With its unique micronutrient delivery system, NIA-114 penetrates the skin, delivers Niacin to the skin cells and enables healing from within to promote healthier, more beautiful looking skin.
Just as its name suggests, NIA-114 is delivered from Niacin. Many are familiar with the oral form of Niacin, a water-soluble micronutrient found in a number of commonly eaten foods. As a nutritional supplements, Niacin aids in cholesterol reduction and energy metabolism. More recently, a topical form of it has emerged as a key factor in helping the skin protect and repair itself from sun damage and aging.
NIA-114 resembles Niacin but differs in several very important ways.
1. NIA-114 is the form of Niacin known as nicotinic acid.
Unlike nicotinamide, nicotinic acid stimulates the release of the hormone leptin, a natural repair hormone, that aids healing within the skin and aids in the reduction of hyperpigmentation. (figure 1)
2. NIA-114 contains what is known as a lipophilic tail.
The natural form of Niacin is hypophilic or "water loving" and therefore, cannot penetrate the lipophilic (fat-loving) skin barrier or stratum corneum. To be absorbed by the stratum corneum, the molecule must somehow be made lipophilic. StriVectin scientists have developed the molecule, NIA-114 - a nicotinic acid molecule with an attached lipophilic tail, which CAN penetrate the lipid-rich outer layers of skin and diffuse into the sublayers of the epidermis where cellular regeneration and keratinization occur. (figure 2)
NIA-114 can be absorbed into the skin unlike other forms of Niacin.
Delivery of active ingredients across the skin barrier is a major challenge for all cosmeceuticals. StriVectin's NIA-114 allows ingredients known to be beneficial to the skin to go beyond topical application and actually penetrate the epidermis. It does so in a slow, continuous release, allowing time for the molecule to bio-convert to its working form. This unique to the NIA-114 molecule and is what distinguishes the StriVectin-SD from other products containing Niacin.
The skin barrier is made up of pancake-like cells with fatty or lipid matrix between the cells. In order to penetrate the lipid-rich stratum corneum and achieve the ultimate goal of reaching the substrata of the epidermis, the NIA-114 molecule, with its lipophilic tail, crosses the skin barrier and slowly diffuses at an optimal rate into the sub-layers of the epidermis. As natural enzymes within the skin cleave the lipophilic tail, NIA-114 converts back into nicotinic acid. Nicotinic acid is then bioconverted into the active molecule, NAD, which enters the skin's cells and aids in various biochemical reactions. (figure 3)

DNA is your cell's genetic code, which determine what cells will become and do. When your cells suffer damage from the sun or other environmental factors, this DNA can become altered. 2. Enhances energy metabolism and skin cell turnover.

What is Sensitive Skin?
Sensitive skin can be thin or fine textured, and subject to sunburn, commonly dry, delicate and/or prone to allergic reactions, and easily irritated leaving skin red and blotchy.

Are there any potential skin reactions to StriVectin-SD?
There is always a potential at any time for a customer to react to an ingredient(s) contained in a product. In a small group of individuals, a warm flush caused by the NIA-114 technology can occur. Niacin causes small blood vessels in your skin to expand and increase blood flow, presenting as a warm, red, sometimes itchy feeling on the skin. Do not be concerned as this is a natural effect of Niacin that will dissipate with continued use. A ‘first blush’ generally lasts no more than 1-2 hours and dissipates as the molecule is used up by the cells. As you continue to use the products over 7-10 days, your skin cells adjust to the increase in Niacin and flushing no longer occurs.
Can I prevent a flush reaction?
Yes. Apply a test patch of one of the StriVectin-SD products to the jaw line or side of the neck and monitor the area for at least 30 minutes to test your skin’s tolerance.
What should I do if a flush occurs?
Immediately apply a cold compress to the face to reduce the blood flow and to calm and soothe the skin. Recommend an introductory regimen for beginning the products again – using only 1 product once per day, applying a very light application until skin adjusts.
For wrinkles: Apply all-over to cleansed skin, avoiding eye area in the AM and PM, gently massaging into wrinkle-prone areas.
For stretch marks: Use AM and PM on cleansed skin, massaging into targeted areas.
Apply a small patch test to the jaw line or neck. Follow their usage directions consistently twice a day to get the significant results you see in our timeline.

A key ingredient of StriVectin-SD, NIA-114 by its nature helps to boost cell turnover. You may feel warmth or see a blush upon first application, which should typically last no more than 1-2 hours. This means that StriVectin-SD&’s NIA-114 is helping to strengthen the skin barrier. If uncomfortable, apply a cold compress. If you experience this in the first several days of use, consider an alternative application routine: slowly add products every other day with a light application, gradually increasing use until the full regimen is incorporated over 10 days. To gauge your skin’s tolerance before use, apply a patch test of product to the jaw line or side of the neck and monitor the area for at least 30 minutes.
