I have heard of witch hazel, but what do you use it for?
Witch hazel has a number of uses for both skincare and personal care including:

  • Skin Care:
    • Removes excess oils and impurities normalizing your skin's moisture balance
    • Cleans and Tones the skin & refines and reduces the appearance of large pores
    • Will not overdry your skin
    • Removes the last traces of makeup
    • Helps to balance the normal pH of skin
  • Personal Care:
    • Soothes minor cuts and abrasions
    • Soothes minor irritation after shaving
    • Soothes skin from overexposure to sun
    • Helps to reduce inflammation

and because Humphreys Witch Hazel is all-natural, it is the most gentle formulation available!

How can Humphreys Witch Hazel be all-natural if it contains alcohol?
Unlike other astringent products that contain high levels of either synthetic alcohol or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), Humphreys products contain only natural alcohol derived from grain. This ingredient is used in limited quantities as a natural preservative.

Are any Humphryeys products tested on animals?
No, they do not test their products on animals. At Humphreys Pharmacal animal testing is against company philosophy. Humphreys produces the gentlest products from the finest botanical ingredients available.

Does Humphreys use any harsh preservatives such as parabens in their products?
No, they are sensitive about the ingredients used. All of their skincare products are EU compliant and are 100% vegetarian. They contain certified organic ingredients, no artificial colors, fragrances or harsh preservatives, such as parabens.

Some of Humphreys remedies contain cornstarch. Do they use non-GMO cornstarch?
Yes - Humphreys products are based on traditional, time-honored non-GMO ingredients to care for your body in the gentlest way possible. Today, they continue to produce their products in the same manner, harvesting their natural ingredients by hand and utilizing traditional processing techniques with a strict eye on quality. The result is a line of the finest natural products that contain ingredients trusted by families for more than 100 years.

What is the difference between Humphreys Witch Hazel and other facial astringents and/or toners?
Humphreys Witch Hazel is the only all-natural astringent cleanser for facial care. Humphreys combines natural extracts of the witch hazel plant in this refreshing formulation to gently cleanse and condition your skin without overdrying. This product does not contain harsh chemical additives that could be irritating to your skin. What makes Humphreys different is the reason that dermatologists recommend it for sensitive skin - the all-natural extracts in the cleansing astringent clean deep without disturbing your skin's natural moisture balance. Other astringent products can strip your skin of essential moisture, causing your skin to become dry, flaky and irritated - an indication of damage. When your skin reaches this point, it begins to overproduce oils to compensate for the dryness, clogging pores and prolonging the very situation you were trying to correct.

Humphreys Organic Botanicals Sensitive Skin Therapy - What is it?
Humphreys Organic Botanicals Sensitive Skin Therapy is specially formulated to be safe and effective for individuals with the most delicate complexions. By combining their own witch hazel with jasmine and other therapeutic ingredients, Humphreys Organic Botanicals Sensitive Skin Therapy products work to calm, soothe and nourish your skin - restoring its natural balance.

Should the Humphreys Organic Botanical products be used together or should I buy just one?
Humphreys products can be used individually or in combination - offering you the choice of products that are right for your own skin type. Humphreys products have been developed to meet the needs of all different skin needs and types.

I see that you have cleansing "milk" under the Organic Botanicals line. Does it contain any dairy?
No, all of Humphreys skincare products are 100% vegetarian and contain no dairy. The use of the word milk - describes the consistency of the product, which is that of a light, lotion-type cleanser.

Can I use your toner without using a moisturizer?
Yes. This unique product provides purity, balance and protection for the skin. It can be used in combination with Humphreys Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Milk or in preparation for any moisturizer or make up application.

The History of Humphreys
In 1853, Dr. Humphreys became one of the leading homeopathic physicians in New York. His achievements included being Chairman of the American Institute of Homeopathy’s “Bureau for the Augmentation and Improvement of the Materia Medica” of the American Institute of Homeopathy. During this time he also helped to establish what came to be known as The New York State Homeopathic Medical Society.

As one of his most pivotal and significant contributions to homeopathic medicine, Dr. Humphreys introduced his finding of homeopathic “combinations” and coined the term “Homeopathic Specifics.” The value of combination preparations was that they offered, in a single dose, what traditional homeopathic physicians would prescribe by the individual ingredient, or “singles.”

This approach made it easy for homeopaths to diagnose and self-prescribe without the need to worry about a host of traditional concerns, including content or potency selection. In 1854, The Humphreys Homeopathic Medicine Co. was established (later incorporated under the name “Humphreys Pharmacal”) and began to market his namesake products, Humphreys Homeopathic Specifics. These preparations, along with Dr. Humphreys’ belief in natural healing, continue to be the basis for both their homeopathic and skincare products.

This milky cleanser is best used when your face is dry - don't get it wet first. Massage it in - then add warm water. It's perfect for sensitive or dry complexions, and works really well in a Wisconsin climate where it's very cold and dry outside and extremely warm and dry inside due to forced heat. I have normal/oily/sensitive skin that's prone to breakouts and this has been perfect so far...smells like essential oils to boot!

Love this stuff. Wish there were fewer ingredients with long names, but it is very nice on the skin and has a lot of good stuff in there.

Great product!!!It leaves my skin refreshed, smells good, and moisturizes. I rated it a 4 only because it doesn't remove eye make up all that well and because it tends to just glob up and slip through my fingers when my hands are wet. It's not a huge flaw since its a soap free product but you do end up using a lot more of it because some is wasted. Overall, it's still better than anything else I've tried.

This non-sudsy cleanser cleanses skin surprisingly well and leaves no greasy residue whatsoever. It's creamy, yet light, making it feel as though you're applying a fluffy cream than a cleanser. I've used many expensive cleansing milk products that are not as effective as this cleanser. This is definately a keeper for someone that needs extra moisturization. I, however, finds this cleanser a little bit irritating to skin around the nose and mouth, despite of its claim to be "sensitive." Other than that, this cleanser is outstanding for any skin type including oily.

About Humphreys

More than a century ago, dr. Frederick humphreys took the lead in homeopathic circles, sharing his expertise with thousands of patients and prescribers. Dr. Humphreys brought forth his findings of homeopathic “combinations” and coined the term “homeopathic specifics.” His preparations offered in one dose what traditional homeopathic physicians would prescribe by the individual ingredient, making the formulas much more widely accessible.
