in the U.S.A.?
Yes. All of their Emergen-C products are either manufactured in their Foothill Ranch, CA or Carlisle, PA facilities.
What do they do to assure the quality and safety of their ingredients?
They test 100% of their incoming raw materials to confirm that they received is what they ordered. They use very sophisticated laboratory equipment which takes a near infrared fingerprint of all incoming raw materials, and it compares that fingerprint to their approved raw materials library. If it does not match, the ingredient is rejected.
What is the source of the Bermuda Triangle’s awesome power?
The energizing B vitamins in Emergen-C, of course!
Can I take Emergen-C while pregnant or nursing?
As with all supplements, they recommend that you consult your health professional before use.
Can I take Emergen-C with my medications?
Ditto. Please consult with your health professional before taking Emergen-C with medications.
Do their products contain gluten?
All Emergen-C products are free of gluten from wheat, oats, rye, and barley.
Is the fructose in Emergen-C from high fructose corn syrup?
No, they use purified fructose.
Do their products contain MSG?
No, neither Alacer nor their suppliers add or use MSG in any product they use. Alacer uses natural fruit flavors and fruit juice powders that are of such high quality they do not require the use of MSG to enhance their flavor.
Are their products free of GMO?
Genetic ID NA, a state-of-the-art genetic research lab recommended by the Non-GMO Project Organization, has completed a series of genetic tests on their corn-based ingredients, as well as various other raw materials used in Emergen-C vitamin drink mixes. As expected, the laboratory tests revealed that no genetically modified corn DNA could be detected in any of the raw material samples they provided. Be assured that Alacer strives to obtain the highest quality raw materials for all of their products.
Is aspartic acid the same as aspartame?
No, aspartame is a chemically formed sugar substitute that bonds L- phenylalanine to aspartic acid. On the other hand, the aspartic acid which they use in Emergen-C, is an amino acid readily found in foods such as fish, legumes, dairy, whole grains, eggs, meats, nuts, and seeds. They use this pure L-Aspartic Acid which has the same structure as that found in foods.
Do they use artificial dyes to color Emergen-C?
No, they use natural ingredients to color Emergen-C, such as vegetable juice color, natural beet color, etc.
Which of their products contain animal derivatives?
Joint Health contains chondroitin, which is bovine-derived. Joint Health is shell-fish free. Pink Lemonade and Immune Defense contain honey. Vitamin D & Calcium, all Multi-vitamin products (Cherry-Pomegranate and Apricot-Mango), and their Immune+ System Support* with vitamin D products (Citrus and Blueberry-Acai) contain vitamin D3, which is derived from lanolin, which is from wool.
Alacer Corp. was founded in 1972 with a focus on vitamin C, complemented by minerals and B vitamins. This vitamin C focus led the company to collaborate in its early days with global vitamin C experts, including extensive consultation with Nobel laureate and vitamin C advocate Linus Pauling.
At its inception, the organization was a pioneer in creating products for distribution in the evolving health and natural products retail market. Alacer’s products were among the first supplements that many natural products distributors and retailers carried and supported. In 1978, Alacer introduced the Emergen-C effervescent powdered drink mix as the “champagne of nutritional drinks.” The good tasting, fizzy drink mix featured 1,000 mg of vitamin C, B vitamins and electrolytes, which became Alacer’s signature formulation. The novel delivery system for vitamins and nutrients soon had a loyal following who found Emergen-C to be the fast, fun way to support their health and energy.
More recently, Alacer has grown the Emergen-C brand by branching out from its natural retailer roots with expansion to drugstores, supermarkets, mass merchandisers, and club stores. Today Alacer sells more than 10 flavors of the original Emergen-C formulation, three flavors of Emergen-C Kidz, and specialty formulas that include Emergen-C Immune+ System Support with Vitamin D, Joint Health, Heart Health, Vitamin D & Calcium, and Emergen-C Multi-Vitamins.
Alacer is committed to giving back to the community, reflecting values the company shares with its loyal Emergen-C users. This effort began with Alacer's support of nutrition research at the World Committee for Health and extends today to The Emergen-C Fund. Since 1997, The Emergen-C Fund has raised more than $650,000 to worthy causes by donating a portion of product sales from select flavors. The Fund products include: Emergen-C Pink to benefit breast cancer awareness, research, and prevention efforts; Emergen-C Blue in support of the Surfrider Foundation; Emergen-C Planet to help fuel the Whole Planet Foundation; and Emergen-C Kidz to contribute to Vitamin Angels' efforts.
Additionally, Alacer was the first corporate sponsor of Operation Gratitude, a volunteer organization that sends care packages to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alacer has provided cash support and donated more than 1,000,000 packets of Emergen-C to our troops. Getting the word out about the Emergen-C brand and sharing its success with others has been good for business. Under the direction of Ron Fugate, Alacer's President and CEO, Emergen-C sales have more than doubled, growing to almost 500 million packets of vitamin drink mix sold per year. Alacer is now the leading manufacturer and marketer of branded vitamin C in the US. Based in Foothill Ranch, California, Alacer's mission is to build on its legacy of innovation by providing the world with nutritionally enhanced products that support an energetic, healthy lifestyle.
Alacer corp. Is the world leader in vitamin C technology, producing more vitamin C innovations than any other company. While others follow and try to catch up, Alacer continues to pioneer with a full line of vitamin C products that deliver fully reacted mineral ascorbates, day and night. Mineral ascorbates, the true vitamin C, are produced naturally in the livers of 99.9% of all animals, but not in humans. Vitamin C, in the form of mineral ascorbates, has countless advantages over pure ascorbic acid. Mineral ascorbates are neutral (non-acidic) and have no adverse side effects, unlike high levels of ascorbic acid which may cause heartburn, nausea, flatulence, diarrhea, and excess urination, inducing loss of minerals.
