Felix - Wild Natural Lingonberries - 10 oz. (283 g)

Felix Wild Natural Lingonberries, distributed by Procordia, are a wild, natural treat from the Swedish Forests. Produced by low, evergreen shrubs throughout Scandinavia's forests, the tart red lingonberries are much smaller and juicier than their distant cousin, the cranberry. Bursting with natural preservatives and pectin, lingonberries were invaluable to earlier generations of Scandinavians, for they could be kept for months at room temperature simply by placing them in jars of water or by stirring the raw berries with a small amount of sugar to make rårörda lingon, an easy lingonberry jam with no cooking required. The berries contain plentiful organic acids, vitamin C, provitamin A (as beta carotene), B vitamins (B1, B2, B3), and the elements potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. In addition to these nutrients, they also contain phytochemicals that are thought to counteract urinary-tract infections, and the seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Today FELIX is one of Sweden's best known brands, self-evident to many Swedes dining table. Felix is known for everything from traditional gurkinläggningar to modern deep-frozen ready meals. The preferred pre-pickled preserves, which became increasingly embarrassing for AB P Hakanssons vinegar in Eslöv. Manager Donald Thompson, who was in charge at the plant, realized that something must be done. He made contact with Herbert Felix who worked at his family's cannery in Znaim in what was then Czechoslovakia. Herbert Felix had great knowledge of pickling of vegetables and 1939, he was responsible for building a new factory in Eslöv.

Herbert Felix worked quickly up an extensive business based around the new brand Felix. When WWII began was Herbert Felix an agreement with the Swedish government for the supply of applesauce, juice and jam. Naturally he went off to 1943, as a volunteer, participate in the war on the Allied side. Meanwhile, the factory was led mainly by his wife. She had a good guide of 47 closely written pages of instructions, that Herbert Felix had written before he left.

After the war began more and more women working outside the home. This created a pressure for products that could be cooked quickly and easily. Mashed potatoes made from powder became one of the great successes of Felix. Then, when the first plastic bottle of ketchup could be the Swedes' dining table, had really established the brand. From being focused solely on the pickled vegetables were now Felix over two hundred articles in the assortment. In 1964, Sugar Company of limited liability company and Felix Herbert Felix left his life's work. 1995 Procordia took over the business.

Felix now has a leading market position in several product areas. The combination of well established traditions and new innovations will secure this position in the future. Examples of current products under the brand name Felix is tomato ketchup, salad dressing, pickled cucumbers and beets, french fries, mashed potatoes, pie, meatballs, and frozen hash enportionsrätter.

I purchased this lingonberry spread thinking it was going to be like a jam. Wow, was I wrong! This spread is full of berries and loaded with flavor. My daughter uses it for everything. I can't keep a jar in the refrigerator for more than a week. I had to order three more jars! We love it, and the price is comparable to store bought jams.

Been buying this about a year. Always consistent, sweet with a little tartness with skin on berries. Great on toast, bagels or vanilla ice cream. Packed in glass . Ligonberries are good for you with lots of anti-oxidents.
