True Natural Cosmetics All-Natural Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 goes on clear and is immediately effective with UVA/UVB Protection and anti-aging hydration. You know how important it is to protect your skin from the sun's damaging (and aging) UV rays. But you can do without the white effect most natural facial sunscreens lend to skin. And what about anti-aging creams? That is important, too. True Natural Cosmetics Intensive Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 is everything you are looking for all in one convenient product. Serious sun protection, goes on clear, and anti-aging ingredients too.
True Natural Cosmetics uses natural Zinc Oxide, the most effective sunscreen ingredient available, for the highest protection from both UVA/UVB rays. This Zinc is broad-spectrum, non-nano zinc for immediate protection without the white residue. True Natural Daily Moisturizer soaks into skin immediately - perfect for wearing under makeup. Along with serious sun protection, Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 is packed with anti-aging antioxidant ingredients to hydrate, firm and guard the skin from further damage. Cupuacu butter restores elasticity to skin and soothes irritation and inflammation. Aloe Vera provides a protective layer to skin, shielding it from harmful environmental factors. Cocoa butter is rich in Vitamin E to hydrate and boost collagen. Jojoba is the oil most closely matched to the skin's own sebum, and provides light, balancing moisture. It is perfect for normal and combination skin.
True Natural Cosmetics Daily Moisturizer SPF 20 is the first USDA 100% Certified Biobased SPF 20 facial moisturizer on the market, 100% free from harmful chemical ingredients. True Natural Cosmetics products are biodegradable and never tested on animals.

How often should I reapply when swimming?
That's a great question. There's been a lot of confusion about the whole water resistance issue for sunscreen. FDA, the regulating body for sunscreens, allows manufacturers to label their sunscreens as water resistant, and very water resistant. Those are the only two allowed claims. Prior to this summer, many other manufactures would use the claim "Water proof" but the FDA has now cracked down on this and made it illegal for anyone to make this claim. In order to use the claim "Water Resistant", a company has to show that the SPF on the sunscreen is still effective after a person has been submerged in water for a period of 40 minutes. IE if you put on the SPF 40 sunscreen, then sit in the pool for 40 minutes, and then retest the effectiveness of the sunscreen — it must have an SPF of 40 or more. If it measures SPF 35 — then you either can label the sunscreen SPF 35, or not make the Water Resistance claim.
If a sunscreen has "Very Water Resistant" on the packaging, then that means that the sunscreen would keep its effectiveness even after submersion in water for 80 minutes. True Natural did not test either sunscreen for Very Water Resistant. They did test the SPF 20 on 3 subjects, but the results were so close to the cutoff (results between 19.5—20.5) that they decided to not complete the test and skipped the Water Resistance claim. The SPF 40 passed with flying colors (with a final SPF measuring 41.5).
So — does this mean that True Natural sunscreens need to be reapplied after 40 minutes? No — it just means that the sunscreen has been tested to keep the stated effectiveness after full submersion in water for 40 minutes. After that, the effectiveness may decline over time as one continues to stay submerged in water. Reapplication every 1—2 hours is still the recommended course of action.
Are your products gluten free?
At this time, all but the olive oil is gluten free. True Natural will look for a certified gluten free olive oil for the next production run but at this time, there is a small possibility that gluten exists.
How does your self-tanner work?
The self tanning lotion utilizes a well known blend of tanning actives that has been proven to work effectively over many years. How do they achieve their purposes? Naturally derived DHA & Erythrulose chemically react with the amino acids on your skin to create a non-toxic brownish pigment called melanoidins, the tan effect. This has been a known affect since the 20's and proven safe of decades of use.
How do the products claim to be sunscreens (zinc) as well as being bio-based?
True Natural sunscreens are bio-based because zinc oxide, the active ingredient, is a natural mineral that is in effect renewable. The USDA BioBased testing confirms this and ensures it is not petroleum based (non-renewable).
You say that your products are 100% Bio-based, does that mean there are no chemicals in them?
Bio-based does not mean no chemicals. It means that the ingredients are renewable. The Natural Products Association certification confirms that True Natural products are all naturally sourced and not synthetic.
What are the "active" ingredients in your products?
In the sunscreens, the active ingredient (as defined by the FDA) is Zinc Oxide. In the Self-Tanner, the active ingredients are DHA & Erythrulose.
Is the cream a sunscreen cream because of the properties of the cupuacu butter?
The FDA regulates what is considered a sunscreen ingredient — only Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide can be listed as Active sunscreen ingredients. A large number of other ingredients are known to boost spf values but cannot be listed as active ingredients — Green Tea, Buritic Acid and Cupuacu are among those. Hence, the cream is a sunscreen because it uses zinc oxide. The SPF# may be higher because it includes some boosters.
How do you preserve your products?
There are a variety of proprietary techniques we use for preservation. As far as ingredients are concerned, only naturally sourced preservatives are used. There are no chemicals or artificial additives and preservatives in TRUE products.
How is the packaging 100% cruelty-free?
Well, the product has never been tested on animals and that's really what the cruelty free applies to. True Natural certainly never tested the packaging on animals. The packaging is plastic so it's not derived from animal source.
You say you use organic ingredients — how are these ingredients extracted?
All organic ingredients are marked on the label with an *. These ingredients are accompanied by an USDA NOP certificate from each ingredient supplier. The NPA has audited each and every ingredient in our products for natural origin, for extraction process, and required that the NOP certificate be provided for all organic ingredients. The extraction processes for each organic ingredient varies.
What is the shelf life for your products?
The shelf life for TRUE Natural products is approximately two years.
What percentage of the packaging is made from recyclable / renewable materials? What are these materials?
Around 40% of the packaging is made from recycled milk containers. For safety/sanitary reasons the tubes must use a virgin inner and outer plastic — but to be as green as possible within regulations, they use a recycled inner layer made from milk containers. The cap needs to be virgin plastic due to regulations (being in direct contact with the product.) That being said, True Naturals is always looking for higher percentage recycled packaging.
Is the lemon and orange essential oils in TRUE Natural Cosmetic sunscreens photosensitizing?
IFRA recommends that products applied to areas of skin exposed to sunlight, excluding products which are rinsed off (body wash, soaps, etc.) should contain levels of cold-pressed lemon oil not exceeding 2%. Levels for orange oil should not exceed 0.5%.
At TRUE Natural they are currently using lemon and orange oils at levels of 0.4% in sunscreen formulations, well below the IFRA recommendations. And remember, even though their essential oil content is well below the safety limit, they use mineral sunscreen zinc oxide which forms a physical barrier on the skin. This barrier prevents UV rays from penetrating to skin’s lower layers. So, why use lemon and orange essential oils at all? TRUE Natural Cosmetics utilizes a unique essential oil blend, including lemon and orange oils, for their aromatherapeautic properties.
What do you mean by zero chemicals?
Yes, everything under the sun is made up of molecules which have a chemical name. For instance, zinc oxide, a natural mineral, has a chemical formula of ZnO. However, when they talk about chemicals in the natural product world, they mean man-made, synthetic compounds. Their slogan of "Zero Chemicals / Zero Harmful Ingredients" means that ALL ingredients are 100% naturally sourced, not created in a lab, or derived from petrochemicals. These ingredients are audited by the NPA, which verified the source and extraction methods that were used to obtain the ingredients. With regards to Glycerin, our organic glycerin is derived from palm, rape and sunflower seed oil. It contains no preservatives, antioxidants or solvents. 1,4-Dioxane is never used. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the industry name for fractionated coconut oil. This simply means a specific density of the coconut oil is extracted, similar to how cream is separated from milk to produce cheese.
